Anyone thinking Haldex is inferior is misinformed. I've driven Mercedes, Audi, Porsche, Range Rover and "4x4" vehicles with diff locks -- all up the same snow-covered 16% grade to our ski cabin ... so far, Porsche is best for climbing on snow and high speed stability. At present we have the Mercedes GL and it's practically unstoppable with Nokian studded snow tires. Range Rover is good, but too heavy.
I am BMW fan but with this Audi was something wrong.....i don´t know if Q3 has torsen or haldex but in this case it doesn´t matter, 4x4 must overcome this
@MrTONYTONYM I apologize. I switched it in my head with Q3. I think I would. I own an older A4 Quattro and it has never let me down anywhere. Mainly I drive in mountains, heavy snow and ice. That's why I bought it. I don't know what is happening in the video then. Maybe just AUDI isn't making good cars anymore.

@MrLowAltitude maybe you're right, but I'll still go with the bimmer. I think it is the better SUV among the two. Also, X3 is perhaps cheaper on fuel and definitely cheaper on maintenance.

Btw: If you are looking for a good SUV, try a Volvo XC60 or XC90. My dad got a 2011 XC60 with the 225hp 5-cyl diesel. I love this car, it's a dream to drive and the quality seems to be pretty high too! Definitely comparable to german standards.

Then I got BMW 318i compact (143hp) - nice car, I had it for 5 years, unbreakable 15 years old car. Today, I drive Citroen C4 (2008) - what can I say - I'm trying to find a good reason to sell it and get a, say, bimmer or subaru, but I can't find that reason. Its pretty spacious inside(I'm 190cm tall), It runs good, not bad on gas, maintenance is cheap.
@vankata79 I like BMWs too but I prefer Audi. Seems like you had bad luck with your A4. I drive a very old Audi: An Audi 80 with 2.3 inline 5-cyl engine.19 years old now, 200tkm and not one spot of rust! It does well in snow and it starts immediately at -15°C. Maybe the older cars are more reliable in general, I don't know... but my next one will be an Audi too. Just because I like them :)

I've also heard such rumors about the french cars, but most people I know driving older peugeot or citroen are happy with them. Cheap to buy and maintain, average on gas, pretty good on diesel.

Die Lammellenkupplung ist ja elektronisch und rechnet die Position mehrmals in der Sekunde aus. Während audi ein Torsen-Differentialen (Mechanisch) benutzt. Das Torsen-Differentialen hat das Problem das hier der Widerstand auf der Hinterachse so gering ist das, das Differentialen nicht schliesst. Kann aber in Wirklichkeit nie passieren, da der Widerstand nich mal auf eis so gering ist wie auf diesen Rollen.
Den Antrieb nach Rechts-Links zu verteilen is aufwendiger und schwerer als Vorder-Hinterachse, das bei Audi mitdem Thorsendif geregelt wird.
Rechts-Links wird bei Audi nur durch abbremsen einzelner Räder geregelt,was nicht so effektiv ist.
Die Frau im Video gibt nicht viel Gas
Was eher komisch ist, ist das die Reifen des BMW kein Stück durchdrehen, die Lammellenkupplung kan ja nicht schon die richtige position haben bevor das Auto sich über haupt bewegt.
Bei Kabel 1 arbeiten doch nur Idioten! In dem Video ist die Hinterrad Achse auf den rollen, auf Kabel 1 ist immer nur die linke oder rechte Seite auf rollen! Und klar bei standgas oder oder sehr langsamer Geschwindigkeit geht nix aber auf dem Video gibt die Frau doch schon etwas mehr gas!
Außerdem könnte Audi, wen das Video Fake is, es sofort aus dem netz nehmen lassen und den Veranstalter bzw. BMW Verklagen!

Nichts gegen BMW aber jeder der klar denken kann sieht sofort das da was nicht stimmen kann. Der Quattroantrieb ist ja genau dafür da um die kraft auf die Räder zu verteilen, wenn eine Drehzahldifferenz zwischen vorn und hinten entsteht. Eigendlich eine Lächerliche Aktion von BMW um das eigene Produkt in den Vordergrund zu stellen. Hier wird die Unwissenheit der Käufer außgenutzt. this test is bullshit. bmw makes great cars but quattro is what audi is known for and, because of that, they put enough R+D into it to make it the best awd system. i personally have an a5 and had an a4, it is an unbelievable system
guys thus is just a clip to criticize quattro. They used a roller to make one side of the wheel's traction to become a zero to give a slip and made other wheel need a lot of torque like when the car is in the slope at the same time. In the case like this, awd couldn't get out of this situation like the video. But this situation couldn't be made on the real road because even icy roads have a traction. This video is just to criticize audi. 4matic, x drive never could beat quattro on the off road

Meist wird solch ein Video, von einem ins Netz gestellt, der eine Vorliebe für diese Marke entfindet. Geht am besten zu den Händlern, und testet die Autos selber! Schluss endlich, fährt man eh nicht ins Gelände mit so einem Auto. ;-P
Im am reading alot of posts here and I see how much people dont know about AWD and dont know how Audi system works compared to BMW. Do your research and then you will see why Audi failed there. Also how about Audi come out with a video with one of the newer Audi Q5 compared to the new 2012 X3? They wont because they know this is the truth.
that just shows you how important it is to get a awd system that can distribute 100% available torque to front or rear electronically. BMW awd is the best awd in the world. @rickyrod3421 What are you talking about?! Passing a test like this does not require a driveline to be able to sent 100% torque to one axle. You don't need that to pass an obsticle. Fact is that most off road vehicles do not have that option - You simply lock the center diff and youll pass anything. The Q5 has a torsen center diff which can build up hydralic pressure without wheelspin - That is what is important in an AWD system. I am ot an Audi fan at all, but this test is BS

Seemed Like a planned BMW test. Go take that same bmw to audi test track and then it would be the opposite all company's do this... personally both company's are great but this is something you will never really know until you personally do it.
I personally think this is biased BMW test. Quattro is better than that. To my eyes, it seemed a bit unreal that the the X3 simply drove over the rolling bars, the computer does need a moment to transfer power to the wheels with traction. And X3 seemed to have done this to fast. Maybe it is simply the best, but Quattro should not be this bad. I suspect that those rolling bars were locked, so the BMW had more tracking that the AUDI. I love both cars and both Quattro and Xdrive, but it seems fake.

i can only assune the x3 has some sort of diff locks while the audi relies on the brakes to slow down the spinning wheel and provide power to the other 3 ... it just needs a constant throttle and a small amount of time to work out whats going on ... may i just say though ... the audi has a much quieter engine ...

Die Lammellenkupplung ist ja elektronisch und rechnet die Position mehrmals in der Sekunde aus. Während audi ein Torsen-Differentialen (Mechanisch) benutzt. Das Torsen-Differentialen hat das Problem das hier der Widerstand auf der Hinterachse so gering ist das, das Differentialen nicht schliesst. Kann aber in Wirklichkeit nie passieren, da der Widerstand nich mal auf eis so gering ist wie auf diesen Rollen.
Mal Galileo fragen vill machen die des besser?!

Den Antrieb nach Rechts-Links zu verteilen is aufwendiger und schwerer als Vorder-Hinterachse, das bei Audi mitdem Thorsendif geregelt wird.
Rechts-Links wird bei Audi nur durch abbremsen einzelner Räder geregelt,was nicht so effektiv ist.
Die Frau im Video gibt nicht viel Gas
Was eher komisch ist, ist das die Reifen des BMW kein Stück durchdrehen, die Lammellenkupplung kan ja nicht schon die richtige position haben bevor das Auto sich über haupt bewegt.

Bei Kabel 1 arbeiten doch nur Idioten! In dem Video ist die Hinterrad Achse auf den rollen, auf Kabel 1 ist immer nur die linke oder rechte Seite auf rollen! Und klar bei standgas oder oder sehr langsamer Geschwindigkeit geht nix aber auf dem Video gibt die Frau doch schon etwas mehr gas!
Außerdem könnte Audi, wen das Video Fake is, es sofort aus dem netz nehmen lassen und den Veranstalter bzw. BMW Verklagen!

Nichts gegen BMW aber jeder der klar denken kann sieht sofort das da was nicht stimmen kann. Der Quattroantrieb ist ja genau dafür da um die kraft auf die Räder zu verteilen, wenn eine Drehzahldifferenz zwischen vorn und hinten entsteht. Eigendlich eine Lächerliche Aktion von BMW um das eigene Produkt in den Vordergrund zu stellen. Hier wird die Unwissenheit der Käufer außgenutzt. Und nur mal so, es ist egal ob Diesel, Benzin oder Gas der Antrieb machts.

guys thus is just a clip to criticize quattro. They used a roller to make one side of the wheel's traction to become a zero to give a slip and made other wheel need a lot of torque like when the car is in the slope at the same time. In the case like this, awd couldn't get out of this situation like the video. But this situation couldn't be made on the real road because even icy roads have a traction. This video is just to criticize audi. 4matic, x drive never could beat quattro on the off road

Teilweise wird hier ja so kommentiert, als ob BMW und AUDI diese Videos selbst erstellt hätten. Da filmt eben mal ein Zuschauer mit.
Es sind beide ausgezeichnete Allrad Hersteller. Am Schlimmsten ist es, sich eine Meinung aufgrund eines YouTube Videos zu bilden. Meist wird solch ein Video, von einem ins Netz gestellt, der eine Vorliebe für diese Marke entfindet. Geht am besten zu den Händlern, und testet die Autos selber! Schluss endlich, fährt man eh nicht ins Gelände mit so einem Auto. ;-P

that just shows you how important it is to get a awd system that can distribute 100% available torque to front or rear electronically. BMW awd is the best awd in the world. Quattro is mechancal and is reactive instead of proactive like BMWs. Audi cannot distrubutive 100% availalable torque to rear that is why it happened. LOL Audi and VW are good cars just not a BMW. BMW is the #1 selling luxury brand for 2011. Audi not even close.

@rickyrod3421 What are you talking about?! Passing a test like this does not require a driveline to be able to sent 100% torque to one axle. You don't need that to pass an obsticle. Fact is that most off road vehicles do not have that option - You simply lock the center diff and youll pass anything. The Q5 has a torsen center diff which can build up hydralic pressure without wheelspin - That is what is important in an AWD system. I am ot an Audi fan at all, but this test is BS

Seemed Like a planned BMW test. Go take that same bmw to audi test track and then it would be the opposite all company's do this... personally both company's are great but this is something you will never really know until you personally do it.

I personally think this is biased BMW test. Quattro is better than that. To my eyes, it seemed a bit unreal that the the X3 simply drove over the rolling bars, the computer does need a moment to transfer power to the wheels with traction. And X3 seemed to have done this to fast. Maybe it is simply the best, but Quattro should not be this bad. I suspect that those rolling bars were locked, so the BMW had more tracking that the AUDI. I love both cars and both Quattro and Xdrive, but it seems fake.

i can only assune the x3 has some sort of diff locks while the audi relies on the brakes to slow down the spinning wheel and provide power to the other 3 ... it just needs a constant throttle and a small amount of time to work out whats going on ... may i just say though ... the audi has a much quieter engine ...
