They executed the idea perfectly and they really can resume easily, nothing really changed in anime ending, even last battle was just a filler to make a fake culmination.
I thought at first they spoiled it, too. I read through all the manga to this day and it's amazing how they interpreted manga into anime, they fixed some minor things which I didn't like in manga. Great work, end was as good as a "last minute cut" it could be.

when they did the anime, after episode 26 they deviated away from the manga plot, so if they picked it back up, there would be ALOT of holes
