Hey! What tubes are in there? I got V3112 combo and it sounds very dark and unclear(?). Do you know how i could get the sound more clear and bright and less gain. It has sovtek el84 tubes now and celestion 70/80 speaker. help mee.
It's definitely a "dark" amp. I no longer have it, but gigged with it a few times and always had the bass down real low. Like 10:00 or 9:00 o'clock. I had JJ EL84s in it and I forget what preamp tubes. But dialing the lows way back always did it for me.
I thought the V3112 sounded kind of muddy until by accident I stumbled on the solution: TURN THE MIDRANGE ALL THE WAY UP! Anything below a 3/4 setting lets the amp sound undefined. The midrange sweep is pretty broad, so you won't get a nasal or honky sound, either.
Also try a 5751 or 12AT7 preamp tube in position V2 to reduce gain.
If you're willing to invest a bit: Change the speaker! Celestion G12H30 or Alnico Gold will help to get more definition. Important: Any speaker will need about 20hours or of loud playing to break in.
If you want to go all the way, swap the output transformer for a good quality AC 30 type OT
I own the V3112T combo with the Tone Tubby 40/40 ceramic speaker and with my I vintage reissue strat I set the controls like this: overdrive gain 5, treble 3, middle 10, bass 0, overdrive level 4-6, reverb 0 (I use an analog delay in the effects loop instead) and it's the greatest sound I ever had :-)
Ehhh, it may look a little funny. But people use the Mesa Mark series heads and other small heads on big cabs, so it's not the end of the world. :)
And yes, people will tell you "it only matters how it sounds." I agree that the sound is the most important, but I'd be lying if I said looks didn't play SOME role in it too.
Well, I haven't heard the Crate V100H. I've only heard this V30H I have and the combo version once in the store. These Crate amps CAN have a "Marshall-like" tone, but it's much thicker than Slash's typical tone. But yeah, I think if you roll the bass back alot, punch up the mids, etc... you can probably get kinda close.
I think a good inexpensive way to get the Slash tone is to check out the Marshall AVT50 head and some sort of closed-back cab with Celestions.
Thats sure a fat tone. The twin you used on other videos had a bit more edge it seemed. cool licks your playing there. Thanks for the amp demos. very cool :)
Hey thanks, man! I saw this Crate head and cab for sale locally for $325 and had to jump on it. I didn't need it, but I couldn't resist it for that price! I'm pleasantly surprised with it too. It has ALOT of low end. So much that I usually turn the bass down around 10:00 o'clock.
It's very meaty, but still has some presence to it that make it cut through a band mix. I think I'll alternate between this rig and my Twin and pedals rig for gigs, just for the heck of it.
Good stuff thump keep it up bro, btw thats the NON tone tubby correct? and no boost either? $315 for BOTH? yummy good - can we get another video when u get another min or 2 Crate does put out some good stuff (palominos + old VC are good amps) but they also put out some crap and people like to remember the crap instead of good lol - I wonder how the tone tubbies with a boost sound? PS - theres a effects loop right?
Hey thanks, man. Yeah, this is the cab with the Celestion Seventy/80 speakers. I've heard the Tone Tubby's are killer, but I've never owned those speakers. And yes, $325 for both the head and the cab! Killer deal, huh? :)
great 70s 80s tone:)

I usually run my bass at like 8 o clock... its such a bassy amp.. Do you find it to have a harsh midrange when overdriven?

On my V30 I run the bass on 0... those are bassy amps!

Oh, and dialing the gain back helped clear it up too.

how does the clean tone on this amp do with overdrive pedals?

Do you know if this sounds similar to the V-50 112 combo since there both V-Series?

do u think the head would be to small to put on a flexwaves series cab? i thot it might look a little out of proportion
