Like anything else, it's what you make of it. I was a jock in school and do martial arts training now. I love the Combat Mission series and other computer games. I also love miniature war gaming. If you call me a nerd for that I'll break your arm, hit you on the head with my computer, and poke you in the eyes with lead.. Seriously, computer gaming can take you deeper into tactics (unless it's a first person shooter), and miniature figures satisfy the artist in us, the kid that loves models.
This is only nerdy if you find history, math and a study of the mechanics of war just too challenging for your XBOX brain to grasp, go skateboard in front of the grocery store I will take these intelligent nerds any day over a dumbass with a low attention span and no imagination.
Meh, Field of Glory is better to reinact the carnage of the battle of Waterloo and that game is from the 90s.
Nice, how people seem to talk to eachother here. We got "miniature nerds", "gaming nerds" and a third group...well, probably the jocks (sports nerds). Nerd-bashing is stupid and immature anyways.
I do my best LoL ! However getting abuse online for "being a nerd" from people who are proud that they play computer games - and who can't spell or punctuate properly - helps keeps me from dropping off :-)
For your information, before computers, this was the nearest thing to Total War anyone had. If it wasn't for our ancestors pushing plastic figures around a table and developing the mathmatics, we wouldn't have Total War.
So, old fashioned nerds play with figures with friends, modern nerds play Total War alone in their bedrooms. Different eras, same nerds.
With a rule book, tables of numbers, a ruler, dice and a calculator. All the maths, ranges, morale, accuracy, casualties, charge bonuses that Total War does for you, they have to calculate from the rule book and look up from the tables of numbers. Doing it on computers is easier, quicker and much cheaper, there's probably $200 worth of figures at least on that table, older metal sets are worth thousands.
