I think actual footage --- though good --- would not have been that much helpful in the over all story narrative, since the footage are fleeting background scenes. Now, if your documentary was to show the "weapons" and tactics of armies, as well as when & where they're developed and/or deployed, then, yes, it would be necessary to show accurate historical footage, since such footage are going to be an integral part of the actual narrative itself...
in 6:43 the scenes of tanks and soldiers on move are not from Polish Campaign, not even from 1939, but somewhere after 1943 as I suspect looking on Tiger 2 tank. It's a shame, cause there are many German original movies of how they conquered Poland, which could have been used.
@zuluslaw You're right , some of these scenes are not historically accurate which is a shame. Virtually all the footage and photographs from THE WORLD AT WAR series year by year was historically accurate.
hmm..they seem to forget that most of what is Poland today was Prussia! and that many Prussians were murdered by pole's after WWI

@ADVtheMISSIONARY Yeah, this fact doesn't get mentioned. The Poles treated Germans very badly after both World Wars.
