  • 2:13 "pow" right in the kisser!

    -Peter Griffin

  • ALSO, this move was not developed by Bruce Lee and isn't an exclusive JKD technique. It's something he learned and taught but was never described as a move made for JKD. It's a Kung Fu technique. Why did you insist on throwing around Bruce Lee's name? Idiot.

  • NO NO NO ITS ALL WRONG UR GONNA GET A BLACK EYE

  • 1:29-1:31 haha

  • you should block with your forearm, not your hand. or else you still get hit in the face.

  • Comment removed

  • It's Star TREK... not Star Track.

  • NEVER NEVER NEVER BLOCK WITH A FLAT PALM !!!! unless you hate playing the piano and you want to break your hand

  • this is basically TKD with a J

  • lol at his counter atk

  • basically, its a parry, just move your head back before it reaches you and bite it once it stops.

  • Wait, but when your hand absorbs the punch wouldn't it move towards your face? If your hand is right in front of your face you're gonna get hit anyways except it's with your own hand??

  • @makeupgeek210 Exactly...

  • @makeupgeek210 itll ubsorb 70% of the force...

  • Yh of course the best thing to do when someones about to punch you in the face, is to put your hand over your face and straight jab randomly, =L

  • That's wrong. You parry by slipping your hand out and pushing with the palm, which in turn moves his hand in the direction of your palm. From there you can do what you want. You dont create a wall with your hand to take the punch.

  • many boxers do this also

  • so you grab his hand?

    thats genius -.-

  • Its a wing chun thing not jeet kune do. Bruce took alot of wing chun and updated it to fit jeet kune do, but in reality it's just wing chun. Your right (rtbaer06) this is an old chinese method. Watch ip man2 and you will see this alot

  • hmm... I don't like it. From what i've seen from Tim Tackett. You would stike first then parry. either reading the opponents emotional or natural tendencies. this is a good technique though. he talks about JKD evolving but this is an old chinese method

  • 242 people could not block a punch!

  • Blocking it looks just too painful

  • you can't just catch a full-force punch in your palm and counter attack at the same time

  • Jeet Kune Do, the "styleless style". Bruce Lee's invention to break away from standard styles and art's. Like Bruce said, "...One person made a doctrine on fighting, then other person, then it became the gospel truth..." He wanted to break away from that. And now Jeet Kune Do, even before Bruce died, became a standard martial art with Bruce's doctrines becoming "The gospel truth" on how to fight. It's the same with everything else: BJJ, Karate, JKD, TKD, Boxing. All the same.

  • gi + jkd, interesting combo

  • @omar5073 LOL if you face is behind your hand then someone is punching your hand YOU ARE GOING TO GET HIT so yeah

  • your cool

  • it looks overwhelming but once you practic a couple of times its so easy

,,,,,,wheather you think you can or you cant your right HENRY FORD,,,,,,,,

  • i meant to say punch* :)

  • haha ive always thought if u wanted to knock a guy out u ounch him straight through his jaw or punch his tempple (i have no clue how to spell temple)...

  • u mug what r u talking about his punch would hit your hand and would smack your head u cant generate enough stoping power in that short space also u cant meet power with power this guy dont no what he is trying to explain he made it up as he went through

  • what if the person has the sharp points on the gloves?

  • whaaaat....??? klingons?? hahaha... good one sifu!

  • jajajajajajajaj try that on a street fight ....come back and tell me if it worked lol

  • that block is NOT going to stop nothing if you put your hand if front of the punch and your face is behind your hand you are going to get hit 1:36 dont do that hahahahhahah

  • @Gohanbryson what are you talking about it will stop a punch i seen muhamed ali practice punching the hands

of some guy behind the scencs and that guy was smiling and his hands didnt even move back more than an inch

  • that's the worst freaking block I've ever seen.

  • You shouldn't be trying to catch the knuckles.

  • No I do not know much about Jeet Kune Do techniques, however I am familiar with the palm catch, I agree with the fact that you'd probly do not want to catch the punch a full extension, breaking your hand is probly a lot better than getting in the face. Having said that, catching a strike is like catching a baseball, you want to catch it in the pocket of your hand, your palm should be making contact with fingers of the fist, and then allowing your fingers to wrap around the rest of the hand.

  • Haha, this is hilarious inaccurate as a JKD / Wing Chun concept. First of all this dude is wearing a Gi, which indicates a karate background. Why would open-palm block a straight punch at its full extension? You're asking to get your hand broken and the force required to block like that is way too much. A simple wing-arm style deflect & counter is much more practical in the situation. He can't even pronounce Jeet Kune Do correctly each time.

  • the 226 people who disliked this is beacuse they proberly tryed this and got the ass kicked

  • Blocking and striking at the same time is Wing chun in which Bruce incorporated into Jeet Kune Do. If you leaned back, that straight punch would be less affective.

  • i think he cant counter shit ,, please punch him for real to see if he can block or not !!

  • His belly hanging

  • i could beat ur ass and still have hair to walk away with

  • you say there's no point of blocking a punch if it won't hit you, but then you taught us how to block his punch that was nowhere near you...RIGHT

  • this man is stupid

  • But he doesn't even punch properly o_o You make realistic people sad.

  • lol 0.50 auto tuned voice haha! :D

  • yea I don't care about the history lets get to fighting lol

  • Devil's double fock off

  • I think blocking an attack is very overrated for self-defense. Footwork is a much better solution, if i stand there and punch you, you are not gonna block if you're not ready.

During a threatening confrontation, you want to get in and close, and deliver the first punch, then get the hell out of there as fast as possible. Technique doesn't matter, aslong as it's faster and powerful. Technique only comes in if a fight actually starts. But street fights only last anywhere from 1-30 seconds tops.

  • how does one block a cheeseburger ?

  • ITS NOT A SYSTEM BUT A CONCEPT... nooooooob

  • @63wwefan

Hahahhaha.. You don't have a right to speak about a man who was incredible in martial arts..

    Why? You watch WWE! lol

  • @63wwefan lol, in your dreams man

  • lol it doesnt go that way in normal speed...

  • @Jakee9822 no, but if you can do the technique it's just make it a reflex and its done

    Sorry for very bad english

  • This is boxing 101...parry and counter

  • lol POW!

  • Video starts at 2:07

  • im sorry but this is jus.....no jus no....this is terrible...ur form is awful!!!

  • and then Your own hand will slap u

  • @ChIvAfLoW well said

  • why dont u try doing some of this in real time..not slo-mo

  • 1:28 "if i'm forced to block using a cheat- *cough cough* jeet kune do concept"

haha been playing one too many video games?

  • Well, all that I can say in honesty is that we could all do that if we knew what the attack was and where the attack was coming from! I have a great pal whom I "play with,(Aikido) if I tell him my intentions he gets me, if I don't I always get him, Always fun of course!

  • thanks

  • Comment removed

  • I blocked alot of punches using my hand like this and I never slapped myself...

  • i think i'd rather block and move the guys punch away from me then try to catch it infront of my face lol

  • This way will just make you punched by your proper hand.

  • worst teacher in the world

  • BS

  • those adds are geting more annoying.

  • One word. Rogaine.

  • hahaa, payback. i will get. i said evily.ahhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

  • Chuck Norris Mastered Jeet Kun Do

  • i don't understand why star trek is important in this video

  • ...this is useful if you get attacked by a midget

  • the guy in white's arm is so short

  • My dog literally could've told me this.

  • why did he bring star trek into it

  • the guy in the blue looks like a bald Will Farrel

  • @jwatlow666 WILL FARELL! THANK YOU.

  • @jwatlow666 holy shit yh!

  • he looks like the guy from will it blend

  • I dislike keyboard warriors as well, obviously there are multiple ways to defend against an attack. This is just one, where he would actually be able to throw a full powered punch while taking minimal damage. If you reach out for a parry, the guy isn't close enough for an instant counter with full power. The technique shown here may not be very effective against someone much larger than you though.

  • @Devinbatteryd or knows how to punch

  • Comment removed

  • I shouldn't have come off so spiteful in my previous comment, it only adds to the hate. I just despise all the (mostly ignorant) whining so many video comments have from those claiming expertship behind a keyboard.

    I apologize for my insult.

What I should've typed is, if you turn around and see a punch coming with your hands up, it's quick and simple to try and meet the opponents hand with your own to try and parry it or slow it down, giving you time to evade or counter or whatever you wish.

  • Look at the keyboard warriors showing off their ignorant wisdom.

The point of a block is protecting yourself when you can't evade. It's infinitely better to get your backhand slammed into your face as opposed to the other guy's knuckles. If you see the hit coming, evade. If you don't, block and, as is the point of the video, counter at the same time. Unless you have trees for arms, you're not gonna stop the hit, just protect your body the best you can with your guard while striking back.

  • martial arts tips: how to knock yourself out with your own hand.

also, there prolly is, but i cant think of a scenario where u HAVE to block

  • The other guy looks much stronger. Thumbs up if you'll never try this in a real situation

  • Isn't this the guy from the price is right ? Because he talks like a gameshow host.

    And his JKD sucks.

  • straight punch is a punch a punch is a punch a straight is a punch a punch is a punch

  • cool guy

  • HHAHHAHAHA,..,.,THAT GUY SUCKS.,.,.,c

  • but what if he blocks your counter? then what?

  • @michalman21 The fight goes on.

  • @chanel6548 and dont you have better stuff to do rather than argue with me if you say your graduating?

  • @TheDudecof funny, i was about to ask you the same thing, except the graduation part, by the way: i don't graduate until friday.

  • @chanel6548 mine is different cuz im graduating from 8th grade so i dont have as much stuff.

  • @TheDudecof if my parents are gay then how come my dad is a man and he is married with my female mom? explain that asshole.

  • @chanel6548 your original parents didnt want you so you got adopted by some random people

  • @TheDudecof what a baby, did you have a temper tantrum

  • @chanel6548 your parents are gay dumbass

  • the man is right ...just listen his tips and enjoy the video ! peace out!

  • @TheDudecof i'll comment back when ever i feel like it, you little prick.

  • @chanel6548 Im not gonna argue cuz its not possible to win against dumbfucks like yourself

  • @TheDudecof hmm... lets see, im really close to graduating high school and you still have years left until you graduate, im pretty sure im smarter then you are, so if anybody here is a dumb ass, its you.

  • @chanel6548 ok you know what? Practice this with your friends, tell them to punch you as hard as they can and do this move. Im done

  • just learn muay thai 4 seld defence your body becomes rock solid afta a bit n its so easy 2 floor some1

  • @TheDudecof oh ps. I saw your page, and your backround is weed so you were probably high while trying to argue with me

  • @TheDudecof hmmm... who should i believe more, an older and more mature guy who seems to know what hes doing or some stupid 12 year old kid who acts like a stupid 12 year old kid.... wow that's really hard to decide (sarcasm).

  • what's so bad about this video? you should know how to defend yourself. if y'all think you can beat people up without this don't watch it!!!!

  • He is my dad

  • When you parry, you should reach out a bit to strengthen your parry.

  • Comment removed

  • that was not helpful, you never want to block a punch that close to your face, when at all possible step out of the line of attack or parry.

  • this was very helpful. never extend your hands out to block a punch. It will take you off balance and leave you completely open to attack. Boxers use a similar technique, albeit with the forearm and elbow rather than the palm.

Strike first, strike hard, no mercy!

  • american tips....

  • this is real, but it only works against experienced sport fighters. sport fighters stop their punch after some contact, so you're tricking them into not giving you their full punch.

a random (strong) opponent from the streets would have just punched him with his own hand

  • haha i hope youre not serious either

  • @trentinium it is true actually. This guy is a poor instructor, that's why it looks like a ridiculous idea. The one time he does it naturally you can see that he actually knows how to use it. You actually DO reach out a bit and gradually slow down the hand of the opponent, hoping he gives up before reaching your face.

There are much better ways to avoid or deflect an attack, but you may still see it used in championships, because of the sheltered nature of many karate schools

  • good now why dont you do that at real speed noob!

  • if this is Jeet Kun Do why are they wearing Karate gis?

  • this is horrible

  • you counter attack a guy who's reach is 12 inches smaller than yours.... big deal

  • That was great except how do I know if his fist will make contact? How do I know how far I should move my head and in what direction? What if he's faster than me? What if my strikes on his body doesn't hurt him because he's stronger than me? My instructor says that for every move, you need to practice it 500 times.

  • lol?

  • @WilhtexHD ,yeah Bruce did block like this

  • @WilhtexHD ,no this is right, this is called the stop-hit from JKD,which means parry and hit simultaneously

  • they have different styles of blocking and tbh i got into a fight and i did use this... well the punch still hurt so i'll just keep this short and simple... this SUCKS! there are better ways to defend yourself and counter attack a straight punch without actually taking the hit!

  • THIS IS GARBAGE.. WATCH BAS RUTTEN'S VIDEOS INSTEAD

  • THAT OLD MANS HACKING ! KICK HIM

  • JAHJhajAH THATS RIGHT......completely useless (i´ve 6 years of shoryn ryu)

  • JAHJhajAH THATS RIGHT......completely useless

  • another mcdojo!!

  • I would kick this guy's ass...

  • no no NO

  • what if the klingon has his phasers on kill?

  • if this happens for real you'd still get punched and why you're at it why not get a broken hand as well XD

  • Inner outer block, outer block , inner block, thats wat u want to do when a straight punch comes at you

  • ok, if i step into a fight with a guy that can throw 500kg of a punch at 80km/h means i should BLOCK his punch??? LOL!

i've been in a few fights (legal, kickboxing, not street fights) with some ppl that are begginners and cant even hit for a KO. i soon realized i cant block even that kind of jab. a weak one. then, once you get hit for a KO with a stronger jab, you will NEVER try to block someones flying fist again. learn how to parry and slip punches. screw this vid.

  • its funny how he doesnt do it in real time what an idiot

  • thats it, Whenever i see an add.. im never purchasing that product..

  • @TheWeedman22213

    the best comment ever

  • @TheWeedman22213 So I can't purchase the national guard?

  • @TheWeedman22213 LOL dude I was thinking the same thing

  • there are two reason this can be success 1. the other guys hand gotta be shorter than your hand @_@ 2 He must be weaker than you. if there are none of these reason in it you can barely move your other hand or major lose ^_^

  • he compared martial arts to star trek wtf -_-

  • woah, the guy in the white has TINY hands :O

  • next hes gonna say to block a nutshot put your boner in the way,

  • next hes gonna say to block a nutshot put your boner in the way,

  • actually ynoe sth.. its gt to do with you... how you execute the move.. if youve been in a tounramnet fight or training for such youll realize that youre never gna be fast enough to fully doge or block a punch.. by just putting your hand infrnnt o f your face and absorbing the punch you actually have a lot of options.. like for example did you know if the guy threw you a hook youd still be blocking with your hand covering your face.. youre just gna absorb teh hit and itll feel different..

  • captain kirk should go back to his space-bitchin

  • I'm sorry, with all due respect. If I notice someone has their hands that close to their face, I punch their hand into their face. I like to hold my hands in a Muay Thai manner in order to have more time to block. Meaning hands forward. Even if i miss the initial parry, I still have time to make contact. You should check my very primitive and awkward videos at Changtzu63. :) I'm no Martial Artist. I'm just a fighter.

  • RE: 1st in last out comment. . . . I do not spar for fun or recreation. I have been sucker-punched twice, and since the last time I have been determined to strike an attacker before he get his fist or weapon "loaded". I don't believe in killing except as a last resort (multiple attackers).

  • this will never ever work..

  • ridiculous. hahhaa

  • Worst technique ever

  • most garbage karate teacher

  • damn you suck

  • LOL that is hopeless!!!

  • @ beefechunkybee to practice do slow counter block so u can i practice Istunka Somali martial art predates back in the early time to learn first do slow counter blocking then u learn practice make everything easy so just practice and go to martial art classes it will be easy for u then good luck

  • Or... how about a normal block and then your not even in the WAY OF THE PUNCH. We're not Jackie Chan.

  • @10000DL what if someone knows Kung Fu just saying
