  • this completely kills software like the audiorealism bassline, or the bee303, putting the resonance up a bit and moving through the filter is a great test, the xoxbox gets that "skreaming" cutting through the mix sound so close to the real thing. this, along with the future retro revolution, imho are the closest to the real thing that i have heard so far, thanks for the demo and sharing!

  • what did you use as a guide for the build?

  • i could skate on that xox

  • How difficult was it to build this? I'm not much of an electronics guy but I can use a soldering iron.

  • How many different colors did these things come in? This is like the fourth one I've seen that's different from all the rest.

  • @gridsleep Hi,its all down to you, they usualy have a black body and silver fascia, however the sky`s the limit to how you paint it,mine has a glow in the dark body and several layers of clear green paint on the fascia.,ive seen them with wooden bodies, metal bodies, clear bodies alsorts.

  • this is the best sounding x0xb0x on the YOUTUBE :)

  • BEAST

  • ROLAND TR 505 IN ORIGINAL BOX WITH MANUAL !!! FOR SALE !!! SEND ME MESSAGE....

  • Well engineered.

  • @tyebillion

    Thanks :-)

  • thats cool, id like to make one so i could create video game music

  • erm, also, the price of the x0xb0x's parts, I'm curious.

  • @Cds56

  • @Cds56

Hi,it took me around 6 nights work, sat on my bedroom floor,it was quite easy and the hardest thing is triple checking each step as you go and assemble,

it cost me around £250 to make but i imported parts from the usa and australia so paid import duty etc

Worth it all though in the end.

  • @Dazbo10 Thanks ,

  • How long did it take ya to build this?

  • :-)

  • Nice ^^

  • its leik the tb 303

    how mutch does it costs???

  • Hi - this sounds fantastic and congrats on a successful build, however (genuine question) is the cost and effort worth it? What I mean is can this not be successfully emulated by VSTi's, or is the difference in sound, warmth, tone, dynamic range etc so vast as to be worth the build (I am an electronic music production hobbyist with a background in radio and radio engineering)

  • yeas vst have some instruments that have even more options to do the sound hot :)

  • Aren't the kits from diabolical devices in florida? also, you can buy them built from big city music. soundz good.

  • seems well built.

    im also in to electronics.

    both audio and radio.

    and i like ... aciiiiied???

  • Is there a UK distributor for the kits for one of these?

  • Hi MrJackieblack,

here is no Uk dstrib im sorry to say, however getting a kit is not that hard at all,.ive got some rare parts for another 3 machines :) But to source al the parts is easiest and a self build etc conact me if you would like to know more mate,im in Uk.

    Dazbo

  • (Bad spelling)

  • I NEED TO KNOW MORE!!!!!!!!

Lol, i love 303's mate. Would love one. I've already built my firs synth. a MFOS Music From Outer Space thing. I sourced the kit and made the panel with the laser cutter at work. I reckon I could do a 303 easy but would definitely need a kit of parts. SOme of those rares are killer to find!! How much can you source me the gear for?

  • hey! it looks like you have stepwrite on this!..or do need my ays checked out?

this sounds exatly like the real thing.. same compnenents everything. only plate is diffrence!

does this thing has the standard 303pattren making grooves.. or the TR way..?

anything that not can be done on a tr-style?

thaT can be done on tap write?

  • Hi Petersedin,

Yes it has stepwrite, also the same as standard 303 pattern making method,.. however, cos it has USB you cand load up a different operating system - there are around 5 available,. you can do a litle more like reverse patterns on the fly and loop ANY section on the fly,. as for the plate there is a fascia that is almost the same as the Tb303,.silver etc.,If u would like to now more about how to get or make one of these units give me a shout, its very easy.

    Dazbo

  • well done it sounds so good!

  • with my luck, when I'd first turn it on after assembly it wouldn't work...

  • Dont forget tho,the x0xb0x is very good as it has full midi and also USB,that makes it very attractive :)

  • Hey Dazbo. Is your ABS case the 'bone' version ?? Or did u paint that too ? Good look ...

  • Its a good clone, but still far from the real TB-303 sound. I have both and they still have a big difference.

  • Heavyjohnson ,theres hardly any noticable difference in sound - thats a 100% fact, same components inside and 100`s of people have carefully compared the sounds and they all agree the same.,blindfolded you would not tell the difference,of course you would say you can,

I know people who own multiple tb303`s and they confirm what im saying. - off course theres 1 thing you cant beat and thats the real thing - the real thing is the real thing - but soundwise there nigh on the same.

  • Hey Dazbo! I love your panel.. Did you make it yourself? Yeah sound is awesome I just think I can hear a difference; b0x is a little less dirty and not as edgy.

  • Hya Heavy,

Its the standard aluminium panel tho its sprayed with a type of Glass paint, its a clear paint with a touch of green so the lettering shows thru the paint :)

I admit the real Tb303 is probably a little dirtier,.. tho the xoxbox has the same insides they are modern equivalents,. hence more stable and less prone to distortion - so i take my hat off to you for being spot on ! :)

    nice one bud.

  • You asked why I have both? I love the midipart in the Suckbox.. and my 303 is very old and used now, so ofcourse like the rest of us, always looking for a continuation to keep our passion alive :))

  • Your resonance doesn't correspond to the real thing (you can hear it very well on its highest setting). Or did you boost it?

  • Comment removed

  • why have a xoxbox lol you have the real thing!

  • Hi, It looks amazing. How do you print the text back on the panel?? (After your spray 5 layers on the panel)

  • Yeah i agree with TheTux...

i owned one 2 ....but it sounds totally real ...looks good also ;)

    Good Job

  • Definitely the most realistic hardware emulation I've ever heard. If I didn't know better I'd have said that was the real thing (and I used to own a real one.)

  • thanks The Tux .

  • Emulation is not the right word, it's an exact replica of the 303, component for component. It surpasses the 303 by adding USB and MIDI.

  • How compatible is the midi? Any problems syncing it up with a drum machine?

  • Hi,Midi with the x0xb0x is pretty rock solid,it syncs very well with both software sequencers and hardware drum machines and external sequencers ( i have tried all 3 ) In fact the x0x can comfortably be used as the master to drive/lock sequencers & drum machines together.,and they respond well to tempo changes and can even be used simply as a sound source if needed.

  • Hopefully this also applies to Roland's Groovebox series. Thanks.

  • do you know who can assemble the x0xb0x?? im thinking of buying one...

  • Hi Owlwink,

I could assemble one for you if you Live in the Uk,however if you live in the USA or Europe i also know others who could assemble one for you.,

The kit would have to be self sourced but thats easy to do,

let me know and i can enquire for you.,

b t w ,i am making another soon for myself also.

  • sounds nice. good job!

  • cheers mate !

  • hey daz...

Just ordered a Vermona DRM1 and getting a Xbase 888 in 2 months :) acid to the masses...

get off your arse and come to preston

  • a nice socksbocks movie

  • very nice! I'm so anxious for my kit to arrive! that jam must have been so rewarding after building it. the the green panel with the white trim really is a nice touch.

  • Thanks hellvines it was,on my first power up i did fry the first 9v psu tho,.however,if i may say - my advice when you start your build,. do it slowly and double check everything, then check again allways before soldering in place.

    good luck on your build.!

    Dazbo.

  • I appreciate the advice! keep it acid

  • you could just sit there all day playing with that thing by itself

  • Been looking forward to the end of this build Daz, you've done yourself proud building this mate and it sounds well.

  • I really like the translucent green fascia. Is this easy to do?

  • Yes its very easy,a company called "plasti-kote" do a glass spray, for spraying vases etc it comes in all colours,. i used this but built up layer after layer - till i had like 5 layers of the paint.

i practised first to get the spary even. good luck ! :-)

  • nice one , it's finally done !

  • Nice work me matey, expect to hear some acid madness in ur tunes soon eh.
