  • @czechavailabilitie in a way that makes total sense, and in another way its completely stupid...idk how that's possible but...lol

  • "Prog is what happens when people who are really really talented musicians decide to show of how good they are by playing really really boring music"

  • Dedicated to the genus of Ayn Rand. DURRRR

  • Rush sucks

  • Nothing will ever compare to their art.

  • you'ev got to LESNNE to this

  • I refuse to visit the so called rock and roll hall of fame until the boys are inducted, at the same time it means noting to RUSH.

  • RUSH!! 'nuff said.

  • So is this is live audio cuz if it is it's damn close to the studio track!

  • Alex Lifeson was recognized as the 100 guitarists of all time this week.

  • @DC322 jack white was like 60 ahead of him. Guitar World hates Rush.

  • @sierpeman Alex is still the best guitarist.

  • Neil Peart is a great songwriter but a little weak in the Dendrology department. ;)

  • Saw them finaly! And WOW they rocked!!

  • if Id pick a song to represent the trees,it would be the trees

  • Eggs

  • The Holy Trinity.

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE RUSH!! this video so cool cause they all look so young!!(they were) lol The Concierto of rock n roll!!

  • FriendlyPopo_ learn somthing about music. its sad to see a person so bad oriented.

  • The best band in the whole world ever !!!....here in Lima, Perú, we are waiting so long for them. I´ll wait for them until I die. RUSH Is like listening a SYMPHONIC. So powerfull and also relaxed that makes music so fantastic !!! RUSH COME TO PERÚ.

  • be a tree for day

  • 37 people are prejudiced against the Maples.

  • Hey, this is the same audio as the vault edition :D

  • I don't care what anyone thinks, Rush is the best!!! and I love Geddy's voice. He's also THE best bass player of all time. There is nothing satanic about their music. However I do believe that FriendlyPopo IS gay and a DORK!!

  • this shit make me wanna punch a nun in the face. what is the reason for this satanic crap? it sounds like dolphin rape. Rush is gay. The who is gay. Zepplin is better. ACDC is better. Fuck any garage band on the planet is better than this dorky shit

  • @FriendlyPopo Obvious troll is obvious

  • @theamazingzivmaster hey man come on now im just speaking the truth

  • @FriendlyPopo Dood rush isnt satanic though at all

  • @FriendlyPopo I totally agree with you! Rush is obviously more Satanic than AC/DC. You thought Hells Bells was really really bad? Try listening to Rush's song Freewill! At least people know Satan is evil, and the band mates do bad stuff! Rush is a band of good people who use their lyrics to promote thinking for yourselves!

  • @MrTwistedHawk i kniw right? all these guys in Rushs ugly mugs make me wanna puke, and that voice! UGH This band is the shit of the earth.

  • @FriendlyPopo

You need to see a psychiatrist, urgently. You need help. And pity.

  • @FriendlyPopo Not sure what disturbs me more, your lack of knowledge and appreciation for talented musicians, or your obvious knowledge of dolphin rape...

No the fact that you have intimate knowledge of the sound of dolphin rape deeply disturbs me.

  • geddy's hair looks extra sexy here.

  • drumer kicks ass

  • MINDBLOWING

  • Rush rocks so hard! not 2 mention Neil Peart. he's such a wise old owl.

  • god the singer looks like a fag here. its long ago tho

  • @Zanazuah

takes one to know one...d-bag...go find a bieber video...you don't deserve to listen to music of this order

  • @Zanazuah whoa whoa whoa what disrespect o.o thats geddy lee we're talking about he always looked like that since 1972 or earlier, bet ur the only fag here

  • @ragnaroksama you cant deny the fact that he looks like a girly fag here tho

  • @Zanazuah wow :I no coments

  • @Zanazuah But most everyone in the 70's, male or female, had long hair. So, by that logic, you're calling EVERYONE who happened to have long hair a "girly fag".

  • LOOKS AND FEELS AND SOUDS LIKE 1978!!!!! RUSH!!!!!!!!!

  • @sarahluvsBC13 stop being such a narrow minded person. Actually try listening to the music and interpreting the lyrics. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people attack something they don't even give a chance. Sorry if that bothers you, but it's just "my opinion."

  • There's an endless amount of great tunes by Rush, but this one has always been my favorite

  • I photographed Rush in 75 and 77. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • The BEST power trio ever? OF COURSE!

  • @andreaneilcmc Do you like Triumph? Just curious.

  • @andreaneilcmc -actually the very best trio is the album 'SECRETS' by allan holdsworth. g'day eh!

(oaks-merovingians and french and english royalty) (maples- canada)

  • who cares about metal in a rush video? i love metal and i fucking love this song too, a real masterpiece

  • Oh good ol days of smoking weed and listening to rush

  • when they wrote this they must of thought it was something very special indeed, Alex Liefson doesn't do traditional guitar chords so it amazes me how he remembers all the intricacies of his play

  • I love how all Rush's songs have a different meaning-a deeper meaning. You can sit there for hours relistening untill you finally understand what they're talking about~I love that :) My roommate and I can sit there all day just jamming to Rush ^_^

  • @SarahLuvsBC13 Rush is great! You just need to open your ears. Some night listen to 2112 album in its entirety and tell me it doesn't rock.

  • @iscream22 Some night? About every other week.

  • Ewwww terrible music right here! And yet my parents torture me in the car to this shitty music!!!!!

  • @SarahLuvsBC13 Just checked your channel; that metal is pretty shitty too. ^^

  • @rotom223 no it's not! its way better then this shit! at least they dont sound like a fucking girl when they sing that it gets annoying.

  • @SarahLuvsBC13 Least this takes talent, and not screaming. I love metal as much as the next guy, but this is a masterpiece.

  • @rotom223 it takes talent for my type of music too with the screams, the insturments. This music is annoyng and old! i dont like it... i dont find it that great and its not even a masterpiece! m sorry, but thats just my opinion.

  • @SarahLuvsBC13 I suppose you're allowed to an opinion but i want to see one of your 'good' band's drummers play this or YYZ.

  • @SarahLuvsBC13 yes. your right. its your opinion, and no one can fuck with that. BUT KNOW THIS.... all the music you know today, came out of all the old classics. alternative came from grunge. grunge came from undergound punk. underground punk came from 80's rebellion music. (bands like kiss, and what not) and that came from 70's. and that came from the blues. it all evolved into something else. but put them together, and you get a family tree. :) thats just how i see it.

  • Rush don't 'conform' that's why

  • This makes me think of how hilarious it would be if the trees in my yard started screaming OPRESSION at the other trees :P

  • I totally agree

  • is this song in favour of communism or is it some civil rights thing? or is it literally about just forming unions?

  • @utdfortreble

This song is a parable against socialism / communism as is 2112.

Note the "acknowledgment to the genius of Ayn Rand" in the album text.

The parable is saying "If you object to the notion that some people do better than others due to having better personal gifts than others and if you demand that all be made equal... then the socialist solution is to cut down everyone to the lowest common denominator. All are made equal in abject poverty. Think Cuba, North Korea.

  • @utdfortreble

The closing phrase "...are all kept equal by hatchet, axe, and saw" is not a statement of advocacy. Its a warning of the consequence of socialist policies.

These dudes clearly read Atlas Shrugged and took the message to heart and into lyrics.

  • @ebrakus ok maybe. I can not say I agree with the message than.

  • @ebrakus I'm curious to know if Neil Peart would agree TODAY with the uses to which Ayn Rand's philosophy is put by American (and Canadian) libertarians. When you listen to the lyrics of Big Money, it seems evident that the kind of neofeudalism which is the natural end game of applied objectivism/libertarianism is not something that Neil would have any interest in seeing manifested in any country. Still love this song, though.

  • @bej144 Its a safe bet that Peart's philosophy evolved over time. Who's doesn't. Even if one is predisposed to Rand's philosophy, its absolutist and extreem. This philosophic simplicity appeals to youth, but age's wisdom appreciates the pragmatic necessity of a more complex flexible and accommodative world view.

In any case, what a lonely pleasure it was to listen to the smartest rock music ever written.

  • @ebrakus Thanks ebrakus: "Smartest rock music ever written". Right on brother! Truly the original thinking man's (and woman's) band!

  • @utdfortreble I'm pretty sure it's about the personification of trees and nothing else.

  • @AlbinosaurusRex

Right it wasn't an allegory. What does that word even mean?

  • is this song in favour of communism or is it some civil rights thing?

  • i love this song and won't forget the days i spent to learn the guitar parts and than

life became so much better concerning playing guitar !!!!

i love Rush and 33 ppl who dislike them can get their butts to Jusstin Beiber page !!!

    go go go !!!

  • what effect does geddy lee use in this song?

  • @vamborooolz Shut up.

  • Once I get the time machine built I'm going back to 1978, probably the best year in hard rock. Catch Rush on the Hemispheres Tour, AC/DC on the Powerage Tour, drop in on Thin Lizzy, Priest out touring Killing Machine. And the best for last.......UFO in Chicago and the Mid-West for the Strangers in the Night recordings. Need a flux capacitor though. Ebay?

  • @vamborooolz Van Halen released their first album in 1978 as well didn`t they? Peace Ye`all !

  • @auto4union

Yep, you're right, noticed you haven't got the almighty UFO in your prolfile. Go get 'em. Rock's best kept secret are Phil and the boys.

  • @vamborooolz Just not enough space for all the bands i`ve been/am into !! Micheal Schenker era UFO in particular(But thats probably `cos im a guitarist!) AWESOME band !! "Doctor,Doctor" was one of the first tunes i learned bro` !! Peace Ye`all !!

  • @vamborooolz you have just reminded me of 'some' of my highlights from '78 ;)

  • @vamborooolz Prices for flux capacitors on eBay are getting ridiculous. That's why I buy mine from Craigslist now.

  • @vamborooolz Can I come with? PLEASE???

  • @shelley9000

    Shelley....

'You can be the Captain and I will draw the chart'. Btw, did you know that UFO played Kenosha the night after Chicago and recorded the show as part of the recordings for 'Strangers In The Night'. One of the tracks appears as a bonus track on the remastered 'Obsession' (2008)

    UFO forever!!!!

  • @vamborooolz YES I DID!!!! One of my best friends was 11 and his sister had to babysit him; therefore brought him to Carthage Collage where they played...let's just say Billy made his way to the front and was CHANGED FOREVER!!! And I JUST discovered that about the remastered "Obsession" about a month ago...maybe I should place some orders tonight!!!

  • @vamborooolz !978? Don't forget Van Halen taking the whole music scene by storm and changing everything.

  • Neil - Before he become a GOD

  • In reference to FriendlyPopo, as an interest he lists going to peoples comments and making fun of them. Ignore the wee bastard, he gets off on people who get offended by what he says. I'm not sure if he is the one being teased in real life and takes it out on people on the internet because he doesn't have the testicular fortitude in real life. Or he is simply one of those that chooses a life of chaos. Either way, he is just a punk kid. Let the wee bastard slide. ;) OH and RUSH kicks ass.

  • @terlyn223 rush is gay.

  • @FriendlyPopo Trolls are gay.

  • @terlyn223 Well said. I shall use the phrase "testicular fortitude" in daily conversation for the next week. Hopefully it is applicable. : )

  • not in the music hall of fame? probably aren't 3 bands in the hall who could even play this song. No one can do what Neil peart does on drums or they would have.

  • @drvannozzun Big rush fan here. There was a band called Emerson Lake & Palmer. Check em out.

  • @scoobes11 Familiar with ELP ! Cant touch Rush sorry! Totally up there own arses and a Keys as the lead insrtument......!Heard much worse though!Peace Ye`all !!

  • @auto4union Those keys were brilliant thats all I can say!

  • @scoobes11 It`s been a long time right enough ! Maybe i should give them another listen ? Back then i was a lot more Guitarcentric...! They were huge so they must`ve been doing something right..! Take Care Bro` ! Peace Ye`all !!

  • Screw you friendlyPooPoo. Asshole

  • GAY

  • I will admit the first part the room they were in didn't have good acoustics to sing in

  • Getty Lee is a very unattractive woman.

    Lolz

  • I love Rush, it's hard to believe it's only 3 guys playing such great music!

  • i'm seeing rush on june 24th!

  • gay AF

  • @FriendlyPopo

    AF = Analog Flanger?

  • @FriendlyPopo fuck you

  • @FriendlyPopo fuck you we dont need more of your shitty comments

  • @FriendlyPopo

    you suck.

  • Yes beautiful. You're right nothing comes close. I was watching the Tom Sawyer video too - 6.3 MILLION views. Kinda says it all, doesn't it?

  • One thing i always liked about rush is the fact that they sound just as good live as they do on the album, rush doesn't need a recording studio to sound good they just need guitars and a hellavullalot of percussion instruments :)

  • LOVELY.

  • Do NOT try this @ home. (Or rather please only)

I was at the 1978 concert in MSG. My ears still ring with

    gladness without compare.

  • Why only 33 dislikes? There are much more idiots on our planet.

  • Does anyone know when this performance was? I have always liked Rush but just recently heard this song and fell in love with it.

  • @MagicPower118 The album itself came out in 1978, so probably close to that. FYI, if you love this, give the whole album Hemispheres a whirl, especially the first song Cygnus (18 minute beast). WOW.

  • This song really completes the world of music and meaningful lyrics in the age of rock music-Pink floyd is another thought provoking band, Awesome video!

    Thanx

  • <3

  • this is the only time the trees sounds good. and also Geddy lee inspires me. awesome!!!

  • you're stretching on a few of those buddy....

  • wow, discovered Rush.

    why is this song good?

    singing is terrible!

  • Rush is my favorite band no one can touch them when it comes to musical talents

  • @nicklopez168

Page.. Howe... Rabin... Squire... Jones... Bonham... Anderson... Plant... Gabriel... to name a few

  • @progrockr616 How about Emerson Lake & Palmer?!

  • Its like Manos Hatzidakis' Kemal...What a handsome singer by the way...::))))))

  • Its like Manos Hatzidakis' Kemal

  • Rush can play in 7/8 time flawlessly, and then switch to 4/4 without the common listener knowing! Example: Subdivisions. Rush has the best Bassist/Keyboardist/Vocalist, Guitarist, and Drummer/Songwriter. Alex's outstanding solos and riffs, Geddy's perfect bass riffs, and Neil's amazing beats! Why the hell aren't these guys in the R&R Hall of Fame?

  • @MetalSonic150 cause they'd be commercial crap instead

  • @MetalSonic150 yes why arent they? tis a shame!!

  • Comment removed

  • maple trees suck

  • maple trees suck

  • On one of my other accounts i posted a video of Black sabbaths Into the Void with better sound quality. Somebody watched it and said your an idiot its just louder. I simply replied. "Exactly"

  • Three LEGENDS !! These guys are the best power trio ever !Fuck the Hall Of Fame crap ! Rush dont need any vindication !! They never fail to blow me away !! Peace Ye`all !!

  • You guy,s got me through the Cold War, I can only say thanks. Airman 1st class Bryant

  • somebody was baked wen they wrote this

  • his nose is giant

  • @MrPerfectOnFlyff is the lead singer a boy?

  • @Pasalaqcua Yes, the lead singer is a boy. His name is Geddy Lee.

  • @gasmmusic No, he is a MAN!

  • @MaxtheMetalhead Hey, I was answering the question, directly.

  • Niel Pert with long hair and a mustache = win

  • @hunthell 'Niel Pert' with long hair and a 'mustache' does not = win. 'Neil Peart' with a 'Handlebar' mustache = a HUGE win.

  • @hunthell Let me try that again.

  • @nkmcfrln hello! Thanks for correcting me on my misspelling! How could I ever thank you?

  • @hunthell You could forgive the fuck-up on my first reply to your comment - that I had to correct - and get more into Rush up until the point where Niel got rid of the handlebar mustache his long hair and Slingerland drums.

  • @nkmcfrln I have. I love a ton of stuff Rush put out - not just their old stuff. I've been listening to Rush since I was pretty young and I still love everything they put out.

  • i think we have too many trees

  • RIGHT LET'S STOP MESSING ABOUT!!

Try playing Lee's bass lines (and singing) simultaneously, Lifeson's guitar riffs/arpeggios and solos, and finally Peart's syncopated drum rhythms. None of the above is easy to perform.

The "musicians" in many of the so-called bands of today would be completely and utterly out of their depth i.e. bands like say McFly or U2. Rush's complicated awesome music could well be described as being on a "timeless wavelength"!!

    Does anyone else agree?

  • @ecapa0020 you should check out dream theater

  • @ecapa0020 already singing and playing an instrument is difficult, I can't imagine playing a complex song as this!

  • @ecapa0020

    I totally agree with you.

But you forgot to mention the fact that when Lee isn't playing the four-string, he's using the Taurus pedals and synthesizers to create the illusion of a four-piece band. And let's not forget the way Alex meshes the six- and twelve-string electrics & the acoustics.

    Thought I'd throw that in.

  • @ecapa0020 YES! This song is hard, even for a Rush song!

  • @ecapa0020 HARD ACT TO FOLLOW FOR SURE

  • @ecapa0020 NOT TO MENTION WHEN GEDDY PLAYS THE KEYS, HE USES BASS PEDALS WITH HIS FEET

  • @ecapa0020 Neil Peart is the greatest drummer alive

  • @ThreadyCash2274 Neil Peart is the greatest lyricist alive!

  • @ThreadyCash2274

    Keith Moon trumps Neil Peart.

but Derek Roddy is better than both (im not a fan of his band, but he is one hell of a drummer)

  • @ThreadyCash2274 Listen to Bill Bruford if you like Neil Pert

  • @collegeparkwhiteboy I have, but didnt you read "he's the greatest drummer alive" ?

  • @ThreadyCash2274 Portnoy and Copeland are right there w/ Peart, Different styles, certainly not the "greatest alive" that's -your- opinion

  • @ecapa0020

    WORD! THANK YOU!

  • @ecapa0020 Ive always listened in awe to Geddy's singing along with his odd bass rhythms

  • @ecapa0020 Wholeheartedly. These guys make an amazing sound for only 3 guys.

  • @ecapa0020 great canadian boys!

  • @ecapa0020 bearing a gift beyond price, almost free

  • @ecapa0020

You're are spot on - 100% correct. However, I would say that more recent Rush (last 20 years!) has less "mad" time signatures than used to be the case.

However, when one talks, as you did, about singing and playing simultaneously, I think of BB King. He never manages to both play and sing at the same time.

I'm glad to say that the syncopation is still as good as it ever was.

  • thnx :D

  • it is hard to believe that three guys can make so much sound.

  • I love this when I first heard it I thought they would change the world how could anybody fail to be moved by this and closer to the heart, 2112 etc etc

  • remember alot more to this song WHERE IS IT
