  • Our grandfathers were the best generation of Americans. They were hardworking, honest, and sincere. Their sacrifices made America the greatest country in the world.

Today America is dominated by a whole generation of Ann Coulters. They're all heartless, ruthless, and self-centered. It's because of these young hardnosed skankies that our country is falling apart.

  • I have just recently retired with 30 years of service in the Marine Corps. I have had the great honor to serve these great veterans for the last five years. Working every day looking for, generate funds and fly these vets to DC to see the WWII memorial. Honor Flight brings WWII vets free to DC. If you know one send them our way while we can...

  • they did not go because they were forced they did not go for glory they did not go for territorial gain they went because there was an evil in the world that need to be stopped they went to protect their country they went because it was the right thing to do and they went without any regard for thier own safety but safety of the man next to them and the people they were liberating thats what makes them the greatest generation a generation my grandfather was proudly apart of.

  • And when he gets to Heaven,

To Saint Peter he will tell,

One more soldier reporting in sir,

I've served my time in hell.

  • "Peace is a precious and a desirable thing. Our generation, bloodied in wars, certainly deserves peace. But peace, like almost all things of this world, has its price, a high but a measurable one. We in Poland do not know the concept of peace at any price. There is only one thing in the lives of men, nations and countries that is without price. That thing is honor." J.BECK

  • Ive heard stories about this war from my grandfatehrs and great Uncles that give me nightmares. These men and women deserve so much more than what they were given

  • @lucifer898 Indeed they do. The war was so bad that there are not enough books to contain the horrors of it. I have read and studied this war for a long time and I still to this day see new things and read new stories that shock me to the core. God bless them all...they are my hero's.

  • This is so sad... God bless America, honor all of her heros

  • I agree with you likeaglove123. With each year that passes people are forgetting more and more about WW2 and the importance of those veterans. Sad. I like the story about you posting that to fb. Interesting to hear the response you received from likes.

  • the one tht said " know what it took to be free?" i posted it to my facebook page 431 people liked it adn i also put it on the same date as d-day june 6. i got so frustrated tht know won knew! also pearl harbor. not every1. i counted. those same days, i rounded it up to about 1,496. every1 knows when their god forsakin x-box or ps3 came. lets all try to remeber the veterans of this horrible war. also, saigon, the cold cold front in korea and operation iraq freedom, please lets remeber those men

  • it is a shame that we're loosing heros like them, wish the best for all the good vets araund the world!! god bless all of them!!

  • I just wanted to thank all the allies that were in this war , the one who died , the ones who have survived , the ones who are still alive. I`m a militar , My father was also in the military and was in war but for diferent political reasons and in a diferent time and many stories he tells me of those days in his war ( GERRA COLINAL ). I have the profound respect for all the veterans of all nationalities .

Just a young man born in 1983 from PORTUGAL with great respect for all the veterans.

  • @Liuyifeng19 russia was just as bad as Germany ass whipe! we lost millions of soldiers including two of my great uncles! if you don't like this video you can go FUCK YOURSELF!!! it's twice we saved your week asses ww1 and ww2!!! didint your momma teach you any manners when you was humping her!? stupid little shit!

  • being the grandson of a US army sergeant i never really understood why he didint want to talk about the war but after finding out he was in 2nd rangers on omaha beach he said he was in one of the first wave of troops and after seeing the film saving private ryan i understood why he didin't want to talk about it i love my grandpa his last words to be were "peace is not found it is earned by great cost" R.I.P. sergeant Tommy. he wasent just a veteran to me he was my best friend and my grandpa.

  • @Liuyifeng19 Of all the comments I have responded to through the years of posting videos on Youtube, this one stands apart as the most ignorant and stupid of all of them. Being an obvious U.S. basher as you are, you have shown quite easily how little much you know about this war and how vital Americas part was in the war. I tell you what asshole.... go to France and ask them why it is they don't speak German today! Lets see how quickly one of them mentions Russia or China in the conversation.

  • One cannot compare our country today to that of then. It was once a God fearing country but no more. I would not consider giving my life or anyone elses anymore as I once did. And it breaks my heart..

  • If you ever see an old man wearing a VFW cap or a young man wearing an OIF, OEF t-shirt you might wanna shake his hand and say thanks.

chances are he's see'n and lived through a hell you'll never have to know or live through thank's to him !

We suffer through so much that most of you will never know about or understand.

Some of you just dont get why we do it.

But for those of you that do undestand us and why we do it........ Thank you !

    Semper Fi

  • no canadians?

  • @MrBuzzingbeaver There most likely is a Canadian or two in the video. Not all vets wear their traditional uniforms or insignias.

  • i wish my grandpa was still alive i would hav liked to listen to his storyies but its to late for that now

  • Pv 1st Class William (Bill) Caudle U.S. Army WWII, Sgt, Charles (Chuck) Caudle WWII U.S. Army, Pv 1st Class Luther Caudle U.S. Army WWII , Lt. Charles (Charlie) Starr U.S. Navy WWII, Cpl. • On this Memorial Day, I cannot let it pass as the author of this video without a special mention to my own family who served. Having now watched the new series "The Pacific", I am even more heartbroken and aware of how great the sacrifice during this war really was. For each of you veterans that have served......Thank You. In fond memory of Gun.Sgt. William (Bill) Carter U.S. Army WWII, Cpl. David Caudle U.S. Navy WWII,

  • I accidently deleted the last comment on this page. So very sorry. It was pure accident. Please repost your tribute to your veterans. I apologize. I hit the button by mistake.

  • Thank you daddy. Captain William A. Robie, United States Navy, WWII

  • nowadays, almost nothing makes me cry anymore. My grandpa was a Resistance Leader in North Italy from 41 to 45. He was an awesome men and was grateful to the Americans that went help them fighting against Fascism; Grateful until the day he died. And Im sure he still is, wherever he is now...

  • Thank you for the tribute. These lads were all young ounce .I wish my Dad was still around to tell me the tales of WW2.God bless em all.

  • my grandpa told me a story of a old civil war vet thats use to tell him his war stories when he was a boy he is 78 now

  • 50 years from now they all will be gone take the time to talk to one.

  • these great men will always and forever have my respect

  • nice video my grandad served 6 years in ww2 lost many of his friends in the war there ship was sunk just of the coast of anzio while attacking germans who were holding off the american soldiers 18th feb 1944 HMS Penelope one of the best ships in the war went through many battles had books wrote about the ship awarded heroes of malta the most bombed place in ww2 every man on the penelope was a hero as were many many men of the war RIP HMS PEPPERPOT

  • I have many family members I have unfortantly never met. I know of one (there may be 2) of my great great uncles who were in pearl harbor when it was bombed.

  • what about the pacific theatre? how come that most of ww2 tributes are from the european theatre? That is not fair!

  • Without trying to sound disrespectful my friend. Some of the veterans in this video are Pacific war vets. Did you not see the Marine's Iwo Jima Statue near the end??

  • my bad.. I apologize

  • No big deal. At least you are passionate enough to about the subject to say something. God bless.

  • For Freedom brothers in arms,

We will never forget! Together we are strong in defiance of fascism and oppression!

  • my grandfathers brothers fought in ww2, but as partisans in yugoslavia. in that war, my grandad lost 3 of his brothers and his father...

  • It was because of your uncles that many downed American pilots were saved. I know the story well. They were in a group called "Tito's Partisans" and many of them wore German uniforms to throw off and confuse the Germans. The Partisans were very good at smuggling pilots across enemy held ground and back into Allied territory. They even saved some of the pilots from the famed Tuckaseegee Airmen. My hats off to your relatives for bravely taking care of our boys and fighting the Nazi's!

  • My grandfather was in WWII. He died and I wish I could've taken the time to talk to him about his service. I am dreading the day no more WWII vets will be alive.

  • @LINAZAS no, they just regroup and have a beer.

  • an estimated 70 millon people lost their lives in ww2.more than half were civilans war is the worst thing in this world of hatred and coldness

  • God Bless all men and women that served in WWII and my prayers go out to those families who had a loved one killed.

  • just think of it, every white cross resembles a persons life secrefised for our (Europeans) their freedom.

    respect

  • My grandpa died in 06 and he was a WW2 Navy vet. The American Legion participated at his funeral. It was extremely moving...I'll always miss him.

    RIP Poppy

  • Does anyone know where the soundtrack came from?

  • Its from the soundtrack to the movie "Road to Perdition" with Tom Hanks.

  • Soon all these men will be gone and all we will have to remember them by is their memories.

  • I thank god for these brave men at my grandpas funeral ww2 veterans came to it did there respects and the 21 gun salute I miss him so much.

  • I can really relate to that as I lost my grandfather, a WW2 vet, last Sept 12. The American Legion vets showed and buried him with full military honors, same as yours. It was a powerful moment. I will never forget it. I will never forget him as well. William Allen (Bill) Carter, U.S. Army 1941-1945.

  • Those are true heroes.

  • yes they are.

  • Take a minute of silence for them...

  • I do every day.

  • Your grandpas is a hero for me! I'll take a minutes of silence for him and for all ww2 veterans!

  • This video is truley worthy. It does them all Justice! Thank you.

  • They deserve so much more than what little I can do. Everyday now we are losing so many of them. Thank you for your comment.

  • :52 holy crap can u imagine sitting there 60 years later and looking at that same scene that u were at with a rifle and your men by ur side being shot at. jesus that is what i call some serious memories right there

  • it doesn`t matter if they were American or German soldiers, all of them were brave on the front and none of them knew what they were fighting for.

  • You missed out the British, dont forget we were going at them 3 years earlier

  • I didn`t refer to Americans and Germans, I was refering to any soldier that has ever fighted in the second world war

  • Sorry wasnt trolling, just seems to be alot of people who think WW2 was USA vs Germany especialluy hollywood

Romania sent more of an invasion force into Russia than Germany did initially so history says

All soldiers deserve respect and tributes all the nations leaders deserve the judgement

  • it is true, because of the American propaganda people ``not so smart`` would say that the war was Germany vs. America, but America lost very little people in the second war and her economy was haveing no problem, but the economy in Europe was the most affected by the war, and this is how America managed to become one of the Big Powers of the world.

I think that if it wastn`t for UKs implication in the ww2, the war should have ended 200 days sooner than it had ended.

  • those 200 days would have left the germans enough time to discover the nuclear weapon, which could had changed the political map of Earth, and alos kill maybe another 10 milion people.Because, you know, the Germans needed just another 500 kilos or so of Uranium, and they could have made the fatal discovery.

  • They did have enough uramium, but we destroyed their heavy water supply. so they could not have made the bomb.

  • I do not belive so, I checked again and it said that there was not enough uranium for the tests and the bomb itself

  • To every soldier from every country who fought against the axis in this war: Thank you.

To every German, Italian, and Japanese people who saw through their leaders fanaticsm and fascism and did whatever they could to fight against their own leaders: You are the unsung heroes of this war. Glory to you.

Glory to the free people of the world!

  • most of the japanese loved there leader they thought of him as a god they will eve die for him

  • this tribute is truly touching

    God bless our veterans

    we can't thank you enough

  • lobby first the Filipino veterans for their benefits that the US promised to them,...The Filipino Guerillas were the one who fought side by side by the US during world war 2 here in asia pacific, especially here in the Phillipines...

  • lobby first the Filipino veterans, to have their benefits from the US..the US promised some benefits for all the guerillas who fought with them against the japanese invader here in the Philippines...

  • Wonderful tribute to those 16 million men and women who served during World War II and the thousands who are protecting us now.

  • imagine all the terrible things these guys witnessed..crazy

  • These guys make it hard for modern Soldiers to feel worthy, seeing Ike talk to boys from the 101 is awe inspiring. Seeing that these guys had the grit to challenge 3 nations in war they didnt know if they could win is amazing. Hooah.

  • My great uncle Bill really appreciates this tribute.

for he was on the indianappolis when it sank, and he servived. so i thank you for making my favorite ww2 vet a happy man.

it makes him and me glad that people from all around the world have not forgotten him. thank you.

  • It's comments like yours that make it all worth while. Tell your uncle Bill from me, "Thank you for your service and sacrifice for this country, that allows me my freedom today." I am a veterans advocate and you guys are the reason I post these. Jeff

  • I will most certainly tell him that you and many others still reminber him and his fellow sailors that have fallen while over seas.

He will appreciate it and i will show him this next time i see him.

You sir are a true patriot.

    thank you.

  • Awesome Video tribute, Best respect for those greats soldiers who came to fight for the liberty of my country and world wide!

    Dieu Bénisse les USA.

  • Every single soldier from the alied forces are heroes.

  • many thanks to all of them that fight to give us a free life...

    Giuliano, Roma, Italy

  • People who are arguing about what countries did what are PATHETIC, I bet you didn't watch the video.

  • Also shut the hell up on who did more than who, every country suffered massive loses fighting for there countries, INCLUDING the axis forces, have a little fucking respect instead of waving your dicks around saying whos better than you and who did more than who.

  • and just think, these are the men who today the government turn there backs on, these are the men Chavs kill for £5, these are the men we mock and laugh at in the shops.

these are the men who lost friends and died for you to have the freedom to laugh, and thats how todays generation treats them.

I hope todays generation suffers for everything they have ever done

  • Isn't it amazing how some people will turn anything into an argument?

Thanks for the heartfelt video, my dad lost his hearing in WW 2-he was a gunner on a Navy ship....so that we could have a free country to live in-and the freedom to say the stupidest things without fear of reprisal

  • Amen! My best to your great father.

  • i always cry when i see the veterans cry

  • Theres really no need for a pissing contest on which country did the most work. This video was created with many allied countries represented in it. All the allied countries did their part to win the war.

  • are u saying americans did all the work? if you are.. FUCK YOU

  • its all americans surprise surprise. they are basically just saying fuc the other countrys like britain, canada and ausralia. we did all the work

  • Please can you tell me what the music is that accompanies this video. It's a beautiful piece and so moving. Thanks

  • Sorry for the late response, been off the internet for a while. The song is from the soundtrack for the movie "Road to Perdition" with Tom Hanks. I felt it was fitting.

  • True heroes all.

This is why we shouldn't throw away our freedom.

Your parents wont give you that extra £20?

Feel lucky your parents and you are here because if it wasn't for these brave people none of us would be here. We came so close to loosing ww2 but these brave men gave there everything to defend their freedom. So remember always respect your country and your countrymen.

  • these guys are the bad asses of the country i have so much respect for these guys cant even begin to explain

  • My father was a WWII vet and this is what I have been trying to explain to so many people and why we need to respect each and every vet, but the vets of WWII did not speak of their war much, they just did their job and came home. I hope many people watch this because you hit the nail right on the head!

Thank you! I know my Dad would appreciate it.

  • I'm the great-grandaughter of a WW2 Navy Vetern. He died almost 2 months ago. He was 85. Never was sick nor had cancer. I miss him so. Thankyou for this video. God Bless, Erin

  • My Dad was in WW2 saw action, but did not like to talk of it much. I know it was rough.

  • salute to the heroes!!

    ellie, zagreb, croatia

  • There is nothing that we will be able to do or say which will ever enable us to repay the dept that we owe to the men and women who served in the Allied armies who fought and died so that we could live in the world we live in to. We must never forget those who live and those who died. We shall never be as selfless or as great as those men and women. We must never forget.

  • Well said. I agree.

  • My great grandpa was in ww2 he's dead now we had a military funeral... I never wanna hear that buegul play again.

  • Thanks for the compliment.

  • Beautiful-Thank you!

  • same i see if i can get there emails or address to talk to them . they did us a great surface and i wanna thank em

  • hello,

Does anyone know how to come in contact with WOII veterans. I have so much questions i would like to ask!! Thank you.

  • I do not know where you live but will try to help if I can. This may not be easy to do since most of these men in any country are between their mid 80's and low 90's. Most do not use a PC and may have a hard time talking to people they dont know. I would encourage you to find a WWII veteran where you live. In your country. A face to face talk in respect would probably be best for you. I hope this helps.

  • I live in holland and I'm 33 years old. I 've visited a lot of places around the globe to see all the "hot spots". During those visits i spoke to some veterans but it was always too short! Maybe you know a site where u can get in contact with them. I think it will be very difficult because of their ages and that they are not familiar with the internet. thanks a lot anyway!!

  • every time i see old men around, i automatically think of their sacrifice and what they went through so we could live the way we do today, god bless our veterans.

  • You have a great day too sir.

  • I in turn respect your opinion. But will agree with you to disagree. I have no doubt that some allied soldiers committed atrocities in the war as well.

  • But that was mostly on a person to person basis and not as a group or military initiative. To say that some of the soldiers in my video have done such things is far fetched and not likely. As most allied soldiers were good men who went by geneva laws and obeyed command to not take innocent life. However there were exceptions. Fighting a war is not an atrocity. Killing the innocent, torturing enemy soldiers, and shooting P.O.W.'s are atrocities.

  • Atrocities means terrible acts against humans. Basically the SS divisions, some gestapo and anyone carrying out or giving orders to break geneva convention laws against citizens or soldiers.

  • there were 2million plus SS men serving at the peak of the war.

  • I do respect those that fought for their country on each side. However this video was made to highlight the Allies efforts in WW2. The Germans were very disciplined though and were formiddable foes. A good many of them were and are honorable men who only fought for Germany. As for those that committed atrocities.....I will not honor them.

  • hey, if u like videos of WWII and interviews with veterans check out some of the videos I have.

  • good job moving vidio Any man who is willing to lay down his life for the freedom of others is more than just a hero

  • Uprising*

  • I sse no polish veterans :/ Civils including childrens & womens who fought with simple weapons like molotov's coctail versus tanks and machine guns and so on... Heroes live forever- Warsaw Upraising.

  • Sorry JakZloto. I could not please everyone but I tried. Many nations are included though. I love the story of the Warsaw Uprising's and have studied it thoroughly. I may do a seperate video for that when I get time.

  • the one thing i want to do before i die is to meet a WWI or WII veteran, but i doubt that will ever happen

  • same with me.....

  • Thank you BreeinOC for your comments. I was moved by them. Thanks for sharing.

  • My grandpa suffered from PTSD. He was traumatized and suffered greatly so he left the family. I met him once before he died. I understand. I feel sorry for him. My greatgrandpa served in WWI and I am happy to say I knew him before he died. Both men were wonderful. I miss them dearly.

  • We owe all who served in the allied forces through all wars more than just there thanks. What they gave up to free the world from dictators to invaders will never be forgotten. Well done

  • guiness your hipocret , you think the onlys countrys who fought against the nazists are USA and Britain ? don't be a idiot!!!

  • No of course not! But the US ARrmy liberated our country in September 1944. ALL of the allied nations did a well job!

  • ok so :)

  • really a good video. Thanks america thanks GBritain that you liberated my country(Luxemburg) and from the Nazis

  • THANKS ,all who fought against the nazists , the hero from all contrys!

  • Its time these men were told thank you. Before they all pass away. It may a little uncomfortable but in the end its worth it.

  • Thanks guys. Lets do remember to thank the veterans most of all. I met an ailing WW2 vet the other day. Such a nice man. Gracious and polite. I felt obligated to thank him for his service to the country. After I did, he started crying in his wheelchair and hugged me saying that that was the first time anyone had ever thanked him for it. After that I teared up also.

  • My mom volunteered in the VA hospital. The WWII vets always thanked her profusely. They were sweet. She thanked them for all they did. She thought it was odd that they were so thankful so someone pushing them in a wheelchair, but they were. They are thankful for the little things in life.

  • Russia did lose alot of people in WW2. Sadly though it was Stalin himself who did most of the killing. His quotas for death were on average about 5000 per day. And that was against his own people. The Russian war effort was only there when they had to to save their own bacon and take as much land as they could in the process.

  • Well...Believe what you want to believe. I'm American and Damn proud to know that my grandfather died in WW2 trying to keep Hitler from spreading tyrrany across the world. You can say what you want and say what you will you Commi prick, but America faught too.

  • LoL, americans still thinks that it was them who won WW2. The fact is: it was Soviet Army.

26 millions of russians died to save this world from Hitler. Of course you never heard about it. What a shame.

  • Amen!

  • Jeff,

Very, very moving. Have added it to my favorites and will pass around the link.

  • Hey Jeff. Fantastic video. I liked it so much I embedded into my MySpace blog. Hope you don't mind. My grandpa was part of the Leyte invasion with MacArthur in '44.

  • Sure. No problem. I'm glad you like it. Since you mentioned Leyte, I thought I would mention I have a ring that was confiscated from a Kamakazi Pilot after he was shot down over Leyte. He was pulled on board the USS Franks and interigated. Leyte was a rough battle, your Grandfather was a brave man.

  • Thank you all for the kind remarks.

  • Great Tribute

  • Very nice. Definitly the greatest generation. We can never forget what they sacrificed for us.

  • Wow! I got chills. Thanks for making this and telling me about it! I would love to put it on my website with credit to you if you'd like. I'm the guy that has the site ww2remembered com . Let me know if you'd like it added there. send me the original that is better quality than YouTube if you still have it and would like it added to my site with all credit given to you.

  • Hi Jeff,

nicely done, I really liked the way you screenplayed your pictures, the music makes it still and intense. thats one of my fav veterans tribute. I got some great patriotic songs for your other WWII videos projects. dont hesitate to ask me ;)

    Guillaume

  • Thank you both for the kind remarks. WW2 makes up a large part of my families background and permeates through the generations. My grandfather fought in WW2 along with his 8 other brothers. Half of them lost their lives in various parts of the war. I am going to post a video soon to represent their lives and efforts. I hope if nothing else this video will help others to see the bridge between the men in those black and white shots and the elderly gentlemen we have today.

  • Wow. A beautiful piece of work, Jeff. Thought the shots of the D-day troops fading into the pics of the veterans was brilliantly done....don't mind admitting it gave me a lump in my throat. Well done , sir.

  • Jeff .... this is beautiful. And you were right. Thank you for leading me to it. My father's birthday was yesterday. He died in 98. I am STILL looking for ways to understand what it was like for him. And there are only so many doorways IN. Most don't lead deep enough. But your video touched sincerely.

    Thank you.

    With good wishes ~

    Hillary
