i always respected and loved Taiwan. I really want to see Taiwan someday and i recently discovered Chthonic. I have never been a fan of black metal music and implementation of Asian musical folklore is pretty rare because most of the Asian folklore music doesn't fit heavy metal and rock standards but Chthnonic somehow has managed an amazing musical formula of extreme metal and Asian folklore music + history and mythology! This is so fkn awesome! Hail Chthonic! And all the best to Taiwan! \m/

The PRC's claim of owning Taiwan is based on bullying, verbosity, and fraud. Consider the Treaty of Taipei and Treaty of San Francisco. The PRC believes Taiwan is a PRC Province - a "renegade" Province, but part of China nevertheless. Quite an odd Province, one would think! This Taiwan "Province" has their own currency, elects their own leaders, enjoys freedom of the press, unfettered Internet access, and a significant level of prosperity. taiwan's constitution says taiwan is a part of china. Some taiwanese wants wants to reunites with mainland china (pro blues), some don't (pro greens). Different opinions should be respected but law is law, nobody is above it. right now the pro blues has a majority in congress so the pro greens don't have enough votes to change the constitutuion. to the pro greens: good luck in the next election, you are going to need it.

Taiwan's constitution is bullshit constitution imposed by the KMT when they fled to Taiwan like a bunch of chickens without head. It was forced on to Taiwanese people and was never formally accepted by Taiwanese. My feeling is that if the Chinese people in Taiwan love China so much, why don't they go the hell back to China. PRC has never ruled Taiwan. Chiang Kai-Shek was allowed to come to Taiwan for his refuge. The 23 million people on the island deserve the rights of self-determination and the rights of what name they want to be called. ROC is dead, and do not use this stinky name to label Taiwan. The fact is that you can't go to Taiwan if you don't have visa issued by Taiwan. Try to get it from China; then you will be stuck in the airport--- going nowhere no matter how loud China claims Taiwan.

taiwan is already represented in the UN by republic of China, which is a founding member of UN. In the UN chapter ROC is still the permanent security council member. ROC's seat is now transfered to the new China, as well as representation of taiwan in international organizations. For example if there is a health crisis arise in taiwan or other local regions of China, WHO can go to taiwan to assist with the permission of the central government. This is the same procedure for all countries.

Yes, it is complicated, even inside taiwan, not to mention internationally. People in taiwan do not have a single voice over this matter. Some maintain that taiwan is a part of China (the pro blues), some do not (the pro greens). Only Aboriginals (about 2% of Taiwan's 23 million people) are true original inhabitants of Taiwan.  Min-nan & Hakka people who emigrated to Taiwan were originated from mainland. Their heritage traced back to China. The use of word "Chink" is an ethnic slur for a person of Chinese descent. This video ended with message of PEACE, yet some folks are creating hatred amongst people on the already small island and shamefully attempted to disassociate with their roots to support political views.

However, it infuriates me when a bunch of Chinese got kicked out of Mainland China due to their corruption and their incompetance. The ROC constitution says that they are part of China, because they used to be the government of China. They currently cannot change their constitution under military threat from China.

However, legally, neither the ROC nor the PRC has sovereignty over the Formosa (Taiwan) island.

The whole China/Taiwan situation is far too complicated to fully discuss here, but it is fascinating, and I encourage anyone interested to take a couple of hours and research the subject. Make up your own mind.

I don't know about what it says in the Republic of China (ROC) constitution. It may state that they are part of China, because they considered themselves the legitimate government of China (until 1991).

Taiwan is not a province of China, and has not been part of China since 1895.

The ROC is one of the five founding members of the UN, and was the official representative of China until the People's Republic of China (PRC) was recognized in 1971. They should have a seat in the UN.

In 1945, the U.S. occupied Taiwan during WWII and put the ROC in charge of administering the occupied territory.

In 1952, Japan signed a peace treaty relinquishing claim to Taiwan, but they did not give it to the PRC or the ROC.

Taiwan was never reunified with China in any official capacity, no mater what Chiang-kai Shek said in 1945. In 1945, Taiwan was a U.S. occupied part of Japan.

In international law, there are only a few ways that sovereignty changes. The primary way is through a peace treaty. Just because the ROC occupied the Taiwan island of Japan in 1945, didn't change the sovereignty of the island.  Until Japan signed the treaty giving up control of Taiwan, it was still part of Japan.

Since Japan gave up control of Taiwan without naming a recipient nation, Taiwan was never reunified with China.
