i love her smile ---such a warm smile after singing! its very infectious! i like artists who can not take themselves too seriously... they are singing for goodness sake!:-)
I know I'll get daggers for this...but. I thought it was terrible, her singing/coloratura is nothing but tension, you can both see it and hear it in her voice. It was screamed practically, with unnecessarily modified vowels in the middle voice. I know three people who have seen her, they said she had to have a mic because they couldn't hear her past the fifth row. That's not true resonance. I believe she's a pushed down soprano. This is harsh, but I'm being honest. Sorry guys.
The description is not correct . THIS IS the rehersale of the Gala Concert in Salzburg on 26 January 2006 (the day before the 250 birth anniversary). I was there to listen to the concert by Muti and Wiener Philarmoniker.... The mezzosoprano invited, Reneè Fleming, refused few days before advising to be not in condition to sing the music by Mozart so they were forced to call a substitute: Ms. Cecilia Bartoli.. with a very worm welcome from everybody. It was un unforgattable evening.
LOL.. I think the YEAH is cause of her accent.... ??.. the YEAH is soo funny to me.. but I still love the performance!!.. She's absolutely delightful!
Although Cecilia Bartoli is a great singer, to be honest, Exultate Junilate is not made for a voice like hers, it's made for leggero soprano. A voice like Bartoli's makes it sound so heavy...Agilities are perfect, but in general sounds heavy and flat.
why should it be light??? ... I like Kiri Te kanawa's version ..but this is powerful and uplifting in a way ive not heard any other singer manage! why shouldn't she blast the heavens in exultation lol ...she's Brill!!!!!
99.99% of the singers treat this piece as a coloratura showoff. But not our dear Ceci. This thing is about joy, about happiness, about praising the Lord who created us. I thinks she hits the spot.
quite right I made a similar comment earlier... she loves singing ..so many want to "be seen as the best" or as you say ..show off look at what I can do im so special Cecilia b has charm and sing from the heart ... and not bad at it either ;-) she just brill.......!!!!
@lalagonegaga Well, I feel most people treat it that way because coloratura is not a common part of many people's operatic training anymore. So instead of it being used as a vehicle for a specific emotion set, it is used as a "look what I can do" issue. This is why all of my students learn agility early and often.

I was laughing my first round though cause of the funny way she pronunces the last "a" vowel in over half of the "allelujas". Its like closer to eh, ae or even oe than a. Great job though. :)
exactly...... try singing like that with a STRAIGHT face ..now that WOULD be funny.... the expressions come through every pore!! and aren't we lucky for it!!... she's fantastic!!!
..I LOVE Cecilia Bartoli pure talent and personality combine "to the Nth degree" lol so many singers are SO!! BORING!!! ...either trying to hard or trying to pose! it's all about loving singing, no trying to get everyone to love you or think you're the best!!
I really don't get why people is so worry about her gestures,Cecilia Bartoli a wonderful singer she just let music go,every singer had a sing face, some sing faces r more histrionic than others, but her sound is perfect and that's what it counts in a opera singer,to sound good transmit and make the people shake, not a super model who can't sing a note
Completeley agree. You see it in her face, movements (bodily), and the way she just gets into it! One thing is having a good voice, but also getting into the music with passion makes it that much better!

Same thoughts. Why YEAH? It must be a bad mistake
Katigris 2 years ago
I suppose when you concentrate so much on getting amazing agility, the words don't seem quite so important, but I agree the 'yeah' is quite funny :P
LaFeeVerte1209 2 years ago
@coopandre Because in Italian like in Latin the JA in "halleluJA" sound similar to American YEAH.
Simple
Problably you often listen not Italian Singer to sing Italian/latin libretti.

I think her singing is the best, no matter her face and her gesture. All her face and her gesture are for the super quality she wants to render.
I am willing to have the ugliest face to sing a song my wife and my children can hear.

Why does she sing this Hallelujah like if it was in an opera???

you are corect the diction is a bit odd, takes away from the performance, of course the voice is still superb however.
