Ike was a good man, a peacemaker, a progressive and one of the best republican presidents in history. Yea, FDR and Truman were better, but out of all the presidents we had from 1933 - present, Ike is the third best. King George W. was the worst.

@AwfulVision Reagan was no conservative. As Governor of California, he signed legislation liberalizing the abortion law (six years before Roe v. Wade) and allowing no-fault divorce. He was nothing but a B movie actor with an ability to read a script well, and look where it got him. All the way to the White House.

So are Eisenhower and Bush the only Republicans he doesn't like?

No. Some other Republicans my dad doesn't like are George H. W. Bush and Richard Nixon. Otherwise, he likes every other Republican president. The one Republicans president he likes in particular is Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan is his favorite president. Reagan was good in my opinion. He also likes Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt and I do too because their my two favorite presidents.

anyway, i just got your invitation... now, I thought Reagan, Roosevelt and especially Lincoln were cool! Besides Ike, Reagan served tow full terms, TR served eight years, but he had to continue McKinley's 2nd term after he died, and he got elected to his own. Lincoln was slated for a second term, but too bad he was killed. I fully understand why your dad doesn't like GHW and Nixon, ESPECIALLY Nixon.

Tell me about it. Roosevelt, Truman, and Coolidge were three presidents who were each elected to a full term after continuing the term of their preceder. Roosevelt and Truman served eight years. Coolidge, like Johnson, served six years and refused to accept a second term.

In 1985 it was the same situation: January 20 fell on a Sunday for Reagan's second inaugural, just as it had in 1957 for Ike's second inaugural. Like Ike had done, Reagan was sworn-in in a private White House ceremony on Sunday, January 20, 1985 and the public ceremony was held the next day (Monday, January 21) at the U.S. Capitol.
