  • how do you give them water?

  • @monalfre they don't need water. Their food is moist and provides them the moisture they need.

  • Great for baby preying mantis to :)

  • can i use fruits, rather than fruitfly food?

  • @hasanarkan yes I've heard people have success with bananas and other things, but beware, fruits will spoil very fast.

  • @SuccessMilker nope, never have fruit flies escaped.

  • what is the name of you fruitfly food? i dont want to call ask for it at my local pet store and them not know what im talking about...and i dont know if they have a pet smart where your from ..but thats the only pet store in my city now and the next closest is an hour away..but do you think pet smart would have this fruitfly food...because i have a long tailed lizard and i think she is pregnant and i got told from a friend all they can eat as babys are fruitflys..thanks alot man :)

  • @fluffycy i ordered mine online, look up fruit fly media.

  • I want to use the same cup as you but how do you get air in, if the holes clogged ?

  • @Meow828282 I haven't had issues with air, there seems to be plenty in there, or plenty that can get into through the towel I used to plug the hole. I open the container almost daily also, so that refreshes the air in there.

  • Thank you, is this the same fruit flies that gathers around bananas.. sometimes when the bananas go bad? Thanks.

  • hi there do you know if they are avaliable in canada and can you use fruitflys that you find around your house

  • @powerkidspiro best to use the 'flightless' variety - much less chance of there being an infestation in your home. millions of small flying bugs would suck! you probably could, but I would get some flightless. I would assume you can get them in canada, I don't see why not. ask around at your local pet shops, even if they don't have them in stock, they may be able to order you some.

  • @earthling1984 ok thanks can you give me any tipes ao caring for bearded dragons i want to buy some but dont knoe what lighing structure i need

  • hey if they dont want their crickets small badly i give a council put coconut substrate....hope will help them...

  • cool does it cost alot to breed them?

  • @farmerz245 nope not at all

  • what would you do if they got out of the containor

  • @BENEDETTOOOOOOOOOOOO run for my life... lol... I don't know, that would suck.

  • is that cockatiels i can hear in the background?

  • @markhorneyuk yup :)

  • @earthling1984 , knew it, I use to have an aviary, the little buggers never use to shut up...LOL

  • i fucking hate fruit flies ! why breed them

  • @ilikeRunescapeVideos , plainly for the reason as this guy is showing.

  • @ilikeRunescapeVideos to fed my pets... and not have to waste money on them...

  • Are these the flightless variety or the regular winged, "wild type" Variety?

  • @Mantisman630 flightless

  • can u feed the maggots to lizards instead of the adult fruit fly

  • Finally a informative video took 3 hours to find someone that finally talked through it.

  • were do yuh get the fruit fly media?

  • Cool Video. Thanks for sharing. I was getting tired of paying abut $6 for those little containters at Petco. BTW, fruit flies work great to feed have small insects (praying mantis and such).

  • Hey, I hear that the food stuff is just fine grain flour...

  • but will the parents of the larve die or what because i see no fruitfly with the larve?

  • @tomvm01 they can, but usually not, you just keep feeding them off.

  • @earthling1984 couldn't i breed them and feed them slices of apples or bananas?

  • ...very informative...

  • where can u buy them??

  • @xiaomist most pet shops have them.

  • @earthling1984 singpore got a not do u know?

  • i swear i can hear a bird in the background

  • @chickgirlmegs12

    I can too! Rofl.

  • Great video! What's in the medium? Does it rot or mold? Could you use it to breed houseflies as well?

  • can these maggots crawl in your skin?

  • @earthling1984 I got a more simple instruction and its only 5th grade and I'm now 8th grade(age:13).

  • wats the nutritional value difference between these guys and crickets

  • can you use them for food for a baby toad?

  • @23LEGOman yes

  • @earthling1984 wow!its like u buy it for once n u dont ever need to buy anymore of em!

  • Thanks, just ordered a flightless fruit fly kit... Couldn't find anything small enough to feed my froglets and one store offered to order me a kit. I'll probably continue to breed them after the medium in that is used up, your method sounds cheaper.

  • i need to get some for my praying mantis's

  • alright sweet.. dont think ma be buying or breeding these anytime soon.. i got cricket pin heads and i bread panther chameleons ambilobe. and i got 31 eggs right now and my other female is fixing to lay some more so im prob gonna have around 60 baby panther chameleons. so ima need this.. but thanks.. i subscribed.. keep the vids coming

  • hey do these fly or not.. iv seen them flightless

  • @itunes530 These don't... but you are correct, some do. if you want flightless, makesure the ones you buy are 'flightless' :)

  • can i use this for really really really really small sallies

  • @smamouthbassrigs 'Sallies'"? Not sure what that is... but you can use fruit flies for any insect eating animals that is of small small enough size.

  • I have anoles, do you think I could attract fruit flies from outside (the winged ones) and make them lay the maggots. My pet store doesnt sell flightless fruitflies so I was wondering if the maggots can be eaten. They look pretty nasty though XD

  • @MultiSoccerMan You probably could technically do this, but I would suggest ordering some flightless fruit flies online if you can't find them locally and breeding them yourself indoors. If you do get the maggots, like if they laid their eggs/maggots in a peice of fruit, or something, you could then take that, and let the maggots hatch into flies(in like a tupperware), then feed them. I would feed the flies, not the maggots, but either would be ok... mealworms/superworms are maggots.

  • how long do hey take to die? I want to start breeding xD

  • $10 a bag! You're getting jipped. I have a recipe you can use (I've been using it for a couple months and have way to many fruit flies haha), that costs about the same, but gets you way more. It's 1 part white sugar, 2 parts powder milk, 4 parts instant mashed potato, mix in equal parts water. I add just about 5 granules of yeast to each 32 oz culture. The 32 oz cup is filled 1/4-1/3 of the way with culture. I use cardboard as their climbing surface. It'll save you even more money!

  • Don't know if it could get me more... my cup is now swarming... heh :) Yes, I know you can make home made recipes, I choose 'store bought' because the cost is almost equal, and home made ones are a lot more likely to mold.

  • this may sound dumb but do these have wings? cuz i am thinking about doing your rankings dragon idea for my leo gecko.. but if it has wings ill die if they fly around in my room.

  • Fruit flies do have wings, but a few of the species, although they have wings, are flightless and cannot fly. I have those type that cannot fly. The flightless type are the ones that are sold as pet/reptile food. Just make sure you see 'flightless' on the container when you purchase.

  • I always seen fruit flies at petco I was gonna get some but I was afraid that some would get lost and I would have them flying around and t lookslike they are easy to breed...lol

  • ur right crickets smell like crap

  • Really helpful info 5* I used to keep them when I had salamanders.

  • HAHA, nice vid i have a pet giant african land snail and these fruit fly allways eat the veg in the tank i get hundreds of these things. but i dont have a lizard im getting two beardies in feb but could i use wiled cought flys?

  • I douln't feed wild caught flies. These types of flies are probably too small for beardies. Even young beardies. I feed them to my Rankins dragons, but Rankins are much smaller than bearded dragons. As for wild caught, NO don't use those. Those fly as well, whereas the store bought fruitflies are flightless. It would be best to just buy a culter from the store, and go from there. If you could catch and start breeding wild ones, then only feed the offspring(not ones you caught) that'd be k

  • wouldn't*

  • lol mis-types bug me... culture*

  • @earthling1984 haha lol

  • @earthling1984 ok thanks, the dragons are realy small, but i guess ones from the shop is safer. oh and one question how long would a 30 gallon long tank last two hatchling beardies?

  • Probably up to a year if they are truely babies when you get them. I have had my dragons a few months, the male is getting large, but the female is still small - so it also depends how fast they grow. a 40 or 55 gallon would be good for 2 dragons for their whole life, you may want to just start with that, but if you have a 30gallon sitting around at home, it will last a good while.

  • @earthling1984 thanks i do have the 30g at home. so i will stick with that and get my parents to to a 40 - 50 breeder in a year or so for christmas lol.

  • :) Also, if you need to know where from, message me... but you should buy your insects online(once you need crickets). Once the dragons grow, they will easily eat 24 crickets a peice a day. Plus lettice and other foods they need. Other insects, etc. Crickets in the store cost like $20 for 150 crickets - whereas, online, you can get 1000 crickets for $20(And this price includes shipping - $20 total for 1000 crickets)... Keep them in a tub, and they can last for a good month with food & water

  • ok thanks im from england so i dont use dollars but live food is cheap over here, thanks for the help mate :)
