    Dude

  • So what did people in the marine core eat before the MRE's??? :P

  • @brawlman18 Dude....C rations or C-RATS, canned meats and other icky things that were sometimes worse then the hunger...LOL

  • @SthealthRaider Dude...stores have a lot of good stuff, we can use to make our OWN!!!

    Seeya bro

    Dude

  • Good video, but if there is a Korean store nearby I recommend getting their instant coffee, you get 100 sticks for less than 20 bucks. It doesn't taste horrible, which in my opinion rules out all of the American instant coffees, except Starbucks Via (expensive). 2 notes on them, most of them come with cream & sugar inside the pack, & each stick is only supposed to be half a cup of coffee.

  • @BillyJoe1305 Dude....that sounds like I need a trip to the asian market to look for that.

thanks for the heads up, I need to a bit more research.

    Seeya

    Dude

  • when i was in the corps,we only had CRATS,they taste pretty good, came with cigarets and a coll p38 can opener.i think they are well cooler than the mre but hey,im old (:

  • @scprepper55 Dude, they were juuuust about gone when I went in Uncle Sams Misguided Childrens, in 1986. I tried a few back when they were still kinda around and some werent bad, but the portion size was a sick fricking joke. had a former service person with a few years on me tell me the that the "green eggs and ham" were the absolute best, and would kill for them to bring it back. personally,I reeeeeally liked the john wayne crackers and pineapple jelly.

Seeya bro, thanks for your service

    Dude

  • this guy would have the best conversation with :)

  • @TowStunta Dude...I got that, just spreading a bit of good info..

chickens usually will follow without a leash if you got food...LOL

    Seeya

    Dude

  • @TowStunta Dude Negative to the live chicken...BUTTtttttt, powered eggs are in all the surplus stores and also online as packaged goods, that was my intent.

also chickens make a hell of a racket clucking and carrying on...try DUCKS, barely a quack, the eggs are even tougher shelled to boot!!!

    good question though...

    Seeya

    Dude

  • 2. it looks like you have about $10 worth of supplies in there, mre are about $4-7 each depending on where you get them and how many you purchase.

  • @rondetten WRONG... shipping and sheer need right now is pushing up their per unit price.

  • like the video, please tell me thats not your normal voice, I did notice however a couple of issues, 1. some of the stuff you have in there has a shorter shelf life than the mre does.

  • @rondetten ah..the slight compliment and neutral swipe.

    nice touch..

  • Hello your videos are great:) greatings from hungary!!:)

  • @Davieeee87 DUDE, thanks so much, my Grandmother was Hungarian. and it makes me proud to be at least PART Magyar, you can see that, by just how much paprika winds up on my food. : )

must be in our genes to turn our food red with spice....LOL

    Seeya bro

    Dude

  • sorry about spelling a car wreck in 1981 kinda distroyed most of the right side of my brain so doing a lot better that the doctors thought i would they were fixing my face for my funeral

  • @skunkape49 Dude...no problem, just scan your responses, and I'm a dyslexic... try one of MY tricks.

read it again with one eye closed, sometimes the hemispheres dont always talk well to each other and you cancel that out by using just one eye.

no problem bro thanks in any case for your views and comments.

    Seeya

    Dude

  • could be worse they could have mad you eat sea rasions and yes on the obstial cores and yes the caned ham did realy taste like creamed corn after that the cores was the easy part ps a zippo lighter works good for me it can use karo or lamp oil or rubbing alcahol even perfume or after shave your wifes nail polish remover and you can cut down a pack of flints and store them inside

  • @skunkape49 ah...ok, I needed to use google a few times to translate your text, but good ideas on the other zippo fuels.

but acetone evaporates VERY quickly, has an explosion hazard, and removes all painted surfaces.. use carefully.

    Seeya

    Dude

  • ummm good time's love the vid man

  • @MyUrbanfOX Dude, thanks for the kind words and I especially want to thank you for your views,

    Seeya Bro

    Dude

  • i like this video but i think your MRE is alot more heavy!

    am i right or wrong?

  • @DrGreenfun Dude, it's actually closer in thinking to something called a "FIRST STRIKE RATION PACK" so it's really more like two or THREE meals...but then again, nope, they are fairly close in weight, the reason is mostly the PACKAGING, the mil spec stuff is pretty hard core and soldier proofed...but then again their stuff IS tougher. thanks for the views, and mine isnt written in stone, it's there for concept and possible ability to construct similar.

    Seeya

    Dude

  • This video is hilarious, Subbed!!!

  • @caboosemacs DUDE!!!!....welcome aboard and thanks.

    glad you enjoy my works..

    seeya

the title is "Duke Nukem Vs Dude's Not Him"

    /watch?v=d-zByePmCus

    seeya

    Dude

  • Wouldn't a Zippo type lighter be better than a Bic?

  • @AirlinePilotStuart WEEeeeeeell...if you had a ready source of naptha or lighter fluid, and flints?

sure..but Dude I smoked for a long time and had both....BUTANE/PROPANE/LNG wont evaporate go stale or lay a blister on your leg the size of a fifty cent peice like mine did when I overfilled it and it chemical cooked my thigh... messed up thing is I have no scar..crazy huh?

but seriously..butane lighters are better survival tools, especially if you get the PIEZOELECTRIC spark units.

    seeya

    Dude

  • Have you ever thought of doing voiceovers for commercials, or for discovery channel shows? I really dig your narration style ★★★★★

  • @saltyshellback Dude....I aint no where near professional enough, but I have enough friends here on youtube....meh, I dont care..LOL

  • @80spodcastchannel You rock anyway. I'll be contacting you in the near future for a jerky order...PEACE!

  • dude id tottaly eat yours i had regular mre's and to make it taste better some garlic powder and hotsauce

  • @zingzangzap ZZZ DUDE....yeah, a spicew pack can help those puppies completely, they are only so so at best, and made for the masses....you need a bit of tabasco to make an mre taste somewhat ok...for mine, aw yeah spices will definately help as well.

    Seeya bro

    Dude

  • @wobblerbobbler do you honestly think a comment like that will see the light of day?

seeya pal, and dont come back if your going to post obnoxious and stupid stuff

    AS YOU WERE....CARRY....ON!

    OOh Rah

    Seeya bro

    Dude

  • @80spodcastchannel greetings aside, My personal MREs since i can be a minimalist for a very long time. Jerky often home made out of brisket. Craizens (dehydrated cranberries), rice, dried peas, sliced and dried jalapenos (eating spicy foods prevents internal parasites) garlic (prevents external like ticks). Im working on a source of Vitamin C and having a little bit of trouble. But the jerky, rice, garlic, jalepenos have the makings of a camp stew. I use large juice cans, soup cans for my CONT

  • @kaldicuct DUDE!!!...you are in luck...vitamin C is just CITRIC ACID...or, ANY pine tree, get a handfull of pine needles, make TEA with it and you'd be shocked at the vitamin c content. look it up, no bs.

looks like you got a really good mindset for the rest..nice work

    seeya bro

    Dude

  • @80spodcastchannel PT2 cookset, the largest having holes put into it with a church key can opener at the bottom for fire ventalation, smaller ones for pots or pans wich you could carry on your own. I even took a wire clothshanger and made a small grill. good stuff. Hacksaw blade makes a decent knife and canopener. I also carry some veggy oil for lamps and for cooking, it also protects my carbon knives. OOh Rah. catch you later.

  • @kaldicuct Good double use of stuff, nice thinking...hey post a video and let me know, that would be cool to see how you did your modifications.

    Seeya

    Dude

  • @80spodcastchannel The vitamin C from pineneedles. think one could dry them out and preserve them. sorta like tea leaves? i have one in the back yard so ill prolly make like 7 days worth for each camp trip.

  • @kaldicuct Dude...I dont know if that works, I always heard LIVE needles from a tree and brewed like tea give ALOT of vitamin C to help you avoid scurvy. as for drying it out?

that would be a I DONT know for sure.....sorry

  • @80spodcastchannel no worries, ill give it a test run and let you know if i can taste it, you can always taste citric acid. see how it works out, only one way to find out right?

  • @kaldicuct Dude...from what I heard it doesnt taste too bad...but then again rose hips are pretty bitter and I like them too....LOL

  • HAHA YOUR SO FUNNY!! +1 SUB if you would, sub me back :)

  • @QualityAirsoft Dude...sorry but I never sub f or sub, but I thank you for your subscription, I also appreciate your views and kind words.

    Dude

  • @80spodcastchannel i know yu werent LOL those vids are old too i dont liek airsoft anymore :) just saying

  • damn yoru a funny fucker i laughed my ass off and your very right i woudl reather spen 4 bucks to make a homemade mre then 6 to 8 to buy something thats going to make me poop like a goose

  • @vonhellish Dude...or the OTHER side of the coin for a MIL SPEC MRE which locked you up better then drinking a gallon of locktite and following it was a shooter of crazy glue. MRES are known to keep you from pooping.

Seeya, also thanks for the sub

    Dude

  • what hapns when u dip in a lake or river and there is a hole in your air tite bag what hapens and im a 10 year old

  • @themabdaguy Dude...I usually put a ziplock bag inside ANOTHER ziplock bag. but then again most of this is already well packed and getting it wet wont hurt anything.

Seeya and thanks for the comment

    Dude

  • @80spodcastchannel

I'm not much on eating stuff cold. I've done a little YouTube research and most of the world's MRE entrees still come in cans that you set on top of the included foldout disposable hexamine tab stove. I don't see a problem with packing an Elbit hexamine stove and fuel tabs, along with a proper messkit and camp silverware set. Ever seen the knife/fork/spoon that attach together? Do they still make them, I wonder?

  • @pinz2022 Dude...in the service your trained to "Eat", cold hot..it's food and you gut down the nasty stuff, cause you know it'll keep you fighting. but, yeah, hot is a required in cold weather for the calories COLD food takes your body to warm up first is unacceptable. and as for the combo spoon knife fork..look here

    ebay item number 300553257549

I have one of those and they are hell for strong

    seeya

    Dude

  • @80spodcastchannel

Yup...that's exactly what I had in mind. I would consider that worth packing rather than having to rely on the enclosed plastic spoon and fork. While we're on the subject, what would you recommend for a mess tin? Something that you could scoop the Hormel spaghetti or Dinty Moore canned stew into to heat over the hexamine?

  • @pinz2022 Dude, the easiest way to heat a can of food is to "HEAT THE CAN", set it near the fire, or place the can in water and boil the water. cans can take being cooked in a few times until they start to lose seam integrity. usually, the BOTTOM of the can fails first cause it gets heated most. as for a MESS KIT...I like the TWO part MIL SPECS like this two for one on ebay. item number 380351701156, they're decent, but I'd jump on one that was never issued.

    Seeya

    Dude

  • @80spodcastchannel

That's what we need right now. A rugged, reliable milspec version of the ziploc freezer bag with a really reliable seal. MRE's could use em' too, as some contry's versions use the 24-hour ration pack system where you don't eat everything at once.

  • @pinz2022 Dude...the ZIPLOCK BRAND DOUBLE SEAL FREEZER Bags are pretty much as good as your going to get, store version. I'd say with the casual examination, they are about a 3 mil thickness and the "zippers" are pretty stout. I vacume pack as well,so that's a possibility, you can get a battery powered BAG SEALER,and they do work. but the "weld" needs to be cut out, and you lose a section when you cut off and reseal. thats it for a "rugged, reliable milspec version" commercially.

    Seeya

    Dude

  • @80spodcastchannel

Righto! That's what I've always used at home. When I've opened up a big bag of chips I often decant them into a large ziploc freezer bag as the seal keeps them from getting soggy and stale (especially during summer). When I whomp up a big batch of something I parcel it out among freezer bags but I always freeze them right away. When I thaw the stuff out the bag usually leaks.

As for the mess kit, ah, the classics. I guess some things can't be improved upon.

  • @pinz2022 Dude leaking on thaw means the bag either got stressed and cracked, or DOUBLE bag them and reuse the outer bag. yeah those mess kits are timeless, that why they still get alot of use. the basic design is very sound and they are pretty flat when stowed.

    Seeya

    Dude

  • @80spodcastchannel i ment if u are trying to light a fire with your lighter and is starts raining and u get your lighter wet

  • @themabdaguy Dude, that is VERY true, but I also carry a firesteel as a JUST IN CASE....good points though and stuff to think about. always have a back up....just in case

    Seeya

    Dude

  • I hope this vid was ment to be a joke, because you are hilarious, if not, well ya.......

  • @valhallawelcomesme Dude...I make serious videos that ARENT boring or TOO serious.

    may Odin bless your channel....

    Seeya

    Dude

  • @80spodcastchannel thanks for the cool words man, the vid did make me smile even when i ate my last mre here in Afganistan.

  • @valhallawelcomesme Dude....watch your six and stay out of Valhalla, we need you here.

but Asgard, aint a bad place to be.. lol

    Seeya Bro Stay Safe

    Dude

  • Great video man. I payed 7 bucks a piece for some MRE's the other day. never thought about making my own,And i can put what i like in them..good going..

    Thanks...

  • frist off the bic lighter could explode. 2nd thats way more then the millitary could afford to give out. and 3rd those poptarts and cans r to shinny for on the field

  • @MyPudge123 Dude...no they DONT "explode" they might pop and blow out all the butane, but they DONT explode, I set one on fire as an experiment, the plastic took forever and then I heard a whoosh and lighter flew like ten feet and it DIDNT even flame off..it went out. do you honestly think the military cant afford to spent three more dollars per MRE?? they spend a million dollars per cruise missile, and use them ALOT. ever heard of PAINT? nothing is "too shiny" if it's not in view.

    Seeya

    Dude

  • @80spodcastchannel

Some of the matches enclosed in certain armies' MREs are of the lacquered super-duper variety that go off like a flare and cannot be blown out. The whole matter of self-heating retort pouch MRE entrees is probably ease of use like when the weather is terrible and there are people nearby trying to kill you. Some country's MREs are full of shiny and colorful wrappers which is probably not a good thing to be piling up around a soldier's foxhole in a combat situation.

  • I think the big difference being that a lot of time you can pick up a MRE for about 2 - 5 dollars at your local Army/Navy store. To build the kit in the video would cost me around 15 dollars. MRE I think are all about balancing necessity and comfort with cost.

  • @07BlackCobaltLS Dude..what if they ran out of MRE's during SHTF?

and no..the MRE isnt a substitute for good portion control and also they arent DESIGNED for longer then a two week period. also the sodium level isnt good for you for very extended periods OR during times of low physical activity. MRE's are made to keep soldiers and other branches running during the worst possible times. you got to read up on this. do a bit more research on wwwDOTmreinfoDOTcom, I know of what I speak..

    Seeya

    Dude

  • mastacation lol

  • Wow and I was over paying for MRE's all this time....thanks

  • @CAPcadetHertzog Dude...no problem, glad to help. please check out my other videos too.

    Seeya

    Dude

  • maybe add an energy bar .

  • @19wael96 Dude...I was thinking that, but was working out of a dollar store. lucky for mew..it's real close in my neighborhood.

thanks for the comment and your views.

    Seeya

    Dude

  • MREs are made to withstand extreme temperatures and the lighter fluid in that bic lighter would probably freeze or blow up. that is why the military put matches in the mre. but im assuming soldiers fight in moderate temperatures so a bic lighter can REALLY help. the spaghetti entree container is too large. how many do you expect to carry?

  • @ganaschico Dude..you lose the need for cooking gear with the ready meals.

and the reason they dont put lighters in there is they dont STORE well. MRE's are frozen, and STAY frozen until they are needed. look on the side of a case of MRES they state "no need to refreeze" and MRE's are FRAGILE! when frozen.hence the statement "do not rough handle when frozen" how many to carry? if I was vehicle based? AS MANY AS I COULD CRAM IN THERE, foot based?...I wouldnt be. no chance of resupply.

    Seeya

    Dude

  • @80spodcastchannel well this is just my critique. ive never eaten or made a mre b4

  • @ganaschico Dude...online sites and ebay have them and you can try them.

OOooooor slide into a dollar store and build your own wwwmreinfocom is excellent for learning about them...thanks again for your time spent watching my videos bro

    Seeya

    Dude

  • Sooooo funny, you are a legend, good times &;) xxx

  • @wildrose39 Dude'ette...first off, thanks so much for liking my video. I greatly appreciate your channel help and your kind words. You ROCK!!

    Seeya Hun

    Dude

  • Hey, I joined the Army in 1987, so I'm of a similar vintage, and I had a similar experience with those early MRE's. Remember the dehydrated Beef Patties? Yuck! Even if they DO have stuff like pesto in them nowadays, they certainly have come a LONG way in taste and quality!

  • @gschultz9 Dude...I assembled an entired CASE of the pork and beef patties...awww I love them so.

not alot of content but MMmmmm so soooo good. the pesto was nasssty, I hate pesto.

please check out my stomach distruction testing video for me chowing down a week of vintage brown mre's and the one new one which was a chicken pesto...bleagh...foul fowl.

    Seeya bro

    Dude

    Dude

  • pumkin seeds are a good idea

  • @KeshaIsHot808 Hey Thanks so much, I was thinking of an additonal protein source and something to chew on to get you mind off your problems..

    Seeya

    Dude

  • Enemy shoots your lighter and you go boom. Matches are way safer( Damn Butane will set you on fire :D)

  • @jyhammy Dude..nah..shoot a lighter sometime, I think you got bigger issues with the bullet hitting your ass and making a hash of thing BEYOND the lighter. they just shatter and the butane evaporates off. I've actually set on on fire, and the plastic takes FOREVER to melt and then it just goes WHOOSH, blows out the flame and puff all the gas out. no boom, no drama, kinda like a bottle rocket..just "ssssssssss FLWAHH...piff"

    sorry, no boomie, LOL

    Seeya bro

    Dude

  • @jyhammy Butane sucks in the cold.

  • @mostlymichaelcanada Dude, that's why you keep the lighter near your skin, to keep it warm.

    Seeya

    Dude

  • @80spodcastchannel Your right but when your in the arctic, butane still doesn't burn well. But your absolutely right in any other climate, a cheap lighter rules.

Keep up the great vids! :)

  • @mostlymichaelcanada Dude..old soldier line..

"You make do with what you got. and you find a way to make it work...or your gonna DIE!!!"

    Seeya bro

    Dude

  • when were you in the United States Marine Corps? let me guess 1960-1980

  • @jyhammy Dude..naw not quite, I only graduated high school in 1985(hence why I own a 1985 Honda CRX Si), I entered the Marine Corps and went to Parris Island in late JAN85 , and left officially In MAR1990. My MOS was BF3518 MOTOR TRANSPORT. so basically I was a mechanic, and now I hate working on cars I own. even though I CAN..

thanks for the views and comments man, greatly appreciated.

    Seeya

    Dude

  • Interesting video man. I like your voice and energy. Any way, I don't think I could eat one of those Hormel meals cold. Too bad they don't have a fancy heater like the military MRE.

  • @trose01 Dude..thanks for the views and comments, hunger prevails and you can if you NEED to...LOL

    Seeya

    Dude

  • You probably match the salt. I did not hit the protein until I saw the sea food--both items I wouldn't eat! Good ideas.

  • @m005kennedy Dude...smoked fish and shell fish flat out rock...try them seomtime, you might be a bit surprised at HOW much you enjoy them.

    Seeya bro

    Dude

  • you have the best announcer voice

  • @Ranger115gamer Dude, thanks for all the channel help and your kind words, I'm maxed out on my subs, but I added you as a friend. consider yourself a newly annointed member of the 80spodcastchannel, please check back often for new videos and frequent updates..

    Seeya

    Dude

  • What's the cost comparative between your mre and a basic mre? What are the actual numbers? Just curious.

    Thank you.

  • @freedog008 Sure.. the tins of food and pretty much every component cost a buck, but then again it was equal to one and half or TWO MRE's portions of foods. so cost wise, I'd say they are a close cost per unit if not maybe a bit less. but then again you cant buy an off the shelf MRE from a dollar store, but by doing it like this, you can.

  • @80spodcastchannel Thank you so much. How does the nutrition compare? In the end, how much bang for your buck are you getting. I'm probably wrong but I heard the Army MRE was very high in certain nutritional areas to compensate for the stress in combat?? My goal is to create bugout meals for my partner and myself in a crisis...thoughts?

  • @freedog008 Dude...MRE's are soldier proofed, and tested to complete satisfaction of the us military.

BUT!!!...very high in sodium( to keep soldiers hydrated), and fat (to keep energy levels up in high stress and extended harsh living), but MRE's ARE NOT perfect. I'd think mine arent too far off the mark. but NEITHER are a balanced diet. there will be vitamins missing in both, you'd need some calcium, and trace minerals. I'd back EITHER of them with a good multivitamin daily .

  • @freedog008 CONTINUED..also MRE's are NOT intended to live on for extended periods, the sodium load is too high, and you need fresh food for your body to utilize the complete package of good stuff, which canned and packaged foods arent going to have in sufficent quantities for good general health in the long view. You CAN live on preserved food, but you need to counter alot of potential problems which wont be occurring if you eat a mix of tinned and fresh.

    Seeya

    Dude

  • @80spodcastchannel

I read somewhere that every army does it's best to get field kitchens up to the front as soon as possible because it's considerably cheaper as well as healthier as MREs are considerably more expensive than hot chow.

  • Is that serioulyy ur real voice

  • @uncoolkid2 Dude....nope, but my real voice would'nt make the channel unique.

some of my videos have my real voice and people didnt like it, so the "DUDE VOICE" returned and I stopped listening to my critics.

Seeya bro, thanks for the views and comments

  • @zombiebus Ddue..nope, but looking them up on the mre info. website..damnnnn those are ALOT of food.

I'd tend to think that it is a three day unit. pretty cool in any even. and thanks for the good information. from general appearence and availiablity..I'd say my chances of encountering one are slim at best.

  • are you making your voice sound heroic or is that the way you reguarly talk

  • @reaper83001 Dude..define "Heroic" are we talking Demi God Inuyasha heroic, or merely Gajin Sugoi Amerikansusha? Dore Wa Doku Desu Ka?

ok enough BAKA (horseplay) I know MANGA, and your channel is covered in pretty cool stuff, but sliding in with a semi snide comment is hardly if you'd want to keep from being blocked on bigger channels. I dont do that publically either. but dude...WTF?

no, I dont talk like that normally..your next question?

    Seeya,

    Dude

  • @80spodcastchannel okay , that sortta helped alot ill use ur advice but my comment doesnt reflect on my channel though

  • @reaper83001 you might have to be an accepted friend for that to happen...dunno, I never put that in the channel updates. I do way to much on youtube and wanted my bulletins and new videos to post so my subs can find the newest videos easier by just hitting the channel page. youtube has muddied the waters so much now it's hard to keep updated on the guys you WANT to watch.

other then that..just check back every so often...

    Seeya

    Dude

    Sayonara reaper sama

  • how do u make food last as long as MRES?

  • @TheiTouchGuys Dude....Weeeeeeel, you need a radiation source, vacume packing and gvoernment budgets. then install all the food in the research stated soldier proof package, steam cook it, then literally nuke it for an hour..THEN make it financially feasable by selling it for a disgusting mark up...LOL

Dude for home use. look up guys like dsarti1 and the rest of the prepper community here on youtube, their MY braintrust for information.

    Seeya bro
