Do you know Dark Hall, Steve DiGiorgio instrumental Jazz Fusion band? If you like it, I would suggest you to cover Changing Weather... it's tough, but it should be easy as hell for you! :D and also very fun to play xD
High C tuning right? Man i love that tuning. But i also require a low B at times you know for those fills and stuff and hitting some low notes, So would you recommend buying a 6 string for someone who's playing style is rather similar to yours( Nowhere as good though! You're awesome!) and which one would you recommend? Thanks!
@moomy1982 Not to argue or anything, But i'm pretty sure i see him playing the last string, hence it should be an E right? Well i might be wrong though.
@sardhikhaansi - It's BEADG tuning this time (though I've had it in EADGC recently too). I like both tunings depending on what I'm doing. The higher tuning is great for doing chordal stuff, and soloing. And the lower tuning is the 'standard' and great for anything that you would need a low B for. I've had some 6-strings before and ended up going back to 5s for my main bass. They're generally more comfortable for me, and I'm fine going back and forth from B-G and E-C tunings.
@sardhikhaansi - You can also tune E-C and then put a drop tuner on the E-string (Can usually get down to at least a low C, depending on strings / climate) to get the best of both worlds.
im a guitar player looking to get into bass so maybe you can help me. since ive been playing guitar for a long time, i know how to identify and get a metal tone through my amp. what is a bass's metal sound supposed to sound like. are there some amps that have a certain types of sounds for metal? or do you just use a clean sound al the time?
@pivetlord13 - Bass tone is usually just clean all around - with bass (especially in metal) it's more important to have a tone that will cut through guitars and other instruments so you can be heard without having to completely overpower the band. Usually that tone will be very different than a good 'solo' bass tone. While you're playing with a band, you'll have to just tweak the EQ and pickup blend of your bass and amp to try and find the best sound. It'll change depending on other instruments.
@Rubenble - Yeah...I have a short attention span and I don't practice very much :P Yesterday was probably the first time I've played this song in years :)
@jf506 - Thanks! The strings play a huge part in this tone. Thomastik-Infeld Jazz Rounds. They're light gauge nickel roundwounds that have a very warm tone. Add some age (I think they're about 3 months old now) and some bass EQ boost. That's about it.
hey im lookin to get into bass playing could you recommend a good bass to start with?
