Nope, Landings with a heavy weight are the smoothest, As an example: an airplane at maximum landing weight, A cargo airplane completely empty; would have a rough and bumpy landings. I would venture to say that A380 is likely to be smooth; However auto lands are probably less smooth.

It was the case when I flew the A340, I could make 'hand flown' landings much smoother than automatic landings and I say that the fly-by-wire would be smoother.

As phenomenal as this magnificent plane is, kudos to airbus for their forward thinking and design, I will always be a bigger Boeing fan because my father worked for them. However, I do think that Airbus deserves as much respect for their innovative aircraft design and safety concerns. Both companies are equally awesome, but they have a different philosophy about how air traffic is going to proceed in the coming decades hence the different aircraft deigns. .

@12CustomTS If you notice engine number 2 between 1:10 and 1:14 has a space that the number 1 engine doesn't have. They opened it up to reverse thrust it. Hope it helps.

@1911Vule2011 because the wings are so wide and the engines are so far out that they actually over hang the runway and are over the grass area, if the engines were to reverse thrust they may kick up stuff on the grass and damage the engine or wing, this is the reason.

I worked for Airbus a few years ago and it's because the outer turbines would blow up and suck in all the grass and dirt beside the runway...the inner ones are right above the runway, the outers are too far off and may take damage while reverse thrust, so they decided to reverse only 2 ;-)
