Great video. Canada has much better meat and meat selections, I'm not surprised at how large that bird is. I miss Canada! It's so wonderful up there, your family is so blessed!
well the original in the oven idea is out the door deep fried is the only way to go to make shure it is moist this is done by searing the out side skin so u don't loose the juices and tastes way better too
wow homestead...that looks great !!! i love smashed potaters....with lumps. let me know when ur making more and ill be over. Hey *shaurz*...cool sagan quote.
I put two or three streaky bacon strips on a chicken before I roast it, I find that I don't have to baste it as much if I do that. Good for flavour too.
I cooked a turkey which was 26 lbs, I ended up with 10 lbs of meat when I was done. it was 86c a lb but I believe I would be futher ahead just getting a turkey meat by itself would of save me all the cooking time. But I understand traditional meals. Looks like you got this down pat.. :)
I guess it depends on the area your in. A turkey here is 2 to 3.00 + a pound depending on brand and time of year. But precooked turkey is twice that. I also make soup from the bones that makes many more meals as well.
Roasted chicken is my families' favorite meal! So easy and usually lasts a couple meals depending on the size of the bird. Was that chicken from a supermarket or was it from a farm?
Thanks for the video. Of course if the neck, gibbles, e.g., are in the bird it should be defrosted so that they can be removed prior to roasting. Your bird sure looked delicious!
If your not using them for anything then it's just fine to leave them in. I always have. :-) I remove them latter when I'm removing the rest of the meat from the bird.
They should be heat proof, I've never had one melt or anything wrong happen. Dh doesn't like the "innards" so we don't use them. Critters love them though. I use the meat off the neck same as the rest when I pick it apart latter.
Of course I know how to roast a chicken or turk, but I love watching your videos because of the way you guys make me feel - part of a more natural life.
Trying out your method now! just a small roaster chicken shouldn't take as long..

Does your husband ever cook? (not Poptarts either). Surely he has a recipe for Canadian potato pancakes!

Can you really leave that plastic bag inside the bird while cooking? You guys are eating a feast tonight! Looks great!

Very good!
It is amazing, but so many people only have had chicken from a bucket or a restaurant. We need to get back to basics and a healthy way of eating...
Kudos!
