I think the ad is funny. As a resident of MD I like that they try to save the taxpayer money by getting people to file electronically which is cheaper than processing a paper form. Who cares if it is derivative, they are accountants not producers.
I had eFiled for several years through TurboTax. Last year I just entered the info myself to save $30. It was pretty easy and intuitive. I'll definitely be doing that again this week.
Regarding the commercial, the next time you need a band to do a song for a commercial, let me know! We've got a studio and pro musicians. Email should be in the profile.
This ad cost the Comptroller's office $0 to make. The photographer, editor, actors and props were all donated. We are pushing E-file right now because it saves the state (and ultimately taxpayers) millions. Since its inception in the early 1990s, electronic filing has saved the state roughly $14 million. Thank you for watching.
According to the AP article I read on it, it costs MD $1.98 to process a paper return and only $ 0.38 for a return filed electronically.. so small wonder that they'd be pushing for e-filing. btw, I gotta agree with imhere460 on the time and money put into making this video.. it's interesting though.
There's nothing like the arrogance of the political ruling class crassly violating copyright laws. But then again, you probably think the laws don't apply to you!
Why don't you google You-Tube to see how many people are doing parodies of this commercial before you go babbling off about the political ruling class, whatever that is.
The Comptroller's office has a choir. Our choir director's nephew did the narrating and the singer you hear in the backround if from our Compliance Dept.

Haha. It definitely made me chuckle and that's supposed to be the point.

I don't understand why everyone is hating on the simple fact the state of Maryland is ahead of everyone else.
Daaang, all they trying to do is get people to file online. Why criticize like it's a feature movie presentation.

Derivative. Boring. Stupid. Another three reasons not to visit Baltimore.

Your comment makes no sense.

A derivative commercial and a poorly executed one at that. Yet another reason to avoid the city of Baltimore.

I would agree, but the Comptroller's office is in Annapolis.

On par with cash4gold, except its probably not scamming people out of their money.
I love sxephil's view on it though.

I wonder how much it cost to make that video, since Maryland is about 2 billion in the hole.
Maybe you get your refund back a little faster by eFile, but filling out the Maryland paper tax form is no big deal if you have half a brain.

From the looks (and sound) of it, about $5 (for the torn papers) and 1 hours worth of time.
