The Blackening is a SICK album, it's got a dark and methodical, plodding kind of sound that I love and the vibe is just NASTY....and damn this dude can scream and sing. I've been a huge MH fan for years and every time I play The Blackening or Through the Ashes of Empires for a metalhead friend of mine, they always tell me it's badass and ask me who it is! As for metal itself, metal is exploding all over the entire world. The mexican metal scene for example is going apeshit right now. It's fucking brutal.

@toadman842 Mallcore is a term that lots of people use. It's usually meant to describe the dumbed-down Metal that you'd find your average dumbfuck mall-goer listening to. Like Lamb of God and Machine Head.
And yeah. Pantera is crap. Their only good "Groove Metal" album is Great Southern Trendkill. Their first four albums are great. But they killed Metal with their crap music. The only reason most Groove Metal is shit is because it's basically a clone of Pantera's bad albums like VDoP and FBD

But the Pantera everyone knows and talks about; the Cowboys from Hell, Vulgar Display of Power, Far Beyond Driven Pantera, is fucking horrible. Some of the worst, uncreative and try-hard albums ever to come to Metal. And the biggest reason Metal has gotten incredibly shitty since the mid-90's, when talent is replaced by uninspiring riffs and lulzy toughy guy vocals and lyrics.

The "big four" have exellent albums since the 90s. Especially Death Magnetic, The System Has Failed, End Game, Sound of White Noise, and We've Come to Save You All. I don't like Slayer that much, but they have had several good albums since the 90s.
I don't see how you can say that Pantera's albums have sucked, considering Vulger Display of Power is irrefutably great. Again, what are your favorite metal albums?? Sounds like you're a power-metal guy.
