This is pretty clever! Idra also stunned me once by making an amazing creep highway almost instantly by getting overlord speed and then lining them up single file. He had a perfect highway in seconds and his hydras zoomed like evil bastards all the way across the map.
im fairly new to the series and this has been the best tip ive gotten so far. not too many people use it and its been great with helping me spread creep, and making my enemy think i have bases in places i haven't reached yet.
keep in mind, this isnt something you want to RUSH to make... Just a helpful thing IF you have time. Also a fun idea when theres no Zerg enemies, do it around all the expo's so they can have them =]
So to do this, you have to add in a whole lot of research time and waste queen energy and resources on that tech.
This would never be used for making a creep highway.
On the other hand, this technique could be used to stop the enemy expanding. Fly over to where their 3rd would be, plop a tumor down.
If they are terran, they scan and lose 200 odd minerals. If they are protoss....they have an observer anyways. If they are zerg, they can't put the hatch on the tumor.
@archlorddestin he said he likes using it when baneling bombing so you allready have the research done!! and you often enough have a random queen with full energy hanging around somewhere ... else 150 minerals isnt much of an investment. the only problem is the apm that you would need to do this effectively while still macroing and potentially microing at the same time.
nice one. ive done it a few times too where u plant a tumor then use the overlord to make creep at the edge of the radius and u dont have to wait for the creep to spread out
@verne51 #1 You say if you weren't spreading creep all game, but surely if you are not spreading creep all game then this will benefit you.
#2 You are not limited to building 1 queen per hatch and may build additional queens for transfusing and creep
#3 This is not how this is intended, on a large macro map you cannot creep spread the entire map in the time needed this method allows you to create a single path or 'highway' straight to the opponent to speed the rate reinforcements can arrive at.
@verne51 it's a faster creepspread if you're already going a baneling bomb build (you will have the overlord researches) and making an extra queen is pretty common (creep spread is a fantastic intel and combat tool so imo, an extra queen just for creep is great, and you can bring her back if she survives to inject your macro hatch).
The bonus of this technique is that each tumour can spread again, rather than it being a line that is vulnerable to being sniped more easily. (also creeping expos)
A modified strategy for this setup would allow you to deny an opponents expansion until they get detection. However, even with detection, the creep must recede for a Terran or Protoss to place there expansion, denying an expansion by 30+ seconds could become big when gosu Zerg players figure this out and use it well.
Nice fast creep highway too, I thought of that along with expansion denial a few months back, so here is my tip for you. Would be awesome if you made a video of this. Multi-tumor!
@dredlockz Listen to what he says in the video. He says he likes to use it when using Baneling bombs so you will need that stuff anyway also it can be used if you have spare resources for it and you need creep spread fast.
Hey SC2Dude, thanks for the video! You can actually do this with one control group: have your overlord and queen in one control group, load up the queen, and go wherever you want to go. Then hit D and drop the queen, press your control group again (queens will be selected in precedence over overlords), press C and place your tumor, load up the queen again, and move the overlord (who will now automatically be selected). Presto, you've got one magic creep-spreading control group.
Just a question, will the creep tumor die if the creep from the over lord recedes too much? As larva die instantly when off creep I was wondering if it is the same here.
This seems more viable as a way to spine crawler push. Just randomly spreading creep can take up loads of APM and be vulnerable to lose both the Overlord and the Queen because you're just out there on the map.
Also, you need to invest in Overlord speed and drop. You probably won't need the creep as much if you invested in drop (figuring you'd use drop if you upgraded).
@dar482 But remember Zerg is the race that can restore their units in a pinch! so losing a quenn and overlord isn't the worst thing in the world. Creep spread, on the other hand, can determine a loss and win.
@Simon199392 Yep definitely a temporary step back on the logo. I should have a video intro soon. Thumbs up if you noticed the increased video quality. New render setting ftw!
This looks very micro intensive, when is the best time to start on something like this, after you make a successful muta attack, or when the enemy just threw away his army?
it just seems like it diverts too much attention away from standard attacking and normal creep spread.
pretty useless and take too much time in a party, but nice anyway

by the time you have upgraded all that your enemy has already expod and has probably used those resources to increase his army to a substantial size

Blocking off expansions.
You can gain vision over all expansions on the map. The enemy expands only when you let them.

ok #1 if you werent spreading creep all game then this won't help you.
#2 if your queen has enough energy to do this then you're not injecting and creep wont help you
#3 Spread creep all game long and this is not an issue.

do energy carrying units generate energy while in transport? (i.e. queens, ghosts, and such).
thanks.
(and also, can you carry "timed" units, like infested terren and/or mule? will they die in transport when timed out?)

Not so useful, to make this work you need to research Lair, Pneumatized Carapace and Ventral Sacs.
That takes around 6 minutes and 450minerals and 400gas.
