  • if Carlos Santana and buckethead had a son.

  • His choice of notes are superb.

  • @jabyers83

    @hackie321

    namaste

"the opinion" of an audience member CAN "shackle them" to ignorance...

close your eyes, and think of the PERSON making the music, rather than "your selfish opinion"...

by default, YOU have made that musicians skills and that particular composition into something "distasteful"... YOU have made the composer/performer and the song they played FOR you, into "an insult"....

free yourself from judging, and enjoy more of each musician's contributions...

  • At last it was like ORGASM :D

  • jimmy page of sitar!.. got the looks and the groove too :)

  • pirates of the carribeans!

  • Why do Niladri Kumar has to do all this?!! I am an earnest fan of him and have supposed to known him at a difficult level of music.Shocking to see this.Seems like I am seeing another hard rock, heavy metal video.Fusion stuffs like 'yoga lounge' have their charm. But this unnecessary. Anyways, someone was talking about Iris Peg.May I ask what has Iris Peg to do with Classical Sitar playing?? I suppose its a song with modern day western score.

  • @hackie321 why can't the man play what he wants?

  • oh my god

  • He should've been there at the CWG opening ceremony!!

  • @invincibleparv FYI he was at the closing ceremony... man i hope he wud've done a solo...

  • @TheMetalcrackhead Shit, are you serious? :O

I had tickets to the ceremony but didn't go because I had an exam the other day. FML

  • i don't argue in comments about stuff like a lot of people do. it's a waste of time. this guy is talented, this music can be entertaining... but it is not Hindustani Classical music... so anyone who may not be familiar with what kind of music is normally played on the sitar needs to check out real Indian Classical music.... please, it's so much deeper than this (in my OPINION)... remember everyone, we are expressing our opinions here, no one is right or wrong. cheers

  • @jabyers83 Niladri Kumar performed at Bangalore in September. I attended that concert. Pt. Jasraj ji was there. Since you are talking abt classical music, I am assuming you know who he is. He said, "Jisne bhi Pt. Ravishankar ko jawani mein bajate hue nahi suna hai voh Niladri Kumar ko sun le"

You want to say anything else.. and yaa in that concert Niladri played classical as well..

  • @govilh, I well aware of the master vocalist Pt. Jasraj. However, I do not speak/read hindi so I'm not sure what it is he said... I'm assuming something about how Ravi Shankar and Niladri Kumar of the same caliber. Well, whatever he said, I'm sure it was wise and kind. I hope you didn't take what I said personally or as an attack. A lot of people in forums and comment sections sometimes do. Just want to let you know that I was not trying to attack Niladri as an artist or anything...

  • @govilh ..... I was merely expressing my opinion that what he is playing in this video might be based on the classical Hindustani tradition but it is not an example of that pure traditional style (ie. Raag). Any fusion artist needs to be proficient in their native musical language before mixing it with anything else and I know most Indian musicians are compassionate to this idea. So I'm sure he studied many years in the traditional guru-shishya style in order to do what he's doing....

  • @govilh .... it's not raga, it's not classical Indian music... and I was expressing that... hoping to enlighten anyone who though that it was. Thanks and sorry for any offense even after my disclaimer of mere opinionating.

  • @govilh : No one is disputing Niladri's talent. I assume he played classical music alone in that concert? Now why can someone not prefer classical music to this kind of experimental stuff? I expect Pandit Jasraj himself does.

Or are you aware of Pandit Jasraj's opinion on this sort of "fusion" to the contrary? If you do, why not share it and enlighten us?

  • @dams0001 No in that concert he did not play classical music alone.. He only played one classical music piece. Pt. Jasraj said those line before the start of concert and Niladri Kumar started the concert with fusion music.

This video is by Asia Electric and not that good.. If you ever get a chance to listen to Sitar Funk, please attend it you will get enlightened.

  • @jabyers83 It cant be more true than what you said. Why do Niladri Kumar has to do all this?!! I am an earnest fan of him and have supposed to known him at a difficult level of music.Shocking to see this.Seems like I am seeing another hard rock, heavy metal video.Fusion stuffs like 'yoga lounge' have their charm. But this unnecessary.

  • @jabyers83 he play classical at its best. But that does not means he should always play classical . i hope you got my point ;)

  • @jabyers83 I agree with you, but I don't think that's really disputed. Think about the guitar. It is an old instrument, hell, the name guitar is derived from the ancient Greek instrument the kithara. It has been around for a long time, and features in many classical musical pieces. Those pieces are of course much deeper and much better than folk or pop musical pieces. However, folk and pop aren't necessarily meant to be deep, and yet they are still very enjoyable. I support the sitar's use too.

  • @jabyers83 Yes, but who told u this is Hindustani Classical? Chill, this isnt :)

  • @MyNameIsHitz Sorry for any confusion, nobody told me, but it seems like a lot of people viewing and/or leaving comments are under the impression this is the classical music of India. And don't worry, I am quite chill sir.

  • have a shit on the faces of those who r abusing this talent.....

    he is awesome .........

  • is this guy playing the instrument he created the "Zitar"???

  • flamencogfullofshit

  • u guys are right this guy is no satriani or page. but as far as the sitar is concerned it was invented much b4 the guitar and u cant compare the 2. the guitar benig nwer is easier to play than the sitar wen compared. and watsit got to do with indians i dnt understand, u guys r so screwed up in the head with ur self proclamation and arrogance, im pretty sure the losers im referring to have done nthn for their countries to feel so proud about it.

  • Does this song have a name?

  • @fudejinsu Believe it or not...the tune from 2:30 onwards is a devotional song made famous by Mahatma Gandhi.....and this in my opinion is the most awesome version of it!...:))

  • whoever thinks this is a bad video should get a life! this is talent, u cant limit a musician....he's using some amazing techniques here...if u cant understand the music, go to another video

  • Wonderful,bravo!

  • This is not Indian Classical music. This bufoon tried to play a nursery rhyme within a Bhairavi once and was banned from ever being invited to perform for us. he needs to get his testosterone under control.

  • @wazapora hey, thanks for your input here... I made a recent comment similar to your's and felt sort of under attack by the poster of this video just for expressing my opinion that this is not classical Indian music (but definitely a talented player). My comments are currently the most recent if you want to read them. I seriously hate how people argue and attack each other and use profanity on these comment sections so I'm not trying to start anything. Just nice that someone else has my opinion.

  • NK is a wonderful and amazing sitarist, I agree however that this vid is ridiculous.....what is he doing?

  • electric sitar is no innovation...it sounds same like an electric guitar...rather i would prefer an electric guitar...which sounds more than awesome!!!!! whts the point if a sitar is loosing its own sound n imitating an electric guitar!!!!!

  • @flamencog Its Evident tat u hate this guy n hold some eternal grudge against him u say tat u don like him but u've seen each of his videos he must have damaged some part of ur body to deserve this hate ur ears or probably ur fu**ed up thwab of a brain u must be some estranged lover whom he betrayed coz u sure act like one jus coz he's trying something new n hes not conventional u talk of big ppl like zakhir im sure uve neva heard nebody n tat ur deaf so i completely dedicate this to u my deaf

  • another one malmsteen

  • Comment removed

  • yeah !!! Iris Peg from Priority is out of this world.. search for this song on youtube..

  • so awesome. TWO GIANTS!

  • Cool... Fantastic music..!! nilandri and sivamani rocks !!!!

  • I Think It's Crazy How So Many People Out There Are So Afraid To Break Out That Box Your In.. This GUy Rocks.. No Different Than Anyone Else Picking Up A Guitar Or Bass Guitar Or Drumsticks Or Whatever And Shreddin The Shit Out Of It.. "This sucks" "Horrible" Remarks By People Who Are So Beat Down By Society, Afraid To Explore Their Limits

  • This guy is awesome, I'm surprised some of the comments here are really critical. I guess some people are just hung up on sitar-playing conventions; I love his innovations!

  • @psychedelicshack ~ Difference between innovation and simple Computer tricks like a Boss effects pedal. Why not go listen to Steve Vai or Yngvie Malmsteen. They actually play the guitar ~ chin rest time

  • Horrible music

  • well just becuase the Synth Trumpets will never compliment an overdriven Sitar doesnt mean its horrible, just an unwise combo

  • Still it is horrible music whatever you say.

  • go get a life. if u dont like it then dnt listen to it. simple as tht.

    i think he effin rocks!

  • THIS IS SICK! This Carlos Santana's Indian Brother!

  • yeah if Santana could shred, hes deffinitly more legato

  • jus awesome..music

  • he is awesome. I have seen him play both fusion and classical concerts and he is brilliant in both. I also had the pleasure of meeting him. Just because he is doing something different doesn't mean he is any less of a fantastic sitar player.

  • this is really sillly! I had such a respect for him till I heard this..

  • i know thıs ıs modernn thıs ıs neww yes ...

but what ıs the dress , ???? thıs consertt ??? thıs ıs not ındıan classic music...niladrii PLEASEEEE

  • wellycann - I do not see anything that says this is ICM. Obviously this is not a raga. He is using the sitar to play something other than ICM. It is his choice to do so, no?

  • I'm surprised his sitar doesn't explode!! He should do some Iron Maiden covers, that would be badass metal sitar style!!

  • wikid!!!!

  • man this dude is fuckin sick man!!!!

  • just get a fukn guitar

  • there were some rock and metal riffs in there it sounded sic!!!

  • great ,

  • OMFG!!! I can't believe this guy!!!! He FUCKING OOOOOOWNS!!!!!!!!! This is BANANASSSS CRAZZZZYZ!!!!!!

    HOLY SHIT! lol AWESOMENESS!!!

  • good

  • le roi d'la branlette

  • he looks like the india yngwie malmsteen ahahha but this is awsome i love it

  • the indian jimi hendrix. all he needs to do now is play it with his teeth!

  • please ensure regular dental flossing and brush teeth at least twice a day to play guitar/sitar with teeth.

  • Jesus everyone is writing so goddamn much!

  • awesome niladri... respect

  • he is an amazing classical sitarist and his musical interests have taken him to a new genre. Who is anyone here to criticize an artist who has performed and has the the respect of Ustad Zakir Hussein.

  • The problem is that it doesn't even sound like a sitar. It sounds like a guitar.

  • damn...y is he not playing an electric guitar instead....this music doesnt make any sense on a sitar.....

  • Interesting experiment, wonder if it will catch on. So is it the fuzz effect that gives it that heavy metal guitar sound? Cause I cannot hear much Sitar sound in it. I suppose its a Zitar and not a Sitar!!

  • This a joke. This sitarist needs to rethink this through, th electic sitar is a foolish idea. Why make the sound more mettalic? You can't even hear the gourd, nor the acoustic embellisment the wood in jawari produces. He could be dooing the same thing on an electic guitar, where it would sound and most important be easier on the eyes. A sitar should not be treated this way. Innovations are a joke unless they have merit.

  • dude, dont criticise if you cant understand music. for starters this guy is a GURU in Indian classical music and plays the sitar very well (ive seen him do it). music is all about self expression and what's wrong if you want to express yourself through a new sound. most guys here are so hung up about it sounding like a electric guitar, that they are not willing to look beyond the instrument and appreciate his talent and effort

  • I've heard him live on acoustic sitar, and I do appreciate his talent. There is nothing wrong with wanting to express yourself through a new sound. But when the sound you have does not do the music or your talent justice then it is only natural for some listeners to be turned off. Secondly as far as this so called instrument, the beauty of the sitar has been destroyed.

  • Try different things, but guy of his calibre should focus on the beauty of the music and this kind of trying with electric sitars looses the beauty, that's what the problem is

  • u shud listen to the song priority. get over ur hang ups n open ur mind. the electric sitar is an awesoem innovation. i love the fact tht he is giving newer dimensions to indian music. i agree i am no great expert on icm but innovation always helps. he is in my opinion giving a new breath of life to indian music as a whole (not just icm), a genre tht has been shackled by tradition n the same repetitive n redundant stuff.

  • ICM? same repeatative and redundant stuff ? and you think he is giving a newer dimension to indian music ? he he !! no comments .... :) :)

  • u r right pearl...this is just some random shit which has no musical brilliance...only some crazy blindfolded non musical background indians may follow this idiotic non musical niladri kumar...

  • someone must have drilled ur ears n melt ur brain wid acid if u think this guy is bad u've commented on each of his videos ur absolutely obsessed wid him n u constantly try to tarnish his image u shud be sued for hate crime or atleast banned for commenting wid ur bloated dung brain hell even if i dont say nething n leave this blank i can humiliate u

  • plz guys ignore this bums comments he's surely some mentally challenged piece n wants to tarnish niladris image all reall fans plz listen n if u really like him plz post a reply "(my user name)"

  • complete GARBAGE!!! period!

  • you have no clue what music is all about. fo

  • I'm all about innovations and I'm all about fusion music. I'm not sure what I'm listening to here. For me the greatest beauty of the sitar is the amazing bends (meed) that the instrument can do. I hear none of that here. I just hear what sounds like the Halo theme music. I think Anoushka Shankar is much more successful in her attempts at fusion.

  • It would be great if you can post his classical recording also if you have one. I have heard his father who was also very good sitarist.

  • he has an album with kaunsi kanada....its amazing

also a bilaskhani todi which is hard to find

  • Glad these guys bring up the values of instrumentals up. Badly needed for the country so hung up on vocalist worship! Nothing wrong with that, but what sucks is people consider music instruments just as a backing or accompanying sound!

  • namaste,

    great!!!!

  • just earfull...

    niladri ji you are great.

  • Completley agree daz ;-) Forgive me if wording is off, but I think how he does the meend technique on the sitar is stunning and breathtaking. He definatley has his own unique sound...and and huge amount of talent. Hear him playing some of "Salute to Tradition" at the end? awesome!

  • niladri is the best sitarist today, behind shahid parvez, in my opinion :)
