hey bro, i will be doing this procedure to my 01 civic tomorrow and i want to use the new ball joint boot or what ever its called. now im just wondering, what is the correct name for it and where could i purchase this boot? honda dealer? autozone? thanks for the DIY good info!
I did that to my 2000 Accord except it was dry and I bent the Cradle, the rim, control arm, the sway bar, deployed the side airbag, ruined all the tires and broke an engine mount. Ya Im a dumb teenager learned an expensive lesson though.
My mechanic said my car's suspension is ruined. It is a civic with 145,000 miles and he says I should start by replacing the front and rear lower control arms. Do you agree? You seem like and expert.
Hmm... The pickle fork is the best way, you risk damaging the ball joint if you beat on the threaded part, It would probably be best to buy a fork, they should be pretty cheap at a autozone type store.
@sweetashonneybaby Never, ever use a pickle fork to separate the lower arm ball joint. Not only will it tear your ball joint rubber boot which protects the joint from water and contamination, the strong banging of the pickle fork wil most likely damage the ball joint itself. The correct tool is the " ball joint lifter " Search this on the Amazon website & you will get to see what it looks like. It uses gradual force by tightening a bolt to separate the joint. It can also be used for the tie-rod.
I ripped the boot with a pickle fork and didnt replace it. what kinds of cool probs should I expect? Lower ball joint seizing?
