  • summer bird was the best horse in this race. he was making the same move as Mine That Bird, except mine that bird got the rail and summer bird had to go very wide, and still got 6th. So i was able to get my hundreds during the Belmont when he went off at 11-1 :)

  • When I was a kid I shot a horse in the penis with my BB gun. I pumped the gun up to full power and waited hours for the horse to take a piss. Then BAM !!!

To date I've never seen anything jump that high.

  • 50-1.....unreal!!!

  • God I love this race. I didn't even notice the little guy sneaking up and blasting forward till he was already gone.

  • Durkin shows just how hopeless a racecaller can be. At least he's consistent.

  • I agree that some owners are in it for the money but most love their horses. NO one would delberatly hurt a race horse. they are expensive to buy. Why would they hurt one? I lvoe horse racing it is the inly sport i like.

  • I'm going to buy a racing horse and name him "my face".

  • Haha, when Mine That Bird sneaks to the front on the inside he's all "'Scuse me, fellas, but I believe this is mine. See ya!" Freakin' awesome. 8D

  • horse racing can be cruel but is exicting and at least the horses are sometimes excited about it and from a game plan by themselves

  • My Fav KD race in recent memory instant classic!

  • Uncle Mo is my fave. :-)

  • The announcer should be fired or demoted, what a dip shit.

  • they need to fire that announcer..

  • flying private te hehe

  • i just like to see horses run, i don't particularly care for the race

  • Actually, horses do get killed. It is astromnomically expensive to maintain animals on the track. I worked at a stable in the SF Bay Area and we would often get calls--"come get this horse or we are going to put it down..." We got some really nice animals that way.

  • i love horse racing well not racing but watching it and some ppl if they dont win they kill there horses or leave them do u think its cruel i do

  • @awesomelily101

Omg, that's not true. They don't kill their horses? They just retire them, but not kill them. -,-

AND HORSE RACING IS NOT CRUEL!

  • @SpeedofaThoroughbred i never said it was cruel i love it i think its so cool to see how fast the horses can run and its what i heard i didnt know if killing ur horses was true or not

  • woohoo i love mind that bird hes my fav horse i love horses

  • I just seen the horse Mine That Bird about an hour ago. It was pretty awesome.

  • Its amazing how they are running their hardest and they just look like their in an easy lope. Racehorses are amazing.

  • besthorsetips.webs.com

  • they seem slower on here but in real probally much faster

  • They move so much faster in the movies! :b

  • Away out yonder ahead of them all came a dancin and a prancin my Nobel Stewball, Mine that bird the best finish ever. All you but monkeys say what you want it’s a story book finish for the ages!

  • @Oryanisi WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT!!??!!

  • best race ever.

  • hehe not to talk bad about mind that bird but if i happen to remember right a great horse called zenyatta beat him more than once :)

  • The only reason he was beaten in the Belmont was that Borel knew the tactics to beat him.You would have thought he would have stuck with MTB and gone for the Triple Crown but obviously winning a Classic on a fillie is a bigger story to him!! Pity though!

  • @frankschlanker He had to ride Rachel Alexandra and to tell you something she is a much better horse than mine that bird who happened to get lucky in the derby, watch the 2009 kentucky oaks u will see how good she was and look at the final time, also the haskell time, and the woodward. Mine that bird never won a race after the derby, plus borel was riding him in the belmont so ur comment makes no sense.

  • you know the horse race and human sprint is dominated by black/brown horses and people :)

  • I love how the announcer doesn't notice Mine That Bird until he's already by them all

  • is this a canceld cd-i game??!!?!?!?!

  • if you back a horse and he is the favourite yet comes nowhere then.. THE HORSE SHOULD BE FUCKING PUT DOWN RIGHT AWAY AFTER THE RACE AND THE JOCKEY SHOULD BE BRUTALLY BEATEN TO DEATH WITH A HAMMER. THAT WAY WE GET RID OF ALL THE SHIT HORSES AND WORTHLESS JOCKEYS.

  • @sirtheory1 Lmfao, that is the most absurd comment i have ever heard yet i cant stop laughing about it.I take it you lost some money yesterday did you?

  • @1984ioc and jesus christ,i now notice on your homepage i have had problems with you over Pat fucking Kenny and i meet you here on this page. What the fuck?

  • @1984ioc i dont belive this its you again! what the fuck yeah i rember you were insulting pat kenny or something how the fuck do you end up on this video aswell! i didnt have money on that horse at ascot thank fuck, the stupid worthless cunt

  • @sirtheory1 watching ascot replays form Ascot and somehow i got here. What the fuck were the chances of bumping into you on a Kentucky horse racing videol of all places.

  • @1984ioc its absolutely ridiculus on a fuckin racing video of all places it will be another video next, funny. i like to voice my opinion across videos

  • @sirtheory1 And for fuck sake i just noticed your from Ireland and your name is sirtheory,im actually pissing myself at the moment.Did you have money on O Briens Australian horse at Ascot?I bet you did...4/11.Ouch,how much you lose?

  • @sirtheory1 Did the luck of the Irish let you down again? Get over yourself, dumbass.

  • great to see a gelding win it...all the so called experts wrong again....

  • Who else just read that Yahoo article?

  • its amazing how different horse racing looks on tv, i've only seen a light work in person, but it looks much faster than this! (hope that doesnt sound rude in anyway, i think it would be so amazing to see this in person, it would probobly look like supperrrspeed :D

  • I love horse races

  • Mine that bird will always be my favorite

  • tough little guy, too bad borel abandoned him in the preakness

  • i thought the kentucky derby was a ping pong tournament...

  • @Oryanisi why did you think that

  • @Oryanisi ur no alone...i used to think it was a car race!! lol

  • He's my friends uncle! They're making a movie about it!

  • I remember watching this derby and FREAKING out when I saw that horse start to move. Amazing!

  • i remember watching this with my dad and i was like " DAD DAD LOOK AT THAT HORSE !!!! " ( i was pointing at mine that bird) and he's like "what ?" and then the horse won and my dads like "WHAT ?!" lol

  • Mine that Bird was great. I was really pulling for him in the preakness when Borrel betrayed him for that filly.

  • best kentucky derby in a while loved every minute!

  • that number 8 blanket must be magical

  • -- amaing comeback !

  • Animal Kingdom, like MTB, somehow at the end they find that explosive gear...

  • @theflorgeormix ikr? i think MTB like mentored him or something xD

  • if that woman had still been on this horse, it would have stayed in the back the entire race

  • I think Archarcharch is gonna win the 137 kentucky derby!

  • Nice video. Gearing up for this year!!!!!!!

  • I'll miss Tom Durkin on the call

  • Yes, there will always be those who abuse animals for their own profit, but to make these sweeping statements that everyone involved in horse racing does this is simply disingenuous. How about the owners of Zenyatta? They didn't race her till she was really almost 4, took the greatest care of her, and OBVIOUSLY love her, NOT the money (they were already rolling in dough before she came along). Why do you think she was entered primarily in races that had a smaller purse and were against fillies?

  • One of the great underdog wins in sports history .. & homeboy calling the race didn't do it justice.. (he didn't even see it happening.)

  • i love living in kentucky

  • oh yeah u are so fucking nice why do u do that u are so mean fuck u

  • ur daughter is weird

  • i love horses and racing when im older i ether want to be in a race or see one most likely to see

  • horse racing is a dying industry. RIP

  • you know mine that bird is from new mexico

  • i hate people who eat horse meat i chould slice their heads off and i mean it

  • @Lilly1670 it is an enjoyable meat the textures are to die for the juice just drip from your mouth do some experiment with seasoning and im sure you'll fall in love

  • @Lilly1670 i usally do this my kids loves this just go crazy for it. Care must be taken when cooking horse meat because it is very tender and requires little time to cook. For maximum tenderness, it is always preferable to sear the meat quickly then reduce the heat until the meat is done. Depending on personal taste, most cuts of horse meat can be eaten pink. Horse meat has the inconvenience of being extremely fragile so it is easily contaminated, particularly ground meat. so be careful

  • @Lilly1670 whats your feelings on horse glue?..

  • @Lilly1670 Whats your feelings on Horse glue , because my daughter loves horse meat, she even does the slaughtering .. shes 8 We once tried the veal technique by locking a baby horse in a stall for a yr so it couldn't move, we named him stew; then her and her little friends built a hello kitty guillotine. it tasted pretty good .

  • @rasprenkle1 you make me SOO sick! i wish i could call animal control on you!

  • So in order to be an effective horse racer you have to be short and light? I truly don't know.

  • @xprofessorelliot yeah pretty much!

  • would u shut up i have a race horse and im only 11 and the riders have to be about 120 125 lbs and about 5 foot 2 so SHUT UP and stop saying that stuf

  • would u shut up i have a race horse and im only 11 and the riders have to be about 120 125 lbs and their about 5 foot 2 so SHUT UP

  • AWESOME RACE!!!!!!!!!!! >:D

  • ya what a joke..i bet the horses dick are bigger than the riders themselves...in fact i bet you more people watch this stupid ass sport to admire the size of the horses dicks than actually give a shit about who wins

  • Hey guys look at me. I can be 4'11" 80lbs and ride a horse. What skill. Horse racing is for half sized retards who cannot do anything else with their petite frames. Good job, god made you weak. Enjoy doing everything life that I can do worse than me.

  • NICE burst of speed on the inside, very explosive move.

  • he barely patted the horse when it won :/

  • I love it how he gets excited at the enf

  • Little Bird sneaks through.

  • American horse racing will never be like european first you need a good commentator .

  • Comment removed

  • @Clonliffeac2009 euro commentators, and european racing is garbage

  • Amazing how they miscalled this race , he was 3 lenghts in front before they even called his name

  • I remember this race clearly. As I had absolutely no idea who ANY of the horses were, I figured it was Pioneerof the Nile in the lead, but then he started calling Mine That Bird, and I was like,"Oh. Well, go Mine That Bird!" lol I didn't want Pioneer to win anyway because he was one of the favorites. Hope you have a great and relaxing retirement Mine That Bird!

  • I challenge anyone to direct me to a racecall in a major race that is more incompetent than this one. MTB had run away with the race before this guy even mentioned the horse.

  • It's hysterical to see Mine That Bird just come out of nowhere without the announcer realizing until he's a few lengths in the lead. Great race. Love upsets like these.

  • Mud freak, never would have won on a fast dry track. Same crap happened again this past year. lol

  • stop torturing these horses why dont you leave them alone, and stop hitting them in the back to make them go faster!!

  • @normalguyable it doesn't hurt the horses

  • @accebernosam you are a animal abusing coward!! they make money off them they could care less about their health, or else theyw ould not sell them to canada for slaughter afterwards!!

  • @normalguyable animal abusing coward??? so how does saying whipping horses doesn't hurt them, make me a coward? sell the to canada for slaughter.. yeah..sure they do...check your facts, coward (just giving you a taste of your own medicine, coward)

  • @normalguyable - Alright PETA boy GO cry on another page where somebody would actually give a FUCK about your opinion. I groom horses, and I love them to death, A true horseman would never allow anything to happen to their horses if they had a conscious. I treat every horse in my care like a part of the family, and enjoy watching them romp around the Paddock when turned out , and see their Innocence. I bet you have NEVER been to a farm??. oh and 99% horse people are against horse Slaughter.

  • @Nucleo85Torino How dare you assume because YOU care for horses that the people in this racing industry give a rat's ass about these horses? They do not care. They ONLY care about MONEY. There was a day when horse racing was Noble when it began in the Middle East. They worshipped their horses and understood the bond between the Spirits. Make all of the excuses you like but in the Eyes of God this is wrong BECAUSE money is involved. I love horses more than I love people and I hate men especially.

  • @futbolangel02 i love money

  • @Nucleo85Torino why 99%?

  • @tiggle5485 - There is always that 1% my friend who don't give a shit. Go ask the the owners of the GREAT Ferdinand who was the 1986 Kentucky Derby winner, and 1987 Breeders Cup Classic champion who was sent to Japan, and then ultimately slaughtered. That is why.

  • @normalguyable You speak the truth. People that enjoy betting and making money off of the exploitation of these horses will defend this sport until their death so they can make some cash. Sick and selfish humans. Only concerned about making money. Fun Fact....Adolf Hitler was the first to make it illegal to abuse animals. Another Fun Fact...those Jews that he was accused of murdering are the very same people that run the horse racing industry. I'm thinking Hitler was a pretty cool dude.

  • @futbolangel02 There's people like that EVERYWHERE, not just in horse racing, in every sports including animals. But there's also a LOOOOTTT of good people, owners, trainers...etc who LOVED their horses and spend thousands and thousands of $ to care for them. And look the millions of $ spend in research for safety, the new reglementation after the big story in 2007. Obviously you don't know about anything at all. We're not in the 30s anymore

  • @futbolangel02 and since you don't know anything about horses, you also don't know that horses only do what THEY want. You obviously don't know about thoses horses who decided to stay in the gate and not run cause they didn't want to. You can push a horse if you want, he'll only give his all if he WANT to. And you also didn't know that there's really severe reglementation on the whip in many states

  • @futbolangel02 Wow.

  • @futbolangel02 you are so fucking retarded.

  • @futbolangel02 You know, I enjoy betting sometimes, and I LOSE most of the time, but I STILL LOVE THIS SPORT. You know why? Because I love horses, especially these beautiful thoroughbreds. They are born and bred to run and love doing it. I don't know why you think you know so much about the people in the racing industry, but I've been following this sport for years, and everything I've seen makes me think that most people DO IN FACT care for the horses. I'm sick of hearing this uninformed rant.

  • @normalguyable - CANADA?.....Go scream to Japan first asshole, they supply asia, and Europe with the meat. That is a FAR larger market then Canada, or North America for that instance.

  • @Nucleo85Torino go eat your meat and drink your cows milk murderer, while the rest of us save animals from humans who are the worst animal on earth.

  • @normalguyable dude, WTF.

it doesn't hurt the horses, hell they barely feel it! Most of the time racing jockeys do that to remind them that they are in a race and they can't give up. And jockeys are the people who know the horse best, so they now how to run them. They probably care about the horses most. ckeck your facts before you think you know everything.

  • @normalguyable It's not animal abuse. They are just making the horses give all that they got, and remind them of what to do. It doesn't hurt them. And why leave this horses alone? They are BORN to race. Litterally. And all the good horses are good because they love to race. Not because they are beeing whipped forward.

  • I love how Mine that Bird is mentioned 1 minute into the race with a quick mumbling something about how he's way behind the rest (Including the 17th place horse ) then after seeing a horse blow the doors off the rest of the field, we get to hear just as he is about finish the race hey yeah - it's Mine that Bird who is now a dozen or so lengths ahead of the rest of the field. Kind of reminds me of Street Sense's win in the Breeder's cup (Come to think of it, that might have been Calvin as well!)

  • @jlkjoyful I believe it was. I know he rode Street Sense in the '07 Derby.

  • That last Min Was like Secretaiat's Run. When Secretaiat was racing my dad was 8!

I loved that. I wanna be a Jockey when i grow up!!

My pony is named Roxie she is a cute pony and am 8. She is 11

  • That last Min Was like Secretaiat's Run. When Secretaiat was racing my dad was 8!

  • wow i wish i were there before this race and the same results were to come i would put like 55 million on him then its 50 to one i would never work again

  • always loved that horse. :) <3i love mine that bird.

  • always loved that horse. :) <3

  • It's MINE That Bird, people. Not Mind.

  • i remember when me, my mom, and her boyfriend were watching that race we all picked a horse to win (me-mind that bird, mom-chocolate candy, moms bf-pioneer of the Nile) whos ever horse came closest to winning got $15... they told me to give up my $5 then the announcer yelled about mind that bird and all 3 of us were awestruck

  • Considering there hasn't been a Triple Crown winner in over 30 years, MTB finishing in the money in all 3 TC races is a hellava accomplishment.

  • nice derby win, sucks he hasn't won a race since. hasn't even made the board, they should retire him cause it seems like his heart isn't in racing anymore :( we'll MTB luvers, he's running in the BC Mile this Sat. if you want to see him.

  • don't know what was worse - the state of the track or the commentator. i'll keep our melbourne cup anyday!! that was just awful. the caller kept running out of breath, missed horses, at 1:10 after calling the leader and called the clear 2nd horse as 3rd??? then didn't call the winner until it crossed the line after winning by 6 lengths!! funny stuff.

  • @andy55055 he is one of the greatest racing callers of all times, people have bad days.

  • @Zenyatta20

i think you mean "a VERY bad day." that was just awful from start to finish, not such an improtant race though - just the kentucky derby. if he's your best ever i'd love to listen to the worst ever.

  • Calvin Borel , one hell of a jockey, remember always bet on the jockey not the horse, a great jockey can lead a shitty horse any day of the week.

  • amazing grace!

  • Amazing race!

  • can't beat secratariat!!!

  • Not to take away from Mine that birds performance!!!! He ran a incredible derby.....

But and i think you will all agree....This wasn't the greatest crop of 3 year olds.....And in the preakness Rachel entered and went wire to wire....But mind that bird came at her hard at the end...Mind that bird was a legitiment derby winner wasn't no fluke

  • Still amazing to watch.

  • that was absolutely amazing! he exploded out of no where!!!

  • newsnetscotland click on sport

  • DURKIN was a jerkin the gherkin way before the Bird Flew , He had his money elsewhere ; Thats it......

  • Awesome Race!

  • sea biscuit still the legend

  • @zaidicbb Give me a break, theres been alot better racers from across the world than that. I suppose your just saying that cause youve seen the film!!! LOL

  • @jenniesimpson76 film is based on true story. after watching that movie, i start to like horse racing sport.

  • @jenniesimpson76 Really? Secretariat's records still stand, almost 40 years later. If you know of a 'better racer' please tell us.

  • Hello there was only one horse making a big move and he couldnt figure it out until MIND THAT BIRD flew in front of him.

  • "that is, uh... MTB now who's coming on to take the lead..."

phrases to avoid after a 3 length lead has already been established.

all right i'll let it go. to his credit he called a wonderful race for barbaro!

  • @Kulaness agree, not the easiest call when 1 of 20 sneaks past em all on the inside like that, still tho, it was pretty bad ... but despite the fact that MTB already had roses around his neck by the time Durkin figured out his name, i actually had more of an issue when he yelled "Pioneer of the Nile!!!" @ 1:49 as if he was leavin em' all when there was hardly a change if any w/the front 4 coming home. he should have saved that outburst for MTB.

  • great race but truly awful call!!mind that bird was 4 lengths clear b4 the commentator even noticed him!!

  • He is not a bad horse either, or at least he wasn't until the lung surgery. He won the Derby, placed 2nd in the Preakness, and Showed (3rd) in the Belmont, something that isn't often seen with modern hothouse flowered 3 year olds.

  • What a sprint!

  • When i saw this, i became interested in horse racing :)

  • Comment removed

  • I have NO business in kentucky. I vowed to the horse heads mounted paralell to my front door i would never go to kentucky. REMEMBER to always offer the sacred horse heads a gift or yoj will be leaving with more than you bargened for

  • @NationalSocialistFYI Whut?????????????

  • well i wouldnt call it a bad call the caller did.he is very good.have you not made a bad call.who would have thought that would have been mind that bird anyhow.but what puzzles me.how can mine that bird to so well here and now cannot beat horse out of a pasture.that was his day i guess.oh and dont bet zenyetta next race

  • worst call all time, man he was 3 lengths in front before he called his name, it was an anti climax.

  • 1:04 (Well behind the rest of them is Mine That Bird)

2:00 (Now, on the inside coming on through that is ah, Mine That Bird)

  • poor horses!!

  • WOW! where'd he come from?!?!? Mine that bird such a streak,,,all the way from south to north!!

  • go kentucky!

  • Watching this always gets me going!

  • GO GO GO!!!!

  • I Want Revenge! bit . ly/jerku

  • Calvin 'The Rail' wins again!

  • these races are so uptight and interesting, but it is sad about how many accidents happen in races - all races.

  • "MIND THAT BIRD HAS WON THE KENTUCKY DERBY, AN IMPOSSIBLE RESULT HERE" - Classic line

  • @donutdude143 MINE that bird, it is. And its as bad a call as you will find, Durkin never saw what happened.

  • Tom Dirkin was late on the call.

  • good, not great horse; Great circumstances helped him win: heavily contested pace set up a 'closer'+wet track (fit his pedigree)+rail bias when wet at Churchill (made move on inside to benefit from surface)

  • Tom Durkin: The best of all times!

  • why do the chesnut horses always win why can't that beautiful black horse win

  • @Taylor5ist the winner was a bay....

  • @henrigruffydd can't it be called a chesnut too? I thought that if it's that color then it can be called a chesnut

  • @Taylor5ist No, the coppery colored ones are chestnuts and those are bays...maybe some people call them chestnuts, idk...it is always bays and chestnuts who win though.

  • @henrigruffydd Yeah
