So in that respect that had no ethnic identity (because of slavery) so they had to create one and they did so by banding together as blacks. Around 50 % of the worlds diamonds come from the continent, all the cocoa in the world come from west Africa, but all in all very little are exported from Africa compared to the size of the continent and the population. Puerto ricans in new york and chicago / America mostly marry white and some marry black - but puerto ricans are not a race , nor are mexicans - the mexican rulers are white and the ruled are native americans.

The Dominican Republic has more of a black population, but less than Haiti - so more melanin exists in the general population of puerto rico than in England - but is it from the africans or from the natives? Usually you can tell african descent from the thicker hair. Thinner hair is from european / Native. Also slanted eyes are native.
