aaa i love crusedes especially when you own the colage of cardinals you call a crusade against any one you want and then almost all cristian powers go and do all the job for you =D
I always end up pissing off the Pope and then, he calls a crusade on my capital. Once, I had to deal with three different armies laying siege on Frankfurt within 5 turns. It was great fun.
how often are those crusades being called? i try to ask pope for a crusade but the cross button is greyed out and it says: "not enough time has passed since the last crusade". but its been over 10 turns already.
@Holt1718 I think it sometimes depends on how much he likes you and whether or not he's from your faction. I have my pope in the Vatican and 10 turns is usually as long as it takes to get a new crusade.
@djordjepilot3000 when a crusade is called you need be a catholic faction and not excommunicated. click on one of your family members to bring up the information scroll and there should be an option on the bottom of that for joining the crusade. if you do it right youl get a cross over the general is question. crusading armies get higher movement, access to unique crusade units, higher morale and cost no upkeep, but if you don't attack the right targets unit start to desert. hope this helps
@burakislauw Christianity was never true over the ages. There are always good and bad people. The bad people are the people who use the religious doctrines to commit robberies from the good people and spread corruption and destroy the church from within. The good people are the people who spread the good word to the people, the word that is true and meaningful. Unfortunately we cannot say over a period of time Christianity was always a true religion.
I think a large number of Total War fans will agree with me on this: Medieval 2 TW is the most interesting game in series with all the fancy things going on with Crusades and stuffs, but the combat itself somewhat lacks depth. My opinion so far: most interesting M2 TW, best looking S2 TW, best combat Rome TW.
@colodius I mostly agree, but two things that I wish Medieval 2 had kept from Medieval 1 are recruitable inquisitors (Med2 inquisitors are rather unhistorical and a pain to deal with. Condemning my friggin prince to the stake! as if that ever happened!). And the other thing being civil wars, which back then allowed campaigns to get interesting even during the late game .
Also I think shogun 2 has better battles, simply because the AI is much more improved on that game.
@Wuanslm I agree Shogun 2 has much better AI but the combat itself is limited too much within the rps format. In Rome TW, they did tons of study to give us real battle formations that are interesting both to understand and to use. The mix of cultures and war-styles in Rome TW can't really be found in any other TW. I hope they study Asian ancient warfare and got a TW on that, which will be totally awesome.
@porterbehling I'm a christian but I wouldn't go as far as to call them heroes
They were led astray by a false promise of doing God's work, but how is massacring hundreds and thousdands of Jewish and Muslime civillians Godly? It's one of the great crimes commited by my faith
Alway make me wonder, Jesus was a very pacifistic person but medieval catholicism is so violent. When did Jesus every say "I want you to wage holy war and claim Jerusalem for christianity ?"
@XXGDUBSXX Its the Medival Mindset, Christianity was influenced by Pagans, By that I mean it was easy to convert barbarians but it was hard to make them give up their customs, so the Church just worked them in case in Point Saturnalia becomes Christmas Lupercalia becomes the Feast of the nativity and so on,
@MinisterKGB Yeah, But thats why Im not a christian because Im by no means pacifistic and war intrigues me, I'd feel like a hypocrite if I considered myself a christian.
@XXGDUBSXX Oh I Get you I think Organized religion is like the Mafia, A big protection Racket, I am an Atheist. I have always enjoyed history but the Rise of christianity and islam are a bit of a dark stain. Some good wars to study though. Whats your favorite Period / war?
@MinisterKGB I dont know if I would call it a stain, I dont care for the fanaticism that crops up every now and then from it but I think it help gave rise to regional Identities (western world, middle east, far east). I don't think I have a favorite Period/War. I have more interest in learning of the best warriors in differant time periods, the ones that dedicate their lives to it and try and perfect the art of warfare, the ones who act honourably and accept death instead of trying to avoid it.
@XXGDUBSXX I only call it a stain because, if things had continued along the roman path ( Without them Devolving and relying on Germans) I think the Natural sciences medicine and mathematics.would have continued to develop uninterupted by a crash of civilisation. any way if you like the medival times I would suggest Reading A world lit only by Fire by William Manchester. I'm more of an Asian History- War man myself
@MinisterKGB Meh, Medical science (when it comes to dieseases) is redudent, all it does is postpone a disease until it mutates and becomes immune to any vaccine or cure and all these pills they have just weaken the human immune system. Also, technology often speeds up 10 fold in times of warfare, all the conflict in the medieval era may have made a lot of modern tchnology possible.
@XXGDUBSXX Oh yes without a doubt the warfare sped up modern advances, But the Infrastructure of the romans and the Overal literacy of the common man, coupled with warfare I think would have been more beneficial
@MinisterKGB Yes, But ironically though it was the monks in the monastary and the Islamic scholars that were literate and tried to keep the old literature alive, Many of the writings of greek philosophers were preserved by Islamic scholars.
Haha, I remember this :P I would always suck up to the pope and then wage crusades on strategic cities to further my own goals and expand my borders. At some times I would even wage war on excommunicated factions near my borders. The warriors were cheap but numerous and willing ^^

@Varyalover Heathen is a complicated term and at the time was generally reserved for the pagans. Heretic refers to one who goes against the teachings of the church and who is part of the church, thus it would have been incorrect to call the Muslims heretics.
Infidel or unbeliever are the best terms to describe Muslims from the Medieval Christian perspective.
The Crusaders, Lionheart... criminal murderer and general of the genocide in Ma'arat, Cyprus and Jerusalem... get the fuck outta here, cannibal Crusaders...
@Randomstuffs261 Easier said than done. Anatolia waas a region full of divided states of a vicious people called the Seljuks. The Crusaders actually attempted to take Anatolia in the 2nd Crusades and later ones, but the Seljuks proved too powerful to defeat.

@ivaflimkien I am descently read in the Crusades and European history. You are the one who need to read history. Anyone one who at least understands the fundamental facts of the Crusades would agree my overall statement.
@MartialartsDog decently read* yeah ok maybe the muslims killing christian pilgrims had nothing to do with it-or the crusader attraction to eastern land
The continent-wide powerful Faith of the Christian nations in medieval times really is inspiring. To march thousands of miles facing fatigue, starvation, cruel weather, and desertion is harsh enough, but then to wage war in a hot, unforgiving foreign land? That takes the spirit of God, and true devotion.
Y'know, if it wasn't for the Crusades, Iranians wouldn't be calling us the "Great Satan" right now. Without these, I could see much fewer hostilities between Christians and Muslims. No Crusades means no 9/11. Stupid Urban the Second.
@wavefuncproduction Pope Urban is not a evil as modern revisionists make him out to be. Most of the attrocities by the Crusaders were done by individuals and not necessarily supported by the Pope. In fact the Pope actually condemned the horrors committed by the Crusaders such as the pogroms against Jews.
@LiamWillowbrand It also might have something to do with how the CIA overthrew a democratic government and replaced it with an oppressive dictatorship to suit it's needs...Just saying.
@LiamWillowbrand You know if it wasn't for the jihad against the christian middle east and spain, the pagan india ans so on there never would have been a crusade nor these problems facing the middle east today, learn some history, the crusades where a natural response from an expansionistic abrahameic religion against another expansionisic abrahameic religion waging it's own holy war against the house of war. In the end it was inevitble.
@LiamWillowbrand Not true-there were alread hostilities between Arab Muslims and Italians in Italy years before the Crusades. The Crusades was a response to stop Arab conquests.
there are a lot of reasons for the crusades, for example, there was a lot of intern fighting among nobles in feudal Europe. A crusade was one way to divert that violence to an external enemies. That makes the crusades an important katalyst in the forming of nation states:)
Orthodox factions should be allowed to participate in crusades but not under the rule of the pope....According to history the byzantine empire (orthodox faction) took part in the 1st 2nd and 3rd crusade....
@dusern100 get 8 soldiers under the command of a family member... then select the member and at the bottom left click "join the crusade", if that doesn't work, I might be wrong...but i'm pretty sure, that's how I did it...hope that helps!!!
It is time for the armies of Christ to put aside their differences and unnite under the sign of the cross. Riiiight...if theres one thing that I dont like about M2TW is that diplomacy is useless.
@porterbehling You know what sickens ME? Overzealous religious dickbags who feel "proud to be Christian" when given a speech about how millions of people died over some pointless shit like the crusades.
@JumbledFilms wow, your a real prick aren't you. Call random people names, act like a douchbag, and try to make others seem like the bad guys when your Elitist thoughts are worse.
I can tell from your "jumbledFilms" that you are young, and there for do not know much about the world. Your still naive. So I'm going to be the Bigger Man and walk away.
Because frankly, I don't give a damn about your opinion.
HINT: read up on Christianity, you'll find it's done a lot more good than bad.
@PowerTJB No, it's the fact that we were once so strong that we had entire armies fighting in the name of our Lord and Men who would die for the cross.
Don't get me wrong, do I support what we did in the Crusades, not really. But when so many people are willing to fight and die for my Religion, that just really inspires me.
Come on though... the Allies killed loads of people in world war 2... does that make them monsters?
@PowerTJB You could also put it into the context of someone willing to fight and die for their country... soldiers. Have soldiers had to kill people... of course, but that doesn't make them monsters.
@lordofdarkdudes hey is war hell? War is terrible and of course I'm not happy about the innocent people killed... but in EVERY war innocent people are killed. But that's not what I'm proud of, what I'm proud of is the fact that people were willing to give there lives for Christianity and that these Men fought and died for the Cross... to me, they are heroes, same as the American soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy, same as the american soldiers in Vietnam. But that's just my opinion.
@Redhammer627 I'd rather be the Muslim in this time period. There is a lot of history and i can just say that without the muslims, we may never have had a renaissance. The muslims reintroduced the Europeans to the finer things in life+advanced mathematics and tech. Today the tables are flipped, Euros and Americas more or less more powerful than the muslim countries. I'm not a huge fan of religion, just its history.
Wow, there is a stylized map of Europe and the Levant under the cross from 32 -36 seconds in. You can make out the Iberian penninsula, France and Italy on the left, Scandinavia in the back and the Cross covers Eastern Europe and the Levant.
lol i got a crusade on one of my castles :P message me if u want to know what happend (nothing hase happend so far and it's been 2 turns but i got war declaurd on me by other factions
I remembered how I joined the crusade early in the game while playing the dutch. I managed to capture Tunise but man it turned out to be a pain in the ass. In the end, I said screw you elves, I'm outta here, and left. Major waste of time.
please tell me how to join the holy crusade! I go to jerusilim with my army and see no one else! i go to the city it says at the top of this scroll video but dont know what to do!
@Marine112672 You need first to join the crusade, click in your general then at the botom there is an option with a cross. You got a time limit to join it.
right click the general (with at least 8 other units in the group) there should be a icon for Crusade(cross) on the buttom left corner. After that General joined crusade, you will automatically declare war to that country being attack by crusaders. And you need to move that army as soon as possible to the target city.
@Marine112672 U must be in good standings with the pope... U can then either request a crusade or the pope may call one himself.... I am Spain and I have a Pope in power so it was really easy for me to start a crusade on Jerusalem lol. And yeah u also need a general with like 8 troops to join. right click on your general and on bottom left it should say join crusade.
Crusades were just a fight for a land and power like basicaly every other war in medieval times.Double standards by the west.Pope sent crusades only when it was politicaly useful. For example,we Serbs, the Byzantines and Bulgarians pleaded for help when Turks landed in Europe but noone helped until it was too late and Turks were already at the gates of Vienna. With Western help they could have been destroyed as early as 1350 and bloody history of the Balkans would be quite different.
The First Crusade they did help the Byzantines. However Urban II had changed the goal the from helping Byzantium, to getting getting Jerusalem. you guys were just on the way.
The pope before Urban, Hildebrand, he simply wanted to help you guys out.
Well met commander. I'm Sir Eulexis, the Son of Jesus Christ the Lord. And I'm going to lead you to perform the first crusade. If you success to capture the Holy City.God's children now find salvation in the Kingdom of Heaven
I feel really bad for the Muslims that were there. I mean how crappy it must have been to be farming your crops and to see a Christian knights coming over the hills and be like, "who the hell are they? never seen them before must be newcomers," and then get hit in the face with a sword. I'm sorry but when the Byzantine Empire's patriarch asked the Pope for some help with the Turks invading them, he didn't want all of Europe storming over and bettering the shit out of them.
lmao. I was playing a medieval II total war called "The Long Road" and I was playing as the Kieven Rus,a russian orthodox christian faction and it was quite funny, i noticed how crusades and jihads were being called back and forth, seriously it was like all the catholics banded together to fight the muslims who allied themselves together as well, fighting each other over and over,..and then there was me and the Byzantines stuck in the middle :P
i know but the rebels kill alot of muslims the crusaders they free them i know the legend if you were a crusaders what do you do protect them i bileve
When I see this vid...I am proud to be a Catholic.....I am from Croatia ..and there where crusaders in the city of Zadar..I mean a order of crusaders.....GOD IS WHIT US....IN HEAVEN AND IN HELL !!!!!
aaa i love crusedes especially when you own the colage of cardinals you call a crusade against any one you want and then almost all cristian powers go and do all the job for you =D

there are a lot of reasons for the crusades, for example, there was a lot of intern fighting among nobles in feudal Europe. A crusade was one way to divert that violence to an external enemies. That makes the crusades an important katalyst in the forming of nation states:)

Orthodox factions should be allowed to participate in crusades but not under the rule of the pope....According to history the byzantine empire (orthodox faction) took part in the 1st 2nd and 3rd crusade....

dusern100 1 year ago
@dusern100 get 8 soldiers under the command of a family member... then select the member and at the bottom left click "join the crusade", if that doesn't work, I might be wrong...but i'm pretty sure, that's how I did it...hope that helps!!!

an army of the almight son of God Jesus Christ cannot be defeated!
Jesus and his followers forms a army that will crush the infidels
phoenixking321 1 year ago
It is time for the armies of Christ to put aside their differences and unnite under the sign of the cross. Riiiight...if theres one thing that I dont like about M2TW is that diplomacy is useless.

@JumbledFilms you know what sickens me... people who are complete jackasses to total strangers on the internet....
porterbehling 9 months ago
@porterbehling You know what sickens ME? Overzealous religious dickbags who feel "proud to be Christian" when given a speech about how millions of people died over some pointless shit like the crusades.
JumbledFilms 9 months ago
@JumbledFilms wow, your a real prick aren't you. Call random people names, act like a douchbag, and try to make others seem like the bad guys when your Elitist thoughts are worse.
I can tell from your "jumbledFilms" that you are young, and there for do not know much about the world. Your still naive. So I'm going to be the Bigger Man and walk away.
Because frankly, I don't give a damn about your opinion.
HINT: read up on Christianity, you'll find it's done a lot more good than bad.

@JumbledFilms the crusades were fucking awesome. a good reason for me to rape women and massacre innocent people.

@porterbehling im not chistian i still think its a good vid cuz u can slaughter muslims
tievesjoodenaap 9 months ago
@porterbehling That you killed loads of people?
PowerTJB 7 months ago
@PowerTJB No, it's the fact that we were once so strong that we had entire armies fighting in the name of our Lord and Men who would die for the cross.
Don't get me wrong, do I support what we did in the Crusades, not really. But when so many people are willing to fight and die for my Religion, that just really inspires me.
Come on though... the Allies killed loads of people in world war 2... does that make them monsters?
porterbehling 7 months ago
@PowerTJB You could also put it into the context of someone willing to fight and die for their country... soldiers. Have soldiers had to kill people... of course, but that doesn't make them monsters.
porterbehling 7 months ago
@porterbehling wait what? WHY?!
lordofdarkdudes 6 months ago
@lordofdarkdudes umm... excuse me? "WHY?!" about what?
porterbehling 6 months ago
@porterbehling you dont much about the crusades do you?
lordofdarkdudes 6 months ago
@lordofdarkdudes wow, you word your responses terribly, but yes I know plenty about the crusades.
porterbehling 6 months ago
@porterbehling well then you would know that the crusaders were quit happy for killing inconet pepole
lordofdarkdudes 6 months ago
@lordofdarkdudes hey is war hell? War is terrible and of course I'm not happy about the innocent people killed... but in EVERY war innocent people are killed. But that's not what I'm proud of, what I'm proud of is the fact that people were willing to give there lives for Christianity and that these Men fought and died for the Cross... to me, they are heroes, same as the American soldiers who stormed the beaches of Normandy, same as the american soldiers in Vietnam. But that's just my opinion.
porterbehling 6 months ago
@porterbehling how is killing muslims taking thiere land figthing for god?
lordofdarkdudes 6 months ago
@lordofdarkdudes because muslems are rats and need to be exterminated.

@Redhammer627 you just stealing my words my friend i will die trying in honour of christianity and almighty god
phoenixking321 1 year ago
@Redhammer627 I'd rather be the Muslim in this time period. There is a lot of history and i can just say that without the muslims, we may never have had a renaissance. The muslims reintroduced the Europeans to the finer things in life+advanced mathematics and tech. Today the tables are flipped, Euros and Americas more or less more powerful than the muslim countries. I'm not a huge fan of religion, just its history.
DeathlyDavid 9 months ago
Wow, there is a stylized map of Europe and the Levant under the cross from 32 -36 seconds in. You can make out the Iberian penninsula, France and Italy on the left, Scandinavia in the back and the Cross covers Eastern Europe and the Levant.

please tell me how to join the holy crusade! I go to jerusilim with my army and see no one else! i go to the city it says at the top of this scroll video but dont know what to do!
Marine112672 2 years ago
@Marine112672 You need first to join the crusade, click in your general then at the botom there is an option with a cross. You got a time limit to join it.
MPSguy 2 years ago
So from I hve an army click on the general from anywhere on the map. i dont gotta go anwhere specific?
Marine112672 2 years ago
right click the general (with at least 8 other units in the group) there should be a icon for Crusade(cross) on the buttom left corner. After that General joined crusade, you will automatically declare war to that country being attack by crusaders. And you need to move that army as soon as possible to the target city.
TimLugia 2 years ago
@Marine112672 U must be in good standings with the pope... U can then either request a crusade or the pope may call one himself.... I am Spain and I have a Pope in power so it was really easy for me to start a crusade on Jerusalem lol. And yeah u also need a general with like 8 troops to join. right click on your general and on bottom left it should say join crusade.
elkpointscanner 2 years ago
Create an Army with 8 units inside it, then right click on your General it'll show you the General's Traits and etc.
Find the "Join the Crusade" button there.

With Western help they could have been destroyed as early as 1350 and bloody history of the Balkans would be quite different.
sumadinac92 2 years ago
@sumadinac92
The First Crusade they did help the Byzantines. However Urban II had changed the goal the from helping Byzantium, to getting getting Jerusalem. you guys were just on the way.
The pope before Urban, Hildebrand, he simply wanted to help you guys out.

OrdoLord 2 years ago
Well, don't feel bad. They started it. The Crusades is only the second half of the story.
