You are a great player. Take it from me. I'm a great player, too. That doesn't make either of us Jaco Pastorius. I doubt the guy would laugh at you if he were still with us. In the everyday world of everyday players, only "monsters" would ever even think about biting down in this piece. To that point, it looks like you scared a few viewers! Good job.
I LIKE THIS VERSIO A LOT, IF YOU ARE NOT A PRO I DON,T CARE YOU PLAY AS GOOD AS MANY ,PRO PLAYER , DON,T PAY ATENTION TO A NEGATIVE KEEP GOING I WANT TO BE LIKE U , SOME DAY , I LIKE YOU PLAY VERY GOOD!!
I played this on my Rickenbacker 4001 for the Wisconsin High School solo and ensemble competition back in 1985. They didn't know where to put me, so I went with the tubas. I forgot a complete line, but they still gave me a starred first and ribbon!
Dear fybjstar650 greetngs from Colombia, great job!!!! Do you use the original flatwound strings that come with the Jaco bass or roundwound? Thank you, you are amazing!
@MeckelBot Thank you MeckelBot, i agree however Jaco used Rotosound Swing Roundwound strings in his fretless, the Jaco's relic bass and the Squier version come originally with roundwounds too. Some owner's reviews of this Fender bass tell they have changed the strings to get a sound closer to Jaco's sound, if i am not wrong funkstar650 is using flatwounds, i'm planning to buy this bass and i would like to know opinions, thank you again, peace!
@javierandresmesa Is it a squier vintage modified jazz? i didnt know jaco used roundwounds.. then again his bass looked like it took a beating, and jaco could grove with a stone, lol. thanks for the info :)
@MeckelBot Hi friend! No, this is the Jaco Pastorius Jazz Bass and it comes with flatwound strings, you can view its specs at Fender's web site. However, for the price the Squier Vintage Fretless Bass is awesome, it cames with roundwound strings. Peace ;)
@javierandresmesa If was to get one, id almost for sure get the squier :). but parents would help out if i was to learn portuguese guitar, so I guess the bass will be far in the future :). thanks for the reply btw
I bought the same bass as yours 3 weeks ago used, but I can't take it home for another week because they need to keep it for a full month so they can make sure that they got it stolen or anything. Anywho, I've spent the past week or so transcribing this from your video so when I do get the bass I can use it for what it was meant for. You did a great job with the song. Very well played.
@Cummnz i have breached no protocol, there are way worse internet arguments here on youtube, im sure they will just think you need to get some thicker skin, oh, and a backbone. Youre blocked anyway, so i get the last word, yay!

Does the US Jaco signature sound a lot better than the actual standard frettless jazz basses? That bass sounds really good, looks very well built. Nice playing too dude.
@xturban Hi, thanx for watching and commenting. Well the fingerboard on the Jaco Signature is pao ferro, not rosewood, which has a polyester finish. It comes a bit closer to the Jaco sound although Jaco used and epoxy on his fingerboard.
@Linus27 Thank you so much for watching and commenting... sorry but I don't understand the question really. What do you mean with a MIA or CIJ Jaco Tribute?
@funkstar650 Hi again, sorry what I mean is, is the Fender Jazz than you are playing, a Made in America Jaco Tribute bass or a Crafted In Japan 62 Re-Issue Jaco Tribute bass or just a box standard American Fender Jazz Fretless?
@funkstar650 thank you. It sounds wonderful but then they do say tone is in the hands so I guess its you thats making it sound sweet. Thanks and all the best.
@Linus27 Thank you! I think the tone comes from both the bass and the hands. Although noone can sound like Jaco... he remains one of a kind. I did change the pots in the bass though to get a deeper tone.
Wonderful tribute. I only started playing bass in the late 90s but jaco was of course a great influence on me. I learned a great deal about feel and intonation just by listening and trying to mimic his sounds.
sorry for being so harsh. i had no idea you were not a professional bassist. the only thing i will say is, jaco had a huge ego. so, maybe he would be proud that he has affected so many bassists lives.
@christophwalters You are soooo right. I don't sound anything like Jaco. Never said I did either. As a matter of fact: there is noone in this world that will ever sound like him. Only Jaco sounds like Jaco. But the thing is that this clip was meant as a tribute. Out of tune notes or not, it's meant well. I ain't no pro. Just a music and bass lover. That's all... Jaco would laugh at me. Maybe he would but if he knew that this was to honor him instead of copying him he would more proud I hope.
That guy's a troll. I think you did a good job. Jaco would be proud, because he meant well when he played. So don't listen to this chicken. All bark but no show.
Excellent job. I used to play along with the version from the Bday concert. This one is much longer. Very good job. Your sound is almost identical. Jaco would be happy to hear this.
Really close to Jaco tone, Pao Ferro is something similar to rosewood with petite poly poxy on it ? I know that Pao Ferro is harder than brazilian or indian rosewood.

Man that was HOT!!! i really enjoyed your playing. Hopefully i can get to that level one day. Hey man check out my clip if you have a minute and let me know what u think. I always wanted a professionals advise. Its just the beginning of the track
Hey my man, thank you so much for commenting and watching my clip. I just checked out your clip and commented... man you got great skills and a great sound there!! Can't wait to see more of you soon!
Greetings from Long Island,New York. Just discovered you on you tube tonight on this snowy night. I am a bass player & huge Jaco fanatic. Beatiful Tribute.
I'm looking to buy that bass since it's so nice xD. Whats a good price for it? My local dealer wants to sell it to me for 2,500$ CAN. I don't know, but sounds a little pricey as I saw it for much less on eBay. What do you think?
Nice man... This really reminds me of Jaco =3 What are your equips?

I don't know if this is the best amateur version... I've seen many better version than mine but as an amateur I am just having fun honoring the master.
Thanx for commenting and watching my clip!

I kept waiting for the horn section to slide in. Nice job. That jazz has a nice tone. Keep up the good work,

I'm looking to buy that bass since it's so nice xD. Whats a good price for it? My local dealer wants to sell it to me for 2,500$ CAN. I don't know, but sounds a little pricey as I saw it for much less on eBay. What do you think?
GuillaumeThekkadath 3 years ago
I think that's the reguals price really... these USA Pastorius Sig Fender don't come cheap. In Canadian $ I think it's just a regular price.
Peace and good luck searching for one! Let me know if you found one OK?

Hey there, well it IS a fretless... the only effect I used is a little bit of chorus. That's all.
