  • Steve you share so much of yourself, your life with us all online. Thank you. It's very inspiring for us all. And the "Middle of Everywhere" excellent name, very cosmic, as God is flowing through you, and all of us through your work. I met you once 20 years ago, just a shy kid, but you were kind to me and my friends. I doubt you'd remember, but you were just played with Whitesnake in Edmonton and Alberta, and you and Adrian Vandenburg went out for a beer with a few of us.

  • to continue the story, we had a beer with you guys, my friends and I had snakes as pets....Adrian may remember this as he was invited over to view the 17 foot Burmese. Anyway you were kind enough to pose for pics with us....sadly they didn't know how to work the camera and all the photos blurred. I was the kid who handed you a cassette jack and a CD to sign. You tried multiple times to sign the CD jacket without success. However, it transfered the ink inside the jacket. For everything ty

  • I will always remember that time fondly, and just wish I wasn't so shy as to talk a little shop with you. I know it's a time you're unlikely to remember, if you even read this. You've inspired me, my music and my continuing direction, I look forward to hearing and immersing myself in "The Middle of Everywhere". What I have heard of it so far is brilliant.

  • With a video like this we truly see why Steve is a true genius, not only is he the god a guitar playing, but a real true artist. So much work went into this composition I can't wait to hear it.

  • Vai is a musical God

  • Like I said Vai is the "Frank Lloyd Wright" of music!

  • I'm speechless...

  • This is great!

  • You can definitely see the Zappa influence at work here. Nice work!

  • I know what you mean about the beauty of written music. It was thanks to you that I taught myself music theory, because I want to be able to express my thoughts and feelings in a way beyond drums, to full compositions.

I guess what I'm saying is, you are a god as far as music goes. I hope to one day reach a level of musicianship on my instrument that you have reached on guitar, and to be a competent composer in your vein.

    Also, the 5/16 section is really interesting....love odd-times :)

  • Steve Vai drinks Snapple? Time to load up on that stuff.

    How Cute :3

This is gonna be epic :D

  • It's all good, but... what about the guitar?

  • Comment removed

  • @ArtKun95

    it's like contemporary classical music.

he's more than just a guitarist.

  • This may be admirable, but I prefer a catchy piece than this complex contemporary classical style or whatever. For me, "Fire Garden suite" is the thing. But this is just my personal tastes (and I suppose the same as 80% of steve vai fans).

This doesn't mean i don't want to hear these pieces! but i won't play them again and again as his "regular" albums.

  • Looking forward to hearing it completed and performed as intended.

  • I can't wait.

  • What's amazing is that, from what I have heard of this piece, it sounds like a Steve Vai piece. Almost like one of his solo records.

  • I would imagine its Andy that manages this profile on YT, so Andy where gonna get an updated harmony hut tour?

  • Hey Steve! All the dissonance mixed with sugar for the common ear, I get it! Thanks for being there your master class wizardry! You have been my sole inspiration for music. It makes sense for me because your perspective style pretty much covers the entire spectrum. Also, since the electric guitar has always been my true desire in music you got that enigmatic instrument pretty much invented. You take the electric guitar and make it everything it can ever be. Electric guitar always reminded me o

  • $18,000 a night???!! --- not really my cup of tea of music, but you are cool and very talented beyond what I had conceived. You look just like your mom. ;) Rest in Peace, Mrs. Vai.

  • the computer generated notes make it sound like mario music. What song/songs is that guitar in the beginning from?

  • steve.. I am amazed at your musical genius....

  • very cool insight. Thanks for sharing

  • steve looks heaps like his mum

  • 5:16 my respects to Mrs. Vai :(

  • Steve, yer nuts. Please stay that way :)

  • Can't wait for the CD/DVD release.

  • I live near Drachten! :D

i will see you there steve!

  • Steve is inspiring!!!!

  • Haha he is just a pure genius. steve is great

  • captivating . . . transporting . . . meliflous . . . joyful . . . "~ ~ If I were a rich man ~ ~" I'd fly to Holland just to be at this concert.

  • @Austyg How I wish I could also fly to Holland. The man is so inspiring,I mean the work that goes into his compositions is incredible.Hopefully he will release these concerts on DVD.

  • I think you left a few measures without a time signature change. You might see to that.

  • My favorite guitarist.

  • He looks kinda like Brad Paisley with his short hair

  • And sorry to hear about your mother :o

  • Fucking cannot wait!!!

  • WHEN ??? WHEN WE CAN HEAR THIS MASTER PIECE!?!? PLZ!!

  • thank you for your music Steve Vai ! i love the way you express your music! i love your compositions and the thing that you are not only one of the best guitarist in the world but THE MUSICIAN ! i love the feelings of your music and thanks for what you have done for the guitar in the years! thank u very much!

  • And Steve I think you would become a great videogame composer :)

  • @peelopuu i think that he's more than just a backing track on a video game!

  • @160895andy Well I know that! But I'm just saying he could anything and still be very awesome at it!!!!!!

  • And I just listened the Riddle from Passion and warfare. what an instrumental!

  • I LOOVE those glasses. Makes you look very intelligent and cool at same time. And I think those kind of glasses were hip in the 70's.

  • you are inspiration for all musicians..

  • Dear Stevie. I was introduced to Passion and Warfare for 20 years ago and have always been a fan. I seen you on stage twice but it took me 15 years to understand your music and 18 before you became my Justin Bieber/guru, and the reason why I just got an Ibanez Universe 777P – Please Steve, will you get your long hair back again, I beg you :-)

  • sorry to hear about your mother passing

  • sibeliusDOTcom

  • the software might be Sibelius

  • These in depth insights to your orchestral works are fantastic! Would love to see more of these.

  • I'm going to Gronigen to see steve performing \m/

  • Sorry for your loss Steve.

  • If i come to the consert what are my chances of meeting you? ;)

  • I dig it Steve

  • I'm sure(hope) after all this hard work VAI has done composing this music, he will have it recorded for some kind of release. I'm looking forward to hearing it.. I love what he did in Holland with the METRO ORKEST.

  • 2:51 How's that for drumkit from Hell, EZDrummer? Mike Mangini's got a HUGE kit! No way he uses the whole thing! (It is Mike Mangini, right?)

  • Wow never seen Mr. Vai with short hair. I guess the older you get the shorter the hair lol.

  • this remind me of mozart, lol

  • what software is that ?

  • Sorry for your loss steve.

  • This guy is a hopefull breath to the future of music.

  • sweet.

  • did anyone trip out after 11 minutes?

  • Magic !

  • Steve, you are an amazing man. I can't say any more than that. You are amazing!

  • sounds very Vai, how unlike him. lol

  • This looks and sounds like it will be something extraordinary Steve, I truly hope there will be a DVD released for it!

  • Dear Steve,

    You're crazy.

    Sincerely,

    Hiddos

    PS: See you there :)

  • 15:48 The Vai start up sound.

  • Love you Steve; Thanks for sharing !!

  • LOL drodgden, its draKHten :)

  • The music between 9:30 and 10:30 sort of reminded me of the piano intro to "The lamb lies down on Broadway" by Genesis (from the album with the same title). It is a great piano intro played by the great Tony Banks, which features these fast sixteen-note counterpoints (contrappunti in Italian), played in different keys....has a similar feel as this piece Steve played in this video....

I love how great minds, on occasions, have the tendency to use what they learned, and take it somewhere new! :-)

  • What a journey in the composition! And to top it off, the concert will have both Stravinsky and Rachmaninoff! I really wish I could be there.

  • Brilliant !

  • Who would expect less... Hope to see this documented!

  • Simply put: thanks for the music!

    george

  • VAI is the "Frank Lloyd Wright" of music! WOW!

  • Some people really love what they do :)

  • confirmation - Steve Vai thinks in raca-tuca-paca-tuca language :-)

  • you worked 12 hours for 12 minutes? Man... :D... you take it seriously

It's a pleasure watching you :). I don't know how many artists make movies during compositions, like you do, but I know I love it.

May the inspiration be with you :)

  • Dovresti scrivere un po più a levare... a levarici manu

  • Now you are talking music .Great video and all work of heart. In this reality of the Universe. We need more teacher like you out there.Teaching the next one that with innovation and hard honest work comes with its own prosperity. • Gods, I wish I could be there for the performance!

Much love to you always, Steve :-)

  • Loved you for many years Steve and I do love Franks music as well.....but i would love to see you get back to more guitar oriented material...dare i say "Alien Love Secrets 2" That would be awesome....just saying

  • this is unusual : i love it

  • omfg... I'm unworthy, I'm dust ...

  • my god, so many notes. so many notes XD

  • very avant-garde of you steve

  • great insight..

  • very cool !!

  • i lost my mum in 2005 steve i know it hurts, my sympathies. keep on loving and living :)

  • This is in the middle of nowhere i lost track

  • Sorry to hear about your mom

  • Steve, not for me pal. Love your guitar stuff though. Alan silvestri predator theme, that's a composition !

  • I love that content in awesome look he gives the camera at the end. But the music was good. I wish I could go see it

  • It's like a cross between Stravinsky's 'Firebird' and maybe something that Schoenberg might have written. You are a genius Steve. It's late as I write this and I should go to bed, but I suddenly have the urge to pick up my guitar. Thanks for the music, Steve.

  • To be honest with you, that sounds awful. I appreciate you know exactly what you're doing/writing, it must take a lot of effort; but it sounds like a car accident.

  • uggh

  • 04:57 that woman was the inspiration for that page.

  • Everything you say, the way you think, the way you hear music, it reminds me of my best friend. He admires you so much, and I know someday he is going to meet you, and maybe jam with you.

  • He cut his air?

  • Writing 12 seconds of music in about 12 hours... Love it. Steve, you are a genius and indeed, as @taez555 said, Frank would be proud. I am proud to call you mentor!

  • People will look back on Steve Vai's music and critique the hell out of it, give his music a genre, and teach it with reverence like Beethoven and Mozart one day.

  • Pastel Vinettes performance=Spatial View & #DeeCentral. Imagine the notes flying off the orchestras sheet music, flying in 3D all around the musicians and stage.

  • Wow, really fascinating!

  • forever loving your music steve, keep up the amazing work! I look forward to seeing you live

  • very zappa

  • Thanks for sharing! Made me think of Bartok; but as you say, with a nice American shred edge......can't wait to hear live.

  • Beautiful

  • mad scientist.

  • very zappa, very awesome.

  • The Middle of Everywhere is a very fitting title. Just that computer generated bit alone had images of the universe and what events might unfold in it running through my head!

  • I wish I could play WITH you!

  • The fact that you were one of the main reasons why I study composition prevents me from making fun of that hat...

  • Steve, you're a GREAT, GREAT Man!! \m/ wish I could play like you!

  • nice to see someone so passionate at something, its rare to see that type of passion in people these days

  • @Rrrrrrrriot It is out there. Just not in the mainstream.
