Finally! This is it, I knew it had to be out there somewhere: a contemporary prog band that sounds like it could be a previously undiscovered original prog band from the 70's. Not a tribute band, not a "neo"prog band, not prog inflected Metal or Metal inflected prog, but a genuine recent addition to the genre in it's original form.
Thanks a lot for introducing Fruitcake! I thought all the good prog bands lived in Sweden, but these songs appeal to me on the same level, from my own home country and all. Nice!
I really like how the vocals are done, pronunciation-wise. It sounds kinda strange, because they are not native English speakers, and that adds to the uniqueness of the sound,I think :D
I think what I love about prog is that each prog band isn't afraid to explore their own unique sound. Of course there are a couple black sheep (Cough, cough-RECENTDREAMTHEATER- cough, cough.) But for the most part prog is so unique that I could only listen to it for the rest of my life and still never get tired of it. :D
Yeah, that's true, but bear in mind one little thing: I love Dream Theater, above all their first albums ;)
I'm not tired of Prog Rock yet and have the impression that it'll live with me eternally. Haven't found a more complete music style according to what my feelings want to placidly devour.
Yeah, Dream Theater's early albums contain some of the best songs I've ever heard- especially their massive 25 minute long masterpieces- but to me their recent album; Black Clouds and Silver Linings, is just sacrificing Dream Theater's unique sound for a more common, mainstream metal kind of sound. My opinion, but Dream Theater is a prog band with a little bit of metal, not a metal band with a little bit of prog!
Love their organ sound. New bands forget about the good ol' Hammond for some reason. It can still sound so new and fresh! Awesome song from an aweseom prog band.
