Ok, I hate to tell you guys this but 300 did not accurately depict the battle of thermopylae or the spartans, if you want to know what I mean by that is they wore armor and their swords were short, about the size of your forearm, including the hilt, but they had the sword and spear more or less as their way of being polite, they could kill you with their shield, helmet, or bare hands, the "300" Spartans were less badass than the real McCoy.

And the only two greek places that didn't surrender were Athena and Sparta, Sparta because they were a war civilization, they would never surrender, Athena because they didn't want their people to die, or their art. Athena didn't fight much though, the Persians fought the spartans a bit more.

In the end they were defeated by the romans.

So logically speaking the Romans should have been able to defeat the Persians, but they weren't.

It's all just a matter of time, place and a lot of luck.
