in every ufc grappler v striker matchup the grappler will always try to take it to the ground thats a fact and that fact proves ur kickboxing theory to be bullshit.
saying the ufc has become a kickboxing leauge is retarded most mma fans understand ground game to the point where they can enjoy it as long as its not lay and pray, there where submission wins that night 2 ,ufc defo do not pay fighters to stand up.
So wait, because the standup in the UFC has gone up, which who knows if it's true or not, you think that the UFC is telling/paying their fighters not to go to the ground? Your logic is extremely flawed, and that's coming from a person who has been a fan of MMA longer than you've been a post-pubescent male. You should probably get yourself checked out, cause that lack of intelligence has to be some kind of disorder.
i'm not letting leben off the hook either. why is he duking it out with a guy who is a better boxer and has a huge reach advantage? he should have took bisping down for the whole fight and ground and pounded him. thats his strength. but i guess he wanted to please the fans by giving them a boxing match. or thats probably what the ufc suits told him to do. lets face it the ufc has become a kickboxing league.
You're a pretty dumb guy. You're not even realizing that Leben is one of the pound-for-pound DUMBEST fighters in all of MMA. The UFC "suits" will definitely not be "telling" fighters what to do, especially after seeing Elite XC's embarrassing moment with the Kimbo v. Petruzelli fight. And the UFC has become a kickboxing league? There were submission wins that night, which is not kickboxing. You should probably not comment anymore on MMA videos when you don't know anything about MMA.
i guess i am not as smart as you. leben isnt dumb just because he wades in, its his style which plays to his strengths including a very good chin. oh yes i am the ufc are going to simply stop telling their fighters to keep it standing up just because petruzelli let it slip out that elite xc does it. they will continue doing it to attract the dumbass fans who dont understand ground game.
if you dont think the percentage of standup in the ufc hasnt gone up by a stratospheric degree, then you must be a new fan. its turning into k-1. you might want to go back to watching wwe.
But those are lesser fighters. This may very well be how he handles the next level of fighters he faces, I just don't know how well it would work against Hendo though.
Excellent point about the Leben/Bisping fight. I saw it the same way. Consider if they fought in the street, they wouldn't be fighting for a desicion. What would Bisping do then? Run Away? This is the Ultimate Fighting Championship not the Ultimate Sprinting Championship. I think the last 15 seconds of the fight summed up how the whole thing went. Bisping couldn't finish Leben and he was scared to engage with him. Clearly the UFC is trying to expand their market in the UK thru Bisping. Its LAME
Im saying look at Lebens face to all the people who said Bisping ran. Im suprised how much damage Bisping done for the shots i seen him throw! so he much have some power.
Bisping HIMSELF said he was fighting for a decision. That is what needs to be considered...who cares if he did superficial damage...he NEVER hurt Leben and wouldn't engage with him...had they fought in the streets Leben would have knocked his block off...or Bisping would have ran away. What if they both just circled around and ran away from each other?...The funniest thing is that even the UFC is saying that they are going to be taking Bising's training wheels off...that says plenty :D
It's funny how you claim that in a "street fight" things would go differently. They wouldn't. Leben wouldn't catch Bisping and would continue to eat jabs for half an hour until he got frustrated and left.
People said the same thing about Machida/Tito. How does the street magically transform a great counter-puncher into a punching bag? Guess what - it doesn't.
So-called "point fighting" is the best way to fight in the streets - it's good for your face and bad for the other guy's persistence.
leben won that fight but it was given to bisping because 1)the ufc wants to expand its market into the uk 2)the brits lost to americans in the other fights 3)the knuckledragging hooligans would have rioted if their man hadnt been given the victory. this is just another way in which the ufc is corrupt and why fedor doesnt want to fight in it.
yes lebens face was fucked up from those jabs. but leben was pressing forward the ENTIRE fight, and he took bisping down, and he rocked bisping and made him wobble, and landed most of the HARD punches. and did i mention he pressed forward the ENTIRE fight?
if no one gets submitted or ko'd how do you award it to the fighter who was backing up the entire fight and who was taken down and wobbled? i guess the ufc really wants to do business in the uk.
Come on man he won rounds 2 and 3 so easy! wobbled yes a few times i agree in the third round! against the best Leben yet. he took the shots and proved he has a ok chin and can recover! anyway its Franklin or Henderson next then we will see what Bisping is made of.
Good recap. They knew before making the Bisping/Leben match that Bisping's best shot at winning would be a decision. As a main event it did fall short but I can't blame the guy for picking the best gameplan.
As a whole the event did seem a little lackluster, and like you said, anticlimactic. It was free though, so I can't complain.
Why do all intelligent fighters seem boring to you people? If you like "flying leather" you've got toughman comps. In MMA the one with the better strategy usually wins. Sure, brawlers like Wandy are entertaining but they just keep losing. Isn't that frustrating to you? Why watch MMA then?
Bisping, Evans, Machida - these people win constantly because they have strategy. There will be more such fighters so if you hate it - maybe just find another sport?
Dude, people keep saying this like there isn't a medium between brawling and being "evasive", and it's called good stand up. Like Anderson where he bobs and weaves and hits combos, he isn't running away and he isn't coming in with his hands down trying to connect with a haymaker from his hip. He's beating people with straight up talent, not with tricks or big punches. That's who I want to see fighters take after.
I understand but there is only ONE Anderson Silva. Every fighter can't be like him so you get your brawlers and your tacticians (or as you call them, runners). The perfect balance is very hard to obtain.
Im tired of fighters being a bitch i liked bisping b4 but in interviews he kept saying how hes at another level than leben and that he'll knock him out for sure but he didnt even attempt to knock do that he didnt even gameplan, which he admitted, to knock him out. he went into that fight not to beat chris but decision him it shows intelligence but no heart thats like those wrestlers coming in to hump a guy for three rounds to win by decision right now i dont see him goin further than gatekeeper
Is a Unanimous Decision a legit way to win a fight? Yes = Bisping won fair and square. No = then why have judges?
I sincerely don't understand your logic. Bisping chose the perfect (and maybe only) way to win. He knew he'd get KOed if he traded so he did the good'ol "stick and move". What does this have to do with being "a bitch"? Do you really have to get hurt to show how "manly" you are?
I appreciate fighters than THINK before entering the cage. That ability is a part of every great pro.
Is a Unanimous decision a legit way to win a fight? Not if that was your intention before you even fight
I have no qualms about decisions. My problem was gameplanning to win a decision. That doesnt sound like a "fighter" to me Especially when you speak about the other guy is not at your level and will knock him out. He said the words "knock him out" but never even intented let alone attempted to do so
There is nothing wrong with planning a Decision win sometimes. For fuck's sake, this was Bisping's SECOND Decision win EVER! Bisping is a knock-out artist. This time however, he couldn't rely on a KO because Leben's chin is made of stone. So the only way he could win was by stick-and-moving. And he "stuck" enough in Leben's face, you could clearly see that.
The goal is to win. This time, the best way was a Decision, there's no shame in that. There will be KOs next time.
I agree with you about nothing wrong with a decision win We can agree to disagree about planning a win by decision Thats like having a wrestler plan on humping a guy for three rounds and winning cuz he controlled him This fight was much of the same but with punches. Very very little aggresion or forward motion on bispings part He looked like he was just trying to survive instead of win He one with strikes but leben definitely controlled the octagon
Planning to win a decision is quite common in wresting and nobody gets upset when it's the case. In MMA we call it "lay'n'pray" but it's not frowned upon in wrestling.
The Bisping vs Leben fight was a lot more exciting than LnP IMO. As for Leben's "control" - what good is control if you're the one who's bleeding? Sheer aggression won't let you win the fight if you're sustaining more damage than your opponent.
ahh the "you're the one bleeding" argument. I do appreciate your answers, very courteous and well thought out, unlike these internet gangstas
what i will have to point out is the infamous Penn vs GSP bout. which i'm sure you are very familiar with. GSP had the control and Penn sent him to the hospital
also just cuz bispings chicken pecks are more exciting to look at than LNP doesn't it's not in the same category
it's just tryin to survive with no intention of "finishing" the fight IMO
As for "no intention of finishing": as sad as it may be, sometimes the chances of finishing are just too low and the risk is just too high to just "go for it".
For example, Machida knew that Tito would outwrestle him on the ground. He had to keep avoiding takedowns and wait for an opening.
Bisping knew that he couldn't KO Leben and would get KOed himself in a brawl. He had to use the stick&move as a sure road to victory.
arrgh..i was hoping you wouldn't bring the machida thing up..what you call "smart" in machida imo is different from bispings.
i believe machida did more than backpedal and chickenpeck. he controlled the action and the octagon very well.
bisping just backed up while leben controlled the octagon. i'm sure leben could have taken him down and LNPed him but he lived up to his word and kept it on the feet
not very "smart" but very honorable
i just think it was a bs "win" for all of bispings talk
I see your point and I do agree about the Machida thing. Lyoto usually looks for the finish when he finally finds an opening. But he had an easier task last time, he knew he could knock Tito down - and he did. Bisping knew that he wouldn't KO Leben so I guess he didn't even try. Yeah, kinda disappointing but at the end of the day a win is a win. Honor has little to do with it.
BTW I wonder if we'd be having this conversation if Leben did ride Bisping to a LnP UD. Would he be called a "pussy"?
oh if leben LNPed i'd be goin crazy callin' him a pussy with his mouth. i was actually on bisping's side believe or not before the fight. it was his actions that made me a leben fan. but leben has changed a lot so i gained more respect for him now. but either way neither one of them is close to being ready for the spider at this moment. especially seing how he was flossin against cote last night. disappointing ending though, but shit happens
