While I do love this movie, I feel they spent too much time adding scenes that weren't in the book, and not enough time to be authentic. The whole opening scene could have been used in conversation as it was in the book, which given good acting could have been an excellent opportunity for character development.

The story takes place during the beginning of WW2. What your looking at is the battle of Britain, where German bombers bombed London in an effort to lower Britain's moral. The Pevensie children were sent away like most children at that time to avoid them being killed in the raids. I hope that helps. If it was what you were looking for.

@Torur0A I think you'll find they DID! My grandparents house in the East End was bombed in one of their blitzes on civilians. Both sides did wrong during that war but only one side contained genocidal maniacs trying to annex the rest of Europe. That said, we've moved on.
