I see a lot of people whining about this guy not playing metal and I have to say that this review more than any other on Youtube has convinced me to buy a Metal Muff. As he points out, just because it says "Metal" on the case doesn't mean that it has to be used for Metal. It's not like there's a shortage of people demoing the Metal Muff by playing Metal, so even though he isn't playing the sort of music I play - Post-Rock/Shoegaze - it's refreshing to see what else it's capable of.

I am no expert, but I suspect that a decent tube amp and a well tuned instrument would sound better than this. If you need a distortion unit, get the full sized Metal Muff with the tone controls.

Don't get this until you have upgraded your amp. It will sound terrible. I suggest you either go for a B-52 AT-112 or a Peavey Valveking. Both are affordable, decent metal amps. Then buy this ^

The Metal Muff (in all of it's incarnations) is truly a disgrace to EHX. It's the most generic pedal they've ever made. You don't need a pedal with the word "metal" in it's name to get a good metal sound.

I have a digi death metal and it sounds like crap on both my lin6 and my crate stack...but it sounded great on the behringer amp at the store. I use a fulltone usa overdrive with boost and a ds-1 together for metal...It sounds awesome
