The whole hostage crisis kind of painted that terrorist picture for Americans, that, and chanting "death to America" on Friday prayers and have a giant famous mural of an American flag where the stripes turn into bombs and the words "down with America" on it.

Anyway, I think a lot of American's have a totally different image of Iranians now... and after looking deeper into the history of the two countries, we can kind of understand where the, "death to America" stuff comes from.

Americans outlook on that region of the world tends to be very reactionary. if you asked what they knew about Mossadegh, might say, "I think I downloaded one of his mp3s once".
