I just went there today, Didn't get any footage because I could not find a way to get in there. All I have is a little corolla plus there were 3 cop cars parked on Yuma (just my luck). Where is the Scorpion located? closer to Yuma or Airport road?
@commando602 You could walk to it if I remember right it's just North if your walking or driving on Yuma right after the homes end. Once your in the brush you can probably see better, but it's on the more wide section of strip, (you'll see some skinny trails). I'll try and get you some google gps cords and PM them to you if you'd like. The old footings from the buildings are off airport rd. about 100 yards North of Yuma. Be careful of the Police :)
@ArizonaAdventures - Thanks, I see on google earth that the closest point to access by foot is the South West corner by the home. That's my neighborhood by the way. I live in the Windmill neighborhood. I'm just gonna walk out into the field in the next few day's. Don't think the cops would give me a hard time but you never know these day's. They might body slam me, kick me in the ribs a few times, pepper spray me then ask questions.
@commando602 yeah the SW corner exactly, sounds like you should find it no prob. I love that windmill by the way! To bad more communities don't add great features like that it seems, very cool! In fact I think I looked for a geocache there once but it was gone. oh yeah lol the cops...yeah they might think it was black friday at walmart all over again hahaha
@danthman114 You probably have heard of the Glasgow Airforce base in Montana? They converted that into some kind of housing complex. Not sure how well that went.
@thanks arizonaAdventures i too look around all the time for abandoned places in arizona especially close to home. there is a article in westvalley views archive 7/3/09 (Buckeye man recaptures 'the one that got away' Sons buy car father sold 20-plus years ago) article mentions froggy bottom briefly i went there as a kid few times and as high schooler with friends and tried our cars out haha its changed alot though sadly but lot of good memorys there nice video good talking to you thank, eric
@eeriojas I'm so glad you left that comment, because your the first one to tell me about froggy bottom :) I bet you have some great stories of trotter park too, yeah :)
was a cool spot but people started dumping trash there but when is in better shape well after being closed they used to call this spot Froggy Bottom in the 80's everyone would go drag race there lots of pics floating around of this place in better shape just gotta ask the right people.
@eeriojas I can picture it now, it must have been an awesome place drag race. I have an old car I've been slowing bringing back to the street and when I was here just kept thinking how fun this would be. Thanks for the info and I'm gonna try and find some of those froggy bottom pics that exist. Oh and that trash is pretty bad your right. seems like on the east side. I saw a few homes with large lights and cams pointing into the field so it must be an active area. thanks!
I have a urban exploration page on facebook you guys can check it out if you want it called Urban explorers of slo county like our page if you like it.
i wish there was places like this hear in california
@kolby4078 I know what you mean, I love looking at google maps to see what's around me here in the desert. and thanks for posting that website as that's where I think I got a lot of my info for this video.
@jmmurdy it sure does. It's strange too because this huge piece of land sits without much attention being paid to it. Most people who live just min.'s away have no idea it's even here. I was blown away when I found the paint still half way legible.
Check my channel out for new Urban Exploring videos to come. Currently I have two episodes of Ipswich Court Building and Gallows. It's a big complex of buildings, really weird stuff inside. Be sure to subscribe for more!
I love exploring abandoned things :) its so interesting to try and find out why it was closed or find cool things like bullets and old weapons :) - i once found an old armoury in an abandoned WW2 army base :) the guns were still there but locked up!
@ArizonaAdventures i may have a few pictures left somewhere but there hard copies only i could try to scan them onto the computer and it wasn't in Arizona it was in southern Germany i think it was a abandoned U.S army camp that was disbanded after the war. Im only guessing because there were M1A1 thompsons and M1 Grands in the armoury
i know why its abandonned since the cold war the U.S. had to result in numerous nuclear tests usually out in deserted areas and so lots of people had to leave homes bases and jobs in order to make more nuclear bombs
DO U KNOW WHY ITS ABANDONNED BECAUSE IF U READ THE SIGN IT SAYS YUMA ROAD ALSO KNOWN AS THE PLACE WERE THE US MADE MANY NUCLEAR TESTS AND PEOPLE WERE FORCED TO LEAVE HOMES AND BASES DURING THE COLD WAR
DO U KNOW WHY ITS ABANDONNED BECAUSE IF U READ THE SIGN IT SAYS YUMA ROAD ALSO KNOWN AS THE PLACE WERE THE US MADE MANY NUCLEAR TESTS AND PEOPLE WERE FORCED TO LEAVE HOMES AND BASES DURING THE COLD WAR!!!!!!
These old landing strips make great party spots, with a built in drag strip.
You should check out Pattons old training grounds over by Blyth, California, on the Arizona border. Iron Mountian Training Grounds. You can barely see them on Google Earth. There is a lot of old equipment buried out there. Of course you can't dig it up. They find a skull every so often, of troops that got lost and died of the heat.
Definitley had images of how fun it would be to drag race here! I'll have to look into the Iron Mountain Training Grounds when I'm over that way. Sounds really interesting, thanks!
@ArizonaAdventures If I'm not mistaken there is an old airport at Desert Center that might have been one of these bases, it is called Chuckwalla Raceway now.
@trotp3 Very cool. I wouldn't be surprised if there was. I really like that area around desert center. It's just far enough away from me though to where I can't make it out there as much as I would like to. I'll look into the raceway though, that sounds interesting.
@Engineer245 Yea, you are correct. I think there are actually six, but I can't remember off hand. At 6:35 in the video you will see a Google earth image of this field. There are many strange shapes around this area if you have some time to spend on Google earth. Thanks for the comment :)
What I can't figure out is why it was given an additional longer runway that was built into the primary runway in 1966-71 for jet aircraft for a total length 6,200' then shut down? Keep it around for generations & for the memory of 312th SCORPIAN TFTS. It should still be suitable for small fixed winged and rotary aircraft use.
@ArizonaAdventures Number varies but on average 10. For what ever reason youtube won't allow posting video links in comments otherwise it would have been a lot easier. It is of the same place.
@aznative78 The airfield has no more than 100yds of crappy tarmac left. It has all worn down to sand and gravel. Look up Aux 6 @ 60 that'll give you a good idea of the whole field. Starts off heading Southwest on the main runway.
I think they should reinstate this field and keep it alive as an active airfield and memorial much like they did with Stellar Airpark in Chandler. I've been to this airfield several times over the years when growing up and have often wondered what it was like back then what the writing and the red scorpion was about.
been to the airfield off queen creek road and price road? between price road and 10 freeway? The reservation got it, I got permission to go and look around still a few planes left, most have been town out or flown, the copters are now all gone

there are many like this, no longer needed after WWII therefore no longer maintained
though some are in better shape than this and make good places for rc planes/cars
and also if you want to get your car up to top speed
heres a huge database of many of them: airfields-freeman(.com
