Le lecteur ne respecte pas la versification de Verlaine. Per exemple : Le e de pleure se prononce. Je ne comprends pas comment on peut à ce point passer à côté du rythme et donc de l’esthétique du poème.

Une époque ou en France il y avait des poetes , tels que Verlaine , Rimbaud et Baudelaire .Chaque periode a eu son poete , mais qu'en est il pour les annees 2000, a part Biolay , dont la seul grande oeuvre tant du point de vue de la poesie que de la musique fut "la superbe " ?

French is not my first or second language, but I understand it and I can speak, it is just that I am bad in grammar, anyway if there's something I don't understand I go to my dictionary... but I really hate when people write things like "nice voice but I don't know what he's saying" or things like "can someone translate"? OMG, nobody want to do an effort!!!, it happens too much in America....

@Wolfbane8 It means (generally) he's sick of life, for no apparent reason. He's identifying with the rain in the town and feeling like it's also "raining" in his heart. He can find no reason for his pain and that almost makes it worse (c'est bien la pire peine / de ne savoir porquoi -- it's the worst punishment or pain, not to know why)... Classic teen angst poem, in some ways, but it rises above that somehow.

@Wolfbane8 The poem takes full advantage (in fact it's built on it) of the similarity in French between the verb for 'to cry' (pleurer) and the verb for 'to rain' (pleuvoir). Pleuvoir, if I'm not mistaken, is only used in third person singular: 'il pleut' meaning it is raining. So instead of saying 'I'm crying' = 'je pleure', the poet says 'IL pleut dans mon coeur', creating a linguistic synchronicity between the crying he's experiencing 'in his heart' and the raining in the city.

@nounou1912 I have remembered a great deal of it (verses 1 and part of 2, and verse 4) since I learned it in French class at the age of about 20. That's 30 years. It's incantatory. It seems to mean so much more in French than the bare English translation can capture.
