  • I'm disgusted to see Chevron using Youtube to blast these poor people! The bastards of Chevron should have to spend a year drinking that water down thier with thier families! I am sorry that a so called "American" company did this to these people! Not all Americans are like these heartless soul sucking bastards!

  • gringos get out of manta the time is over, go away nobody wants you in the ecuadorian territory, gringos go the hell

  • Do some research and you'll find that Texaco (Purchased by Chevron in 2001) did a complete and thorough environmental remediation and were released of all responsibility by the Ecuadorian government. Petroecuador is to blame for the pollution. The Ecuadorian government and court system are corrupt and an absolute joke. Their intention is to extort Chevron. Instead of giving in to their bullying, Chevron is standing up for itself and should be commended.

  • Fact: Chevron has admitted in the Lago Trial that it dumped more than 18 Billion gallons of toxic waste (known as "produced water") into this part of Ecuador's Amazon from 1964 to 1992 -- about 4 million gallons on a daily basis, or a total of 30 times more pure crude than was spilled in the Exxon Valdez disaster.

  • Fact: Of the 35 inspected sites whose results have been reported to the court, 100% demonstrate significant amounts of life-threatening toxins, some thousands of times above the maximum amounts permitted by Ecuadorian and U.S. law.

  • Fact: Chevron also violated it's operating agreement with Ecuador's government, which required it to "employ modern and efficient machinery" and to "avoid contamination of water, airs and lands."

  • Fact: Nobody can be sure exactly how many people have died from cancer and other oil related diseases where Chevron operated, but it is likely that the number of victims reaches into at least the hundreds. You will never get this info from Chevron, as the company has not conducted even a single health evaluation in the area.

  • I think the person that needs to do more research is yourself robtpeterson.

  • Fact: Just because you put the word "Fact" before you say something, doesn't mean its true. Before you pass judgment on TEXACO, take a look at their side of the story.

  • shut up you capitalistic bitch

  • yes shup ut....

  • ECUADOR IS NOT FOR SALE ANYMORE.

    Rafael Correa

  • I think that Rafael Correa is the best president in Ecuadorian History, I hope that in the next referendum will win the yes because my country needs a great change and we have the opportunity now good luck Rafael companerito

  • In fact, I think Correa is really Fidel's heir apparent. Chavez is passionate and intelligent in his own way, but Correa will be able to gather more respect from the international community. He has the credentials, and although he doesn't hesitate to make his views public, he never plays to an audience that would subject him to ridicule. Who can resist him? He is a bank vault of charisma. He has all the qualities of a great leader. Resolute, qualified, passionate. I confess I am wild about him

  • Correa is outspoken, but I would not call him a loudmouth. Like Marti, he has spent time in the USA and understands how Corporate America works, i.e. what Perkins talks about in Confessions of an Economic Hitman (book). Correa is an intelligent, educated man. He loves his country. And he is savy to the game. I understand his desire to call journalists and politicians (Uribe) out on their "bullsh_t". He is authentic and cannot abide their hipocrisy. He is someone to admire...

  • Correa, could be a loud mouth, but hey, you have too when you have corrupted politicians from both sides "Ecuador and USA" trying to break up the left-wing parties with lies, false accusations. I wouldn't be surprise if Chevron is one of the company providing money to rivary political parties to overthrow Correa. I mean, you have CIA that has been infiltrating Latin AMerica for quite some time now.

  • I believe Correa is trying his absolute best on trying to help Ecuador go forward. Keep in mind that for the last 30+years the corrupted politicians has raped, destroyed and robbed the Ecuadorians, especially those in the country side. It's not easy being a president when you have Right-wing parties making life difficult for all Ecuadorians. Rather than working together, they listen what other countries and the bias news media says.

  • Greg Palast asks if the oil company can get a fair trial in Ecuador. Why wasn't he there in Miami asking if the 5 Cuban Heros could get a fair trial in Miami? Where was his concern with fairness then? To understand americans you have to follow the money trail.

  • Great job Mr. President! 70% of the Ecuadorian people support you!!

  • Our president is a disrespectful. To prove that, I'm gonna tell you about two situations:

1.- The president wanted to imprison to a lawyer cause this lawyer wanted to open an investigation about the thousands dollars were not declared in the presidential campaign in 2006. And we suppose that that money came from FARC.

2.- The President divided the principal province of our country [ Guayas ], because he promised to increase the burocracy to his little group, Alianza País.

    Is that ok?

  • I must remind that the Guayas division was a phisical and politic division. So, our maps changed. And that was too painful for the people from my province.

I'm from Guayaquil, and that was the worst this President did the last year.

And about the 2006 money. He is trying always to gag the people. He follows the medias enterprises if the chanels or newspapers, try to investigate that kind of things.

  • GabyPreciosaSexy, it is evident that you think you know a lot but in fact you don't know much. I suggest you to read more and use non-biased media before submitting ignorant opinions. And if you don't understand what I just said (since your english is very poor) I could explain this to you in spanish.

  • I'm not an english native speaker(as you see). But I know you understood and I suppose you don't live the poorness in our country.

Can you tell me the real facts of advance in our country (use statistics percentages please) ?

Don't reply anything to me little communist, until you answer that.

    Good luck!

    Someone from Guayaquil.

No solo intenciones, eh?

    Buena suerte!

  • But happens that our salaries are like around, 200 USD.

Those 200 USD [monthly] that the people earn must be invest in the bills (water, electric light, food, telephone) We are talking about 480 USD. [ monthly ].

Is imposible for us, to survive in a country where the minimun salary is just the half of the money we need to survive.

He can smile, cause he wins more than 2.000 dollars only smaling and talking like a wizkid!

What happens with poverty in our country?

    That's a secret.

  • Gabyosasexy what you did not mention is that one of the first things president Correa did was to decree one of the largest minimum-wage increases of the last few years, while lowering his salary and those bureaucrats that earned over 2,500/month.

  • Rafael Correa seems like a man of great humility. I'd be proud to have him as my president.

Latin America will shake of the shackles of imperialism and neo-liberalism!

  • are the rightful owners of these resources. Correa tries to be diplomatic, but it cannot have been easy. Palast tells him that Bush and Condoleeza Rice were not in favour of Correas appointment as finance minister....guess what Palast? Who gives a flying you know what about what those two losers think? Their days are numbered. I hope all of latin american stands together against the terrible menace of US aggression. Morales, Correa, Chavez, and of course Fidel. Venceremos! Viva Correa!

  • What a major league weasel Greg Palast shows himself to be in this interview. He asks Correa how Ecuador will "collect" if it wins the lawsuit, never acknowledging the legitimacy of the claim in itself. Typically american. No ownership of blame for issues ever from the USA. Americans are never sorry or admit fault in any way. Palast has the bad manners to say Correa "threw the US oil companies out" when all Ecuador is trying to do is ensure the wealth is shared by the people of Ecuador who ..

  • american empire your end is coming soon

  • hey obrail if correa its a dictator then u are the pope

  • I would like to translate the entire interview, so everybody can understand and feel proud of our president. Many multinationals corporations not only from the United States, but also from many other powerful countries have made bad things in the poor countries. for example, Mc Donalds exploits its workers in Ecuador because they pay very low salaries (200/month), the oil companies are destroying the Amazon jungle, among other things.

  • Shut up you do not know anything about my country!

  • and you are a clon from bush

you dont even know whats going on in your country

  • Thanks Greg.

as usual you are the Man!

Correa is a great President! (Lets hope he checks his aircrafts before flying.)

  • Equador has more if left alone from worldbank, than the USA.

Just because its 3rd world, does not mean it does not have real wealth.

God Bless him and his plain, hope its not from the USA

  • Excellent work Mr. Palast but where can I find the whole interview?! Does anybody know?

Correa is such a great President!

There are so many similarities between Obama and Correa.
