The reason why he isnt major popular is he chooses to play a form of music that is dying...with all the pop and bubblegum crap and how all the new singers buy up all the airtime on radio stations its a closed market. Robert is at the top of the food chain as far as blues and r&b singers and guitar players....make no mistake in the certain circles he is right up there with BB King and all the greats and has toured and or played with all the greats!
No offense to the old greats like Clapton and Johnny Winter, but I definitely prefer hearing new material like this to hearing songs that were great forty to eighty years ago.
Why hasn't he had commercial success at least on the scale of Bonamassa ? His voice and writing skills are top notch, and he's great on guitar as well. I don't get the music biz, .. no I get it, but it sucks.
I saw the crossroads DVD ... this was one song that totally blew me away... and the dvd itself is allready filled with masterpieces.... I didn't knew robert cray before... but he sure is one artist who really touched me.. i'm glad to met him tis way
Words can't begin to describe how underrated Robert Cray is. He's got it all... great song writing, an amazing voice, and he's a hell of a guitar player. I honestly feel bad for those who dont know about Robert and his music.
@DenTwanne Same reaction I had. If I did not see the 2007 crossroads DVD I would not have known Robert Cray. This song is probably in the top 5 of that crossroads.
They are not showing his face a whole lot during his solo, he normally "talks" (moves his mouth) while he is in the middle of a solo. He played Time Makes Two at the last Crossroads Festival and at each solo he would step back from the microphone and it would look like he was talking out each note. This is a great song and Robert Cray is one of the best and most under appreciated bluesmen around. Great Song and Video!!!
Always loved this mans voice and his playing is so tasteful as is his band. Love the drummer and bass players style...they lay it down tight and right and very colorful but they dont get in the way. Pro musicians all~~~

this kind of reminds me of "Poor Tom" by Led Zeppelin. not just the title, but the lyrics too. it's about a worker who murders his cheating wife.
