Winter's Bone was like a prelude to The Hunger Games.. in this movie she loses a father, take care of a catatonic mother, take care of her siblings, actually heaving the weight of raising the family over her teenage shoulders. plus she knows of basic survival skills. Very much like Katniss Everdeen. she's downright perfect for it.

I think she's got a good attitude for the role. She's very frank when she speaks, which is pure Katniss. She's grounded and composed instead of being superficially feisty.
It's important to remember that Katniss' role in THG isn't 'Super Heroine Saves the Day and Gets the Boy.' It's more like, 'Down On Her Luck Girl Goes Through Hell.'

I think with oscar worthy acting, more doesn't equal better...it's the subtleties or realistic mannerisms which depict that of actual people that helps us completely buy into their role.. she did good with that.

Never heard of this girl, but just watching the trailer and watching this interview you can tell that she's a moralistic grounded individual. I like her already. Will look for her in the future.
I still haven't seen Winter's Bone but I like her already. She seems so genuine. I want to be an actress myself and I pretty much sare her opinions and points of view.

I only saw Winter Bone's trailer, she looks convincing in it. In interview ,she's funny and articulate. To get recognition as oscar nominee at 19 yo, that is admirable. This girl is not just some pretty face

...so I was against her being cast as Katniss when the news first broke, but after watching this and some clips of Winter's Bone I've changed my mind.
I think she's got a good attitude for the role. She's very frank when she speaks, which is pure Katniss. She's grounded and composed instead of being superficially feisty.
It's important to remember that Katniss' role in THG isn't 'Super Heroine Saves the Day and Gets the Boy.' It's more like, 'Down On Her Luck Girl Goes Through Hell.'

I would rather have a great actress like Jennifer Lawrence who doesn't exactly look like what I pictured Katniss as than a horrible actress who just fits the description and has no talent... I'm very happy with this casting. She will do the part of Katniss justice.

Tbh, I don't care about how she looks, for me the SINGLE most important thing is that she can pull off the Katniss personality and attitude and that she can act with a real passion and by the sound/looks of it she will!

There is hair dye, she can tan, and they can use computer technology to make her skin look darker.her being older allows more and better options for peeta because they can't have a 14 yr old (hailee) making out with a 20 yr old guy, that would be wrong. And hailee is so young she is bound to change a bit in the next few years, and it should be consistent for sequels, just my opinion

@lookatdoor i'm just saying if people r worried about skin color, there r things that can be done.Whoever they cast is going to run into similar issues because no one is going to fit Katniss exactly as in the books 4 everyone, at least not physically We’ll find something to get picky about From everything we’ve seen of her acting and the talk of her audition being amazing and blowing everyone away, we know she could handle and understand a character like Katniss. her ability goes beyond looks

I think with oscar worthy acting, more doesn't equal better...it's the subtleties or realistic mannerisms which depict that of actual people that helps us completely buy into their role.. she did good with that.

This is a very realistic movie about people that I feel like I know. They got it so close to being what life can be like below the poverty line in the Ozarks and the way some people with limited choices decide on a criminal life to get by and some choose the way of long-suffering. The movie is PAINFULLY realistic at times and this girl nails it. Great Job Ms. Lawrence. Hope you get all the accolades you deserve for your performance.
