This is why I use only a single, single point, barbless hook when kayak fishing. Less hooks to stab yourself or your gear with even if theres a chance of losing fish I think its worth it.

Not only that but rigging all your gear with single point, barbless can comply with the various "anti-snagging" policies and other gear limitations.

And first and foremost, its better for the fish. Less injury if you plan on releasing.

@dlvmark It doesnt really matter about the size kayak, just rent one and go out of La Jolla. Or if youre too scared too mess with a kayak they have deep sea trips you can go on

To answer your question how to catch Thresher Shark. I've use live 10" Mackerel and also Rapala CD-14 in Sardine,Mackerel or Mullet pattern works well.

The rod that I use is Calstar GFGR 700M, a Shimano TLD20 loaded with 30lb.Maxima line, 12' x 100lb mono filament leader. I slow troll 40' behind kayak. For live bait I use 2/0 Gorilla Owner hook.

Yes I am OK and still fishing. I have been fly fishing for trout which is something new to me and more of a challenge. I've just got back from a long trip fly fishing and now busy doing catch up work around the house.
