  • WTF this video is full of lies!!!!!!

do you want to see how a universal healthcare system works? stop watching corporation tv and come directly to see from yourself!

  • The nhs saved my life, on more than one occasion, ill always stand by them

  • Socialized healthcare sucks. I'm glad that I live in America and we don't have cheap quality healthcare here.

  • @themenaceanish thats probably why the American healthcare system is ranked 37th of the world and there are 21 socialist healthcare system in European country's that are ranked better then that of America :)

  • @themenaceanish

"Socialized healthcare sucks. I'm glad that I live in America and we don't have cheap quality healthcare here."

HAVE YOU EVER TRIED IT? no the television told u that!

then what about the fireman, they are a socialized system too.

do you want to privatize the fireman too?

how many american people die every year in USA for not being able to see a doctor?

    p.s.

how STATISTICS shows, our "cheap" system is FAR BETTER than yours.

  • @MaximilianHorizon are you fricking insane, the whole world has and would take anyday, universal free healthcare over your 'let them die' profit healthcare you have in america. all canadians, europeans, asians etc will never have to worry about healthcare costs heck it's a non issue. not even talked about here

  • @jopeon1983 fuck the usa.

Rolls Royce jet engines = The sound of america's end

  • i love how the woman who had the treatment is saying how good it is, then the american who has not had any treatment is adding in little comments about extreme cases to try and stop americans from realising how good a NHS is.

  • The crazy thing is the US are paying far more tax dollars than us but getting NOWHERE near the level of service! Can you imagine if we paid 16% GDP and got from the state what the Yanks get? There'd be riots! What are they spending 16% GDP on coz it ain't universal healthcare for ALL citizens for ALL health issues no matter how big or small or what procedures need to be done?

  • I live in the UK last year when I had a night where I was going to die on that night unless I was treated i didn't have to fill any forms or do anything I was take to the hospital given the right drugs and i am alive to tell the tale I am eternally grateful to the NHS for saving my life i am one story 61,000,000 other Brits owe their life to the NHS. america should stop trying to save money and start trying to save lives

  • I love my NHS. It's saved my life. I'd have been bankrupted and dead 5 years ago if I'd been a US citizen living in the USA. Running a health care system purely for profit is barbaric. The USA is not a modern society, it's a fucking jungle where only the super-rich have any real chance of surviving. You pay the highest healthcare costs on the planet yet your healthcare ranks 37th on the World Health Organization league table. That's disgraceful. American Dream? American Nightmare more like.

  • my uncle had cancer and he was seen right away, we don't wait months in the UK if it is a serious condition.

  • Many Hospital do have single rooms, my Wife-Partner had a lovely room with large shower cubicle when she had our Daughter Rosie, it was a brand new Whiston Hospital recently finished at a cost of £250 Million, has Won 2 Awards for excellence, they also saved our Daughter from a potentially Deadly Infection, involved 2 Weeks in Hospital Cost? NIL! SO WE HAVE NO COMPLAINTS!

  • @wind4watts My granddad had a single room for a week he said he hated it just staring at the ceiling and not speaking to others bored the life out of him.

  • @wind4watts

My Sister is a Sister (Nurse) at Whiston Hospital. We live in Prescot. What a small world!

Whiston Hospital is brand spanking new and is the mutts nutts, it even has a Costa coffee!

  • Healthcare in the USA costs 16% of GDP, in most other western countries it ranges between 8-12%. America has the lowest life expectancy in the western world. In the US 36% of every dollar spent on healthcare is spent on admin, advertising and profit, in the UK only 10% goes to non-healthcare related activities such as admin. Is the private sector really the most efficient when it comes to treating the sick?

  • What about the baby boomers who will be retired in the US they will all of course be able to afford top quality insurance? I think not. The NHS will be around a lot longer than the present unattainable corrupt, bureaucratic, selective and ridiculously expensive US barbaric system. LibertyDownUnder you have been wrong so many times about the NHS you are not only obviously a lying bastard but are a stupid one to.but being a buffoon Libertarian that goes with the territory.

  • K forget this video, cant view it without seeing ads, I goto another site.

  • 10,000 prostate cancer patients die a year in the UK, versus almost none in the US.

Both systems have some very serious problems, but introducing a Socialised system in the US will make things much worse.

I pity anyone who is replying on the NHS in the near future.

  • @LibertyDownUnder . Please see “the U.S. Healthcare system in international Context:” NATIONAL DISGRACE: US Health Care System Kills and Bankrupts and “Tom Daschle: US Healthcare Best In World a 'Myth" I pity anyone who cannot afford to pay for the corrupt. bureaucratic, overly expensive US system.

  • @davijeph, US costs & other problems are explained here: /watch?v=-v66o_X8F4I

  • @LibertyDownUnder Explain your lying statement there are virtually no prostrate cancer deaths in the US

  • @davijeph, i had it bookmarked but cannot find it anywhere now...

Will PM you what I did find.

  • @LibertyDownUnder The question was about you saying that their were almost no deaths in the US caused by prostate cancer which is a blatant lie. I except there are up to 10,000 prostrate deaths in the UK. Now have the guts to admit you are a lying bastard.

  • @davijeph, easy on the insults please.

I looked and looked and cannot find the article... If I find it I'll send it through.

I think I got mixed up with the survival rates, so yes, I think you are right and I was wrong.

  • @LibertyDownUnder do you pity the woman in the video?

  • @scottishlad1987, not right now but in a few years she (and everyone else in the UK) will have no NHS to turn to.

If you do the maths, count the baby boomers who are retiring now and are expecting free healthcare for another 20 years - it doesn't add up.

It's nothing to do with justice, they simply won't get what they've been promised.

  • @LibertyDownUnder Estimated new cases and deaths from prostate cancer in the United States in 2010: New cases: 217,730 Deaths: 32,050

  • @LibertyDownUnder i can safely say that less then 200 people die in the uk or europe each year from prostate cancer and the dying part comes from getting yourself to a hospital not the nhs, get your fucking facks right before u hate on universal free health care

  • All one has to do is google:

    Uninsured Americans

Hugh costs of drugs in the USA

Look at the way the USA handled the H1N1 crisis compared to the UK.

Look how many uninsured American patients do not have access to any cancer drugs at all and those that have treatment but have to spend $60,000 dollars to do so.

The UK system is amazing and it will only get better. Of course we moan about it - it's a public service and everyone moans about public services.

  • @chrisjamesshepherd US health care is a LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH.

Even Private Insurance IS NOT ENOUGH.

You need the RIGHT KIND OF INSURANCE, even CASH ON TOP.

    PPO vs HMO

You can die, in pain, because no one will approve your Chemo or pain killer.

It's retarded and costs TWICE what everyone else pays

  • "some patients in Britain can wait several months, even years for some surgeries" - this sounds to me suspiciously like scaremongering. Some patients. Some surgeries. The most vital surgeries happen fast and are available for everyone, whether ther're homeless or live in a mansion.

  • Which is why it's the American system that is not working and in need of serious reform while all those countries with UHC are sticking with their various systems

  • Doctor shortages.

    NHS is going broke too.

    There is no free lunch.

When people think somethings free then they overuse it. Inevitable budget deficits.

  • @Thetruthishere11 True. Very true. The point is the British system worked in 1948. It's falling apart now and should not be used as a model. There has to be a better way and I don't understand why the US can't find one that doesn't involve paying a private insurance company who may or may not let you have the care. We learn from history and mistakes. Learn from the NHS and come up with something that we can adopt too.

  • Rationing.

    Treated like a number. Cattle.

  • Took me 3 months to get my scoliosis surgery done. Im in America.

  • Listening to US media reports on the NHS makes me want to groan.

  • On every NHS video, you see "kim8040" talking about how terrible the NHS is, how it leaves "people on the street to die" and how it costs "Half of what you earn"

All of his "facts" couldn't be further from the truth if he tried, even when British people correct him about the NHS, he just replies calling them "Commie morons"

Kind of strange to see an American calling the NHS terrible, even when millions of British people love it, mostly because it saves our lives countless times.

  • @theunderone1

So I guess all the papers are wrong ?

    Google

    NHS rations operations

    NHS Budget shortfalls

    NHS Rations cancer drugs

    NHS Millions with out dentists

    On and on

YOu hardly Count as millions - I think it is a few morons from the UK Pushing EU BS

  • @kim8040 Hi shitforbrains I was beginning to think you had disappeared up your own plumbing. Your wonderful system treats everybody's sickness with in 4 hours cures everybody within two days and for a little extra on you insurance policy will raise you from the dead. WE keep telling you we know their can be problems with the NHS but compared to your crap system we will stick to the NHS at lease it's a lot cheaper.

  • @davijeph Like the old saying goes - YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR -

What i Find Funny - Rich people - KINGS - Queens - Leaders of Canada - ETC come to America for the Best care -

While NHS rations Care lets millions die -

  • @kim8040 So how come Canucks and Brits live longer than Yanks?

  • @davijeph How many people do you have ?

Better check out the Car Accidents death in America VRS those two states -

  • @davijeph Better also check out the Obesity Problem America has

  • @davijeph Smoking - Obesity - America # 1 and 2nd cost to out health and Health care cost - GOV can not control / Dictate Personal Choices - Although the far left around the world wants to set up Dictatorships -

  • @davijeph Prostate cancer mortality is 604 percent higher in the U.K. and 457 percent high in Canada ... 2: Americans have lower cancer mortality rates than Canadians and Brits

Most Cancer Survival Rates in USA Better Than Europe and Canada ...

  • @kim8040 Hi shitforbrains 604 percent? So how come Canucks and Brits live longer than Americans

  • @davijeph Can you read ?

Better look at USA Car Accidents -

  • @kim8040 Hi shitforbrains Can I what?

  • @davijeph I found a clip about you

    youtube - /watch?v=HPmpIY7XJVE&feature=related

  • @kim8040 Hishitforbrains Sorry, I cannot understand what you are saying

  • home owner Percent USA 2008 67.8

UK is lower than that also we have way more people than the UK !!!!!!!!

  • @kim8040 • Owner-occupation in the UK has increased by 25 percentage points from 43% in 1961 to 68% in 2008.

  • Well un like you I am not getting my talking points from Bill Mahr !

you fake British Idiot ! !!!

davijeph = Fake British idiot ! I promise reader he works for Acorn !

  • @kim8040 Oh, come on not "fake" and apart from the obvious what or who is "Acorn"

  • @kim8040 Hi shitforbrains Glad to see I'm really getting up your nose, ya burke

  • I think you are full of shit -

Yea America needs true reform not the BO care - We need GOP care !

    BY the way google

    NHS millions with out dentist

    NHS doctor and nurse shortages

    NHS Budget shortfalls

    NHS ration Cancer care

    NHS rationed care

    on and on

  • @kim8040 Hi shitforbrains (1) possible (2) What America needs is civilisation and (3,4,5,6)you keep repeating yourself like a person full of shit .Oh, sorry you are a person full of shit.

  • @kim8040 And what exactly is the GOPs healthcare reform solution? I dont see any detailed proposals for an alternative solution to the healthcare issue?

  • @ow4744 Well you did not really look to hard did you -

Republicans Introduced: The Improving Health Care for All Americans Act

  • 47 million in US without insurance , Boy that is the biggest lie around - that was exposed when BHO told it !!!!!

NHS is bankrupting the UK !!!!

    Google NHS budge shortfalls

  • @kim8040 If you had one US citizen without full medical cover that would be one to many. Even you admit to a least 10,000,000 without any health cover which means 47,000,000 is nearer the mark then add to that the unknown millions US citizens under insured. NHS is not bankrupting UK it's excellent value for money unlike US. Lack of US health care killing at least 22000 people a year. You really barking mad.

  • All one has to do is think which system is better ? Not one citizen in UK worries about health costs, Every citizen in UK gets full medical cover US health care rated 37 UK rated 18 47 million in US without insurance, millions more with to little Thousands of US citizens made bankrupt because they cannot afford medical bills Total UK citizens gone bankrupt in UK for not paying NHS bills Zip, Zero, none UK pays 8% GDP on NHS US spends 16%+ of GDP UK citizens live longer than US citizens
  • @davijeph No shortage of dentists in UK

Rationing by inability to pay rampant in US health care to the point it is proved to be a barbaric system.

  • Comment removed

  • All one has to do is google !

    BBC Rationed NHS care

    BBC shortage Dentists

    BBC Rationed Cancer care

    On and on

BBC NHS budget shortfall rationed care !

  • Some patients? SPend weeks months years for surgerys? This guy is so full of fucking shit. Go suck on some more american insurance companies CEOs cock.

  • Cuba Canada France japan great britian All have universal health care some slightly different than others some u have to buy ur own scripts some pay you for your travel expencises and not a one of these hospitals in these countries will ever send you a bill and yeah they pay for it through taxes but its not killing them or making them poor or less rich in fact it works out best u dont get injured and have to pay more than u make in a year for 3-4 days in a hospital. Its all about WE. NOT ME.

  • Up to $100,000?! That's about 70 grand! I'm genuinely shocked. How expensive would a typical US insurance company's plan be to cover all of that cost?

  • i love america but i dont wanna pay 68000 dollars for some bullshit tests and treatments when i have a broken leg, so i think imma move to france... should i?

  • @AlexNecrofeliac Only if you speak French. Do you have health insurance? if you do does it give unlimited cover regardless of treatment cost for all illnesses all your life irrespective of your ability to pay so you will never fear for you or your family about health cost (no bankruptcies). If so would the premiums to pay your insurer be within your means to pay? If not and you are willing to work hard and have skills then think about moving to the UK you already speak the lingo (well sort of )

  • lol everyone is picking on Americans these days.

Used to be the other way around ...

  • Oh and BTW England; for health insurance I pay about $49 for my self and my employer plays the remainder. Thats about 1.6% of my pay check, so you can all eat shit thank you very much =)

  • @Messier83 Does that gives you 100% cover on every medical condition for you and your family with no deductibles, co-pay, no Dr's bills including doctors/nursing home visits if required plus back up if needed from careers and any home helps, equipment needed, no rip-off prescription charges, no fear about cover if you lose your job. Plus the knowledge that every citizen can get the same cover. Sir, I think it's you that does not know what the f***your talking about.

  • @davijeph I pay $48 a month, I have a health savings plan that covers a max yearly deductable of $1,500. 100% of everything after the deductable is paid by my insurance. That means 100%. Listen carefully... 100%. That means that The max that I will pay for health care provided I actually get sick every year and use all of the deductable is about $2000. If I dont get sick... and I usually dont.... I will pay about $576 per year on health care.

  • @Messier83 Good for, but your still talking rot the average person in the UK pays less for their health care with the knowledge that everybody is always covered 100% of the time.On top of your costs do you not help to pay for medicare etc. Unemployment rate in UK 8%in USA 9.5%, I in my 50 years working life I had a total of 3 weeks unemployed. Most UK citizens like most in the USA are hard working . If you are an example of educated America it's no wonder you elected a prat like Pres Bush Jnr.

  • @davijeph Yeah and we also have a lot more fuckin bums in the US. Imagine that 12 million Turkish assholes just decide to move on into the UK uninvited with no way for your country to meet their needs. Thats one problem here. Illegal immigrants are always ALWAYS >=( counted into statistics here. So really, there is a lot to not be said about statistics.

  • @Messier83 Well for a start we can see you are a waffling cunt and an ignorant, heartless bastard. I own my home/car and all mod cons after being born into working class slum during War 11.Home ownership US 68.7%, UK 70% at 2007. The welfare state gave me and millions of others the chance to break out of my economic surrounding. Le'shia could not help being thick but her children would have no chance in the Land of the Free. In a civilized European State they would be given have that chance.

  • @davijeph Yeah just like the 6 million turkish "guest workers" in Berlin. Ohh they are living such happy and free lives as doctors and lawyers and scientists. And dont forget about all of the arabs in Paris who live in villas and hold important jobs in government. And dont forget about the muslims in London who are welcomed by their neighbors and gladly accepted into the folds of English society. Its a crock of SHIT!

  • @davijeph In a civilized European state you would have a chance. What a load of shit. I have been to that civilized European state my simpleton friend and the only people who reap the benefit of your socialist network are the shareholders. Just like in the US. Oh and your forgot to mention that 7 million home owners in the UK are paying for their homes with welfare money. Thats 1/3!!! UAHH!! You make me want to puke all over my computer!!

  • @davijeph 61% of single parent families in the UK would rot away with out welfare. Dont you see what your nation has created? You have lost your independence to government handouts. Everytime the going gets tough you scream GOVERNMENT!!! GOVERNMENT SAVE ME!!! PLEASE SAVE ME!!! And you get pissed off when an American says STAY AWAY I DONT NEED THE GOD DAMNED GOVERNMENTS HELP, I WILL HELP MY SELF!!

  • @davijeph live in your welfare paradise for all I care.... Then when your taxes rise to 30% then 40% then then 80% you will have no personal life or freedom you will just beg for scraps from the government. Obviously you have lost the capacity to think independently. You have no personal sense of pride. And the assholes in the US fucking our shit up are JUST like the asswipes in Europe. Give them all what they want!! Yeah, thats the right answer!

  • @Messier83 It might or might not interest you to know I am not "pissed of" with what you are saying. My friends, all of them independent of government "hand outs" and I who are reading the tripe you write are just amused that you can be so ignorant of our society and be so proud of the primitiveness of your own. Like I have said previously you are obviously a waffling cunt. When you grow a brain please feel free to contact me again. Regards davijeph

  • @davijeph waffling cunt? Seriously? Why dont you retire to some tea and crumpets and make some more meaningless bull shit.

You my friend are a loser. You suck at debate, plain and simple. You cant make a single solid point because you dont have any. You just keep saying waffling cunt... Uhh huhhh Uhhh huuhhh Uhhh huh huh huh... so funny, uhhahhh so funny- waffling cunt.

    What a dip shit...

  • @Messier83 if being a waffling cunt annoys you Im sorry? Ok, I'm not. All advanced capitalist democracies are competitive. Unlike the US all others are civilized enough to make provision for those unable to look after them selves, the UK's NHS is an example of this. Scum like you object to having to help pay for the needs of the poor. How much of wealth spent on you over 24 years, food, housing, play, education, medical etc ,etc as been generated by your efforts. Oh and you are a waffling cunt.

  • Its obvious that we come from two different cultures that neither of us will either respect. You come from a socialist welfare state that hooks people on government tax dollars. I come from a developing socialist welfare state that hooks people on tax dollars, that the average citizen opposes and thinks is ethically, politically and economically unsound and is demonized by the rest of the western world for not being another conformist union of government slaves. Lets just leave it at that =)

  • @davijeph I like my money in my pocket. You like your money in other peoples pockets. You want the government to give you eveything you need. I take pride in taking care of my self. You have pitty of those who wont work. I have pitty on those who have to work twice as hard to for those who wont work. You think that health care is a right given to the people. I think that health care is a privilege earned by the people. So think what you want, I could care less.

  • @Messier83 Thanks about the "Church " bit, I bet a couple of fiends who guessed you belonged to a church, I felt given your foul language and primitive ideas, even for an American you would not be allowed in a church organization. So thanks, I'm now 20 quid up, isnt free enterprise wonderful? Just a finishing note, you did not answer the question about your contribution to your own welfare so I suspect you have never needed in your life. Maybe you would have been a better person if you had.

  • @davijeph You dont have any friends lol. And you know what, you can go blow it out of your elitist European ass. Thats all you marxist drones are, elitist scum bags. Oh I know how you and the French work. You have cute little dinner parties are you sit around the table and jerk eachother off while you sing praises to how high and mightly you are because you were the first dick heads to think up a new neoliberal policy that could shrink the subclasses base of free thinking people.

  • @Messier83 I think youre to full of hate for your fellow man. That a section of society will always try to abuse any welfare system you are right. Not all rich deserve to be rich not all poor deserve to be poor. Most on welfare do need help, everybody who is sick does. Seldom been to a diner party, have friends ,do you don't drink much tea and never eat a crumpet in my life. Long past jerking anything off. Given we have an election today I will not be voting for the "Socialist" party.

  • @davijeph So go drown your self in your pride, remind your self how enlightened you are and go start another doomed social experiment that will likely end in genocide- thats what Europe does best =) And remember, at least your not like the Americans. At least you have the security of being able to just quit your job and live high on the hog- because fuck it! Your not paying for it, so why no just take whats free?

  • @Messier83 My pride, like yours is the pride of self achievement. I would remind you the US is also capable of evil, 160+ years of black oppression, genocidal wars against your native tribes? To be unemployed in this country is not that easy and most unemployed desire work, The problem is in any society their are going to be millions of genuine citizens who do need help, not all people can be productive for a whole variety of genuine reasons does a civilized society deny them help.

  • @davijeph Oh and to answer your question- in my first 18 years I was given nothing by no one. I come from a single parent home, we were never on welfare, I had no money from either parent to go to school and up until I was 19 I had no health insurance. But now I am 25, I make 45K a year, I put my self through school with no student loans, I own my car, I have $1,500 of disposable income every month and I pay a nominal fee for my health insurance.

  • @Messier83 Sir if what you say is true you are to be congratulated and are quite right to have pride in your efforts. I mentioned earlier I came from a working class slum and have built myself up from nothing so I do have pride in that. I did not along with millions of similar to me did get into higher education. Our class system at the time ensured that. Indeed so bad was the average slum kids education during the 40s I left school at fifteen having never read a book, I've read a few since.

  • @davijeph You think I am full of shit? Here watch these poor, poor, poor, dirt poor, starving Americans line up for housing assistance. Dont they just look like they cant afford to live? Cant you see that they need my tax money to pay for their home so that they can pay for other things like their cell phone bill, their direct TV cable, their new cloths.... Barack save these people, their new cloths are out of style! /watch?v=YfGLB8LO1aM

  • @Messier83 Any welfare system is open to abuse, we have similar problems to US in that area, abuse happens, paying for illegal immigrants create a strong feeling of resentment in both those who genuinely require help and those who pay the tax bills, me included (I have been a tax payer for the past fifty years) This video is about health care during almost all my life from the poverty of my childhood to the later comfort I achieved not one person in the UK as had to fear medical costs.

  • that would be OK if we all got the same money per unit of work, but we don't... and some people work twice as hard for 10th the wage and cant afford any healthcare, whereas some people hardly work and get paid 10 times as much, and a fat bonus on top. Universal health care is for those that work hard and still don't earn enough too. And I don't think being poor and not working are always linked, do you?

  • @Messier83 Sorry forgot, I've been asked to enquire, just for the record ,do you belong to a Church? regards Davjeph.

  • @davijeph For the record... No I dont. I dont like being told what to think.

  • @davijeph And yes my taxes do go to medicare. No, I dont pay even close to what a European pays in taxes. Lets just forget about "petrol" for a moment... just what you pay in sales tax over the course of a year will double, sometimes tripple what the average American pays in taxes. Thats why hardly any one in Europe owns their own home... nearly half of their income in most countries goes to the Government to fund welfare programs.

  • @davijeph Well we have a different culture in the USA. You work hard to have comodities like a home, a car, an education and good health insurance. We dont think that just because you were born the rest of hard working society is in debt to you if you dont want to get off your fat ass and work. I am a paramedic, I see the rich, the middle class and the poor every day. Most of the poor chose to be poor, I dont care what liberal propaganda you try to feed me on that one.

  • So you know what I say to Ie'shia who has 6 kids, no job, cant read, and does not know how many quarters are in a dollar? FUCK EM! Why should my tax money pay for her and her 6 kids when she is so fuckin ignorant, so lazy, that she does not know how many quarters are in a dollar? If the NNACP wants to help her thats their business but my tax money should come back to benefit me when I am 65 and ready to retire. Not pay for socialized health care for lazy noobs.

  • @davijeph that means that on an average year I have the same 100% coverage that you do... for half the cost. If I lose my job.. now just try to stay with me on this one because I know you come from a socialist welfare state so this is going to be a tough one for you understand... I find a new one =O OMG!!! IMAGINE THAT!! I CAN DO THE RESPONSIBLE THING TO DO AND FIND A NEW JOB!! Dont you Brits have any common fuckin sense?

  • @davijeph And before you dive into all this bullshit about a recession and unemployment in America.. After I graduated from school (imagine that another responsible thing to do) it took... oooooooohhh about 4 weeks to start a new full time job. Oh, and BTW I turned down 3 other jobs for the one that I am at. So dont try and patronize with me some liberal mumbo jumbo about a down economy.

  • Is the reporter seriously trying to sugar coat sharing a room with 15 other people? If I am sick and miserable the last god damned thing that I want is to be waken up at 3am by the asswipe next to me who has to get on the cell phone and remind aunt margaret to bring his slippers in the morning. I will keep my private or 2 person room thank you very much!

  • First of all no one pays $100,000 for anything here. If she had a job for a large business she would have private insurance and they would pay the cost of the surgery.

  • We could have free universal health care in the usa....we just have to dump the space program, stop giving billions in foreign aid to countries that hate us, stop invading countries at a cost of billions of dollars, stop borrowing money from the federal reserve and print "united States Notes" instead of federal Reserve Notes....and alot of other things we could do (or not do)

  • Paul what everDougouba?America Is evil?Any living being illegal or home grown has access to health care. Our dogs have better health care than most of the european countries, lie and say its free..Nothing is free. Our Medical fields are top notch because they can charge people what it costs them to figure the cure out.Nobody is left to die in the streets have you not noticed that. You don,t see people dying in the streets in America. They have tvs running water, sewage,

  • Not for cancer care, get your facts right. The cancer plan.

  • America...you are an EVIL people.

You DENY Heath Care to the poor. You let the poor DIE for PROFIT!!!

You allow RICH Corporations to kill you by denying medical treatment and operations so some Rich Bastard can get a higher percentage point on their profits.

USA - Do you realize that the WORLD looks upon you with DISGUST and CONTEMPT?

You KILL your own sick and poor citizens....all for the benefit of the RICH!!!

    You evil people.......

  • @PaulDougouba Not fair.

Congress is in the pocket of the medical companies and so several media outlets who collectively lie and trick many people into believing what's best for the rich is best for them.

  • It's the truth.

  • WTF?

    What are you on about?

Most people wanted the public option.

My, my, You are one pissed of stereotype.

Why exactly are you blaming everyone for what 20 percent of the population thought they wanted?

  • WTF?

    What are you on about?

    Most people wanted universal coverage.

My, my, you are on pissed off stereotype.

Why exactly are you blaming everyone for what 20 percent of the nation THOUGHT they wanted?

  • I guessing but I would be surprised if this lady was not on above average income for the UK .First she is well dressed, articulate, seems to live in a good part of London and I think it would be fair to assume she as not come to London to work as a cleaning lady.We are told she pays 3% of her income for health cover covering all costs except the possible payment for prescription dugs around $10 per item US .Question how much does the average US middle earner have to pay to get the same cover?

  • You know there's a problem with the US health care system when, when someone is ill, the first question people ask is, "Do they have insurance?" rather than "Will they be okay?" Here it's becoming a bigger and bigger problem, because people will NOT be okay if they have no insurance or really bad insurance. It's shameful. Just sickening.

  • British is a godd system because we do not pay anything upconfront and get all treatment free through taxes on your pay cheque's national insurance. Why can't america get a simliar system. This will reduce all the treatable diseases that exist

  • maybe so. I like it that low earners don't live in fear of being unable to meet health care bills in my country, I'm not poor now but I have been.

Many British workers think their 'National Insurance' payroll deduction pays for the NHS and gives them entitlement, but in fact it just goes in with all other taxes. Access to NHS care is a universal right in Britain whether you pay NI, income tax or not.

Whatever, it beats a system which enriches CEOs, bankrupts workers and denies the poor.

  • I live in Barcelona, Spain, and my girlfriend got breast cancer. In 1 month she did the operation, in an excelent public hospital, sharing room with 1 person only with private bathroom, she just finished in 5 months quimiotherapy and she will have also radiotherapy. The costs/expenses untill now are ... ZERO ! Everything is covered by the national healthcare system. Even medicin like Avastin was for free, and medicin that she had to buy the most expensive costs 2 or 3 euros ( 5 dolars )

  • I have lived in the UK and used NHS on several occasions, and I have also worked as a medical technologist for a VA hospital in the States. In response to posts, NHS "state run" med. can't be compared to GOV run hospital in the States. The Brits have NHS as their main medical care, GOV run hosp. in US are far fewer and have more problems than private, due to funding.

  • I worked all my adult life in the NHS, I'd say it works reasonably well a lot of the time, but could do better if we had more funding, checks on timewasters (e.g. charge for missed appointments) and less energy wasted on continuous politically driven reorganisation.

But the US/UK debate shows that if we didn't have politicians meddling things up we'd have CEOs of insurance companies enriching themselves at our expense, so I guess its a choice of evils.

European systems seem to do best.

  • In Wales all Health care is free, including drugs they are no car-park fees and our waiting list are low.. Nightingale wards

( wards with many patients) are slowly being phased out. Yes, like

all large organizations things go wrong. Nothing is prefect but the NHS works for us. Free to all at source of need. What ever the medical need we are covered with nothing to pay. Each month I pay from my salary about £17 sterling. No big deal.

     Taff

  • I am an American living in the UK. I really like the NHS and am very thankful for it. However, the US health system is not as evil as some think. The people with no money do get treated well for heart and cancer problems). The only problem is hesitancy to see the primary doctor due to cost and you get worse and possibly die.

The NHS is better solely because of the primary care -- that it's free to all. All other things (apart from cost to the individual, which is serious) are equal.

  • Having a go at socialised medicine now are we?

You Americans so fucking scared of anything other than capitalism you cant see a good thing when its there

See, we don't determine whether one should get healthcare on the basis of whats in their wallets. If I get a heart attack, I wont have to pay for an ambulance to come and get me, it will just come and get me.

Sucks to be you. Shame your government doesnt care for you as much. It only wants your money. Even when you're on the brink of death.

  • But what is the quality, in most cases? I've never been to England, but speaking purely on the basis of economic theory, a publicly-run system usually does not run as well as private companies competing for the consumer. My brother and many friends work for govt agencies here in America, and they all confirm the stereotype that govt jobs are a piece of cake and that most of their co-workers lollygag around all day. My friends work for NYC, and they were laughing at how good they got it.

  • @slapshotbob

What the report failed to mention was that we have both private and social healthcare in parallel. And there have been lots of scandals about the private healthcare being substandard in order to cut corners on money, e.g. not having a bloodbank within reach in case something goes wrong during surgury - standard practice in the NHS.

  • When one is speaking on the basis of economic theory, one provides statistical evidence. Your anecdote does not qualify.

  • well economic theory has been brought in to question many times by reality not least recently so to go 'purely' on its basis is stupidity. If the NHS was private all that would matter was the money patients produced not the patients themselves.

  • Take it from me, working for the NHS is not a piece of cake.

I understand your idea that private companies competing for the consumer come up with the best results. Only in health, the reverse is true. The patients who really need the help are those who are not given the help they should receive, precisely because of the need to make a profit. In the NHS (which is by no means perfect), the only consideration is the patient's needs. End of discussion. They are patients, not customers.

  • I'm an NHS therapist working in primary care and believe me when i say that if there are people who sit around on there arse all day i haven't met them in the public sector. Most if not all NHS staff work there fingers to the bone for there patients. Besides the fundamental principle which underlies the american healthcare system is profit, instead of patient need. Its this fundamental principle which is the source of all negative points in the US healthcare system!

  • @browny2806

    1) How does the system actually work as far as getting drugs and equipment? Are they supplied by corporations through competitive bidding, or does the health care system itself create and manufacture these things? I'm curious how much is controlled by the govt and how much is private?

2)I'm not opposed in principle to the govt, its just life experience (at least in America) that govt workers generally work less hard. You're govt may just work better and the people more motivated.

  • How much do doctors make in this system? I know better than anyone that the current US system is not perfect.

My father, and grandfather were doctors, and my mother was a nurse. All their friends were doctors & nurses. But none of their children became doctors. We were all told how the profession was not as good as it once was (lower pay, less respect, more paperwork, malpractice insurance, etc.) The problem is that medicaid is not run well either, and public healthcare is medicaid-for-all.

  • @browny2806 I agree, NHS System is similar to Australia's medicare. Profit is not driving force.

  • That about waiting for treatment isn't accurately explained, an elective cosmetic surgery procedure (or similar) is of low medical urgency, i have known people with serious conditions which risk their life that have been admitted -squeezed in within 2 DAYS, if that means me or another guy waits a few Days more for our simple routine procedure SO WHAT Medical need is deciding factor, NOT how large a cost they can bill the Insurance Company for!.

  • Excuse me..."Negative"

  • The media in america amazes me. Even when interviewing a person that has had a good eperience with the NHS they try to throw in whatever negatice comments they can to try and bash it. It seems to me the only reason they even did this story is to make it "appear" as if they are not biased or one sided, but like I said...it only appears that way.

  • oops i thumbed down ur comment when i was trying to thumb up :(

  • in america the woman with no money and cancer would get treated "AFTER"

the rich woman who "WANTED" plastic surgery.

sure there can be long waiting times on the nhs but because we have "PRIORITY" and the very ill get treated before the not so ill

  • Life expectancy in Britain is higher. We spend nearly 50% less person on health than US citizens. We have the best palliative care in the world (One of the few things in the world we do lead on) The money that is wasted due to the beaurocrattic nature of the NHS is wasted needlessly employing people in the main.

The money that is wasted in the US is due to companies profiteering on people health by putting profit margins on life saving drugs?

Which system makes more sense to you?

  • this is balanced

  • Every time I read a comment from yet another foaming right-wing Septic about the NHS I remember why people fly aeroplanes at them. They really do constitute the arsehole of humanity.

  • -American people are not voting.

-Americans eat the propaganda their governement and domestic news corporations sell to them, no questions asked. "Army Strong" "Learn leet skills by enlisting in the navy" "OMG North Korea is facing food crisis(US stopped aid from entering the country when excessive crops failed.)

-Health Insurance Companies and Drug research companies lobby the hell out of senators and represenatives.

Wake up america and realize what is real and what is fake.

  • PAY ATTENTION DUMBASS AMERICANS

  • I never cease to be amazed at the degree to which Americans are simply brainwashed. Universal Health Care is actually the cheapest, most effecient, and above all the fairest way to deliver health care. Most of us Brits are very proud of the NHS. Who wants to live in a society where the most common form of bankruptcy is as a result of health care bills? We live longer in Britain. Does that not really say it all?

  • are you being paid to spread this bullshit or are you just thick as pig shit?

  • 4,000 women turned away when their babies were due? Are you an idiot?

Survival rates for cancer in uk and america are broadly similar.

You also have the complications of over diagnosis in America ad the fact that EVERY diagnosis and death is recorded in England. This is not the case in USA.

You can't really compare the two countries tbh.

  • Comment removed

  • The U.S.A health system is efficient you are correct. AT NEEDLESSLY KILLING NEARLY 48 000 citizens who cannot afford health insurance ANNUALLY. WELL DONE!!!

  • @AnomicHumanist First I heard 22,000 then you say 48,000 another person said 68,000. I dont think that any of you know what the fuck you are talking about!

  • Italy's plan:

[People] choose to take out private health insurance to cover the costs of hospitalization and surgery and to get extra comfort when needed, and above all to avoid the long waiting lists.

So the idea that free market and private insurance companies will disapear, is a most absurd claim. You will stay have a job, maybe a new one, working for the government this type, as government regulated health program would employ many people, reducing the unemployment and your fears.

  • 87Chadie you're such an idiot, you wouldn't know socialism if it bit you on the ass. That's fine that you personally find you get treated better as a private patient, I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford private health insurance too (in Australia), but that does not mean the NHS should not exist. You need both public & private to work so everyone has options (not just the lucky ones like us).

"I choose CAPITALISM & the FREE market" I see fox news has taught you well.. thanks for the laugh

  • Nothing wrong with choosing capitalism and the free market over socialized government programs! Of course I'm sure 87Chadie is consistent and also campaigns against taxpayer-funded programs like:

    Law enforcement

    Fire departments

    Public roads

    Libraries

    Publicly funded education

    USPS

    Medicare and Medicaid

    Scientific research

No doubt 87Chadie demands all these be abolished immediately in favor of private enterprise. Being able to drive on roads without paying a toll is anti-capitalist craziness!

  • As far as health care goes, the US is a nation with a monkey on its back. Believe the self interested lies of the U.S. Health insurance industry and they will carry on screwing you. The U.S. may be hotly debating having universal health care, but absolutely no one outside the U.S. is even remotely contemplating adopting the U.S. system.

  • the figure of 3% is evident nonsense. Our British NHS costs 8% of our GDP.

we have income tax, and something called 'national insurance' its too boring to explain in detail, but the national insurance is simply income tax by another name and is not the same as insurance.

The NHS is funded from general taxation.

It has good and bad points, I know I

I use it as a patient and work in it as a doctor, but the cost is 8% of GPD, not 3% of pay packet, thats just grossly inaccurate.

  • inbrussels you have no idea what you are talking about the UK system beats the US system in all but 1 field in the statistics but more to the point the NHS is about caring its about the British attitude that we care about other people's health and not just our own. and the 11% NHS contribution i make from my wages i gladly give and never begrudge. the fear that the people in th
