very poetic indeed. beautifully played and very nicely interpreted. and yes she's Asian. but does it really matter? if she didn't have any talent and didn't practice her hiny off, she would never have gotten this far. BIG thumbs up.
This girl is just... way too amazing!!! Incredible!!! I can feel my heart beating hard inside my chest after listening to this... I don't play piano (I wish I did :( but I've never had the chance to learn and now I'm too busy to look for it... but still have my dream hehe) but I have a great musical sensibility... and this is just too... wow... *claps hands*
Opened the video and went to browse some other site. Completely forgot it was a live performance and thought I was listening to an MP3 until I heard the audience clapping at the end. Amazing performance! Not a single note out of place!
Wow Tiffany! How did you memorise all this .Bravo! I have been learning piano for about five years now and i am not even half way of your technique. Go Tiffany!
i've heard several other versions of this piece by other artists such as yundi li and valentina lis. although her form is less perfect than their's and still somewhat rough, the way she plays it is really powerful, especially the build up towards the crescendo.
@craymiranda You have no idea what you are talking about. Contrary to popular belief most Asians who take up piano do it on their accord. Like I did. My parents asked if I wanted to start lessons, and I agreed. They did not force me, they told me i could stop at anytime. But I enjoyed it and kept going. And I'm glad I did. I have taken lessons for about 5 years now and I plan on learning this piece very soon. So could you stop with your idiotic stereotypes?
Just to say ~ I heard on the BBC Proms.. that Lang Lang inspired 40million young chinese people to play.
Dont ever think its because of your race.. more of how you are brought up & surely 40million.. theres going to be many great asian pianists of this generation.
Im sure there are many great eastern European and Russian pianists out there who were inspired by Horowitz
This gave me chills. I have been playing this piece for 20+ years (on and off) and I am not even close to this level of perfection. To all the people making negative comments, you obviously don't play the piano or have an ounce of musical appreciation. This is just breathtaking. Bravo, Tiffany.
This was pretty good. Minus the minimal mistakes, I believe she will become a great pianist. I enjoyed the middle part of the Fantasie Impromptu (the slow part) and liked how she played it
It's weird that people think Asians are better than Americans.I think their just same it's just that Asian people push their child to practice much more
hey, nice playing! It could be better if the largo part in d flat major key could be played as largo instead of allegretto though... anyway, it was lovely... wish I could play like you. You know, I'm playing this piece for the National Piano Competition 2011. I'm only in the middle currently... ;)
I can only play the middle part :/ and I'm telling you; the Asians will always rule the piano. Nope not Americans! Asians! Cause they play better! Specially kids under 6! well except her
AFter hearing legions of talentless 9-12 year olds who claim to be child prodigies (and they actually win national competitions)...THIS is certainly refreshing. If Tiffany Poon sold a CD I would buy it. THIS is a child prodigy.
I wish I had one tenth of her talent. I have been trying to play this piece for one year, She is way ahead of the bulk of pianists who try to learn to play this piece the way chopin intended.
This kid is the one tenth of one percent of pianistswho have that rare gift from God.
The competition for piano is getting to be a bit excessive, and I can't understand what's going to happen when so many people are learning the exact same music. Something's gotta happen eventually. You can't have 100,000 pianists performing all of the same classical pieces, no?
@itsanthonyhere Not in just one competition. No. Anyway the interesting thing here is how they interpret the piece. There can be many variations you know... It's the same for vocal songs as well.
Exquisite performance as you have extracted the true pathos of Chopin himself in this rendition. Thank you very much I will enjoy listening to this on my PS3 very often.
SilentViolins, it's condescending to say she "shows promise" when she already plays with this kind of artistry. The fiery coda has a churning passion that many big-name performers on youtube fail to match. There is an ardent glow to her playing that makes the instrument "burn" as Bolet used to say. If you had listened to this blindfolded would you have guessed it was an 11-year-old girl playing? No way! Talent, like beauty, is where you find it, not where you think it should be.
@MISHA1119 I disagree. There's nothing condenscending about that statement at all. "Shows promise" implies that she has talent. You can't say she's at the level of Li YunDi, or the greats like Rubenstein, Richter, Argerich, etc. I certainly agree that she plays magnificently for an 11 year old, but sometimes overpraising is a bad thing. Makes people arrogant.
An 11 year old still lacks the life experience to fully comprehend and interpret such complex art by themselves.
@YSFmemories I catch your drift in this but why aren't children able to interpret such complex art by themselves?
Everyone experiences art in different ways, even if Chopin for example thought this was a sad tune she may experience it in a completely different way.
I'm not saying that kids aren't able to interpret it by themselves, I'm saying that they aren't able to fully interpret it. What this means, is that while these talented kids may have a better interpretation than I ever will in my lifetime, the fact is, as they grow and mature, their interpretations also grow and mature. It is against themselves that they cannot comprehend fully, and not compared to other people.
@brandonscherrer - Now that's an interesting way of putting it. She has all the technique, and it's wonderfully played. but when you're 10, your interpretations are your teacher's. but she brings out all ideas perfectly. can't wait until she's older to hear her own musical interpretations.
i dont really like the beginning, the c# notes are not hard enough for me and the part with the c# g# c# e in the left hand starts to fast, i like yundi li more, but for sure she is simply amazing and will become a world pianist for sure ;) its only my taste^^

@klingsor93 - oops. i hit the wrong thumb, but she does have very musical interpretation in the mid section. much better than most adults. i did hear a few finger errors, but so slight that it's barely unnoticeable if you aren't that familiar with the piece. but she still plays beautifully for 11.
