If border security and illegal immigration were important to Ron Paul, he would have never referenced Sen. Chuck Hagel and Rep. Dennis Kucinich (at 5:00). Each of them have horrible voting records with regard to border security and illegal immigration. This should provide a clue as to how important this subject is to him. He would be educated in where they stand.
he was very specific about referencing their views on foreign policy and not much else. All he said was that he'd look further at their stand on the issues if he weren't running himself. Dr. paul is a statesman, not a politician. If you want smooth, vote for edwards or obama, if you want competent, intelligent, informed and effective, then this is the guy
BTW, do you realize that all of the entities you mentioned are already managed at the local levels? The military funding could and should be cut to less than half what it is. Again, all of these things take a mindset change. If we can't do that, we can't progress.
Alternatives for what? Broken bureaucracies and crushing tax system? I could do just fine without those. He's suggesting as an alternative, that we spend less on unnecessary things and do away with inefficient bureaucracies. Let more be handled in the private sector and at the state and local level of politics.
Is he not concerned that private industry will also lack oversight?
As for eliminating taxes, they did that in Texas on the state level, and the result is sky high real estate taxes to make up the economic burden that has been a hardship for the less than wealthy. To do that federally...who would pay for eveything?
Ginerlynn, that's what the govt is for: protecting the people against tyrants (including corporations and countries) and protecting the constitution. It should not be their job to provide services. They are meant to oversee, not to manage. The entitlement mentality is our enemy and RP is trying to refocus people into that direction. Why do we always turn to the govt for our every problem??
My point, handy,is that they currently do,and those services are necessary, and they cost money...lots of it. Allocating these things state by state and setting up new systems would create a whole new level of local bureacracy with more power than they have now,and who would then finance the military, the FAA,the FBI,interstate hardscape, national parks and monument maintenance, etc?
What money do you think pays for those entities? It isn't your income tax. The amount of interest paid to the Fed is almost exactly what the nation pays in income tax. Get rid of the Fed and you get rid of the need for an income tax.
Youre arguing that centralized, federal government is superior/more efficient in addressing problems in a given state than THAT state's local government is?
And I have no way of knowing that we'd automatically see an equally-powerful and overarching LOCAL govt as soon as the FEDERAL govt was cut back and limited...and frankly neither do you.
I challenge him to offer alternatives. It is easy to condemn the shit that isnt working, vow to get rid of taxes and FEMA,etc.and get ppl to love you for it,but after watching many interviews,he does not answer direct questions about alternatives.
He is advocating a MUCH SMALLER central government whose main responsibilities would be defense and protecting the constitution...as in...what their job actually IS anyway.
He wants local and state governments, by contrast, to provide for whatever services and public needs as they see fit.
These arent radical ideas at all...its how the framework for govt. in this country was designed in the first place.
My guess is that there is no chance in hell for Ron Paul, unless the small number who endorse him essentially go to war for him. You will need to organize like no other effort of this kind before, on the small chance he does get elected don't forget the Kennedy's. I would like Ron to talk at some length about the power elite, they are real and they most likely run the planet including america - federal reserve!!!
It's called the internet. The revolution will not be televised, it'll be on message boards and blogs, where everyone has an opinion and information runs rampant. The internet is a very powerful thing, that's why alot of people support Ron Paul, he's for keeping the government FAR AWAY from the internet.
Jkirkand, he has talked at length about the fed. Have you seen the film "America: Freedom to Fascism"? Also, there are boatloads of video right here on youtube.
Punchey, you have to look at the whole picture, not just one figure. It all plays together on a global scale. There is natural global warming, yes. But the CO2 level increases coincide directly with the acceleration of temp increases. And those increased levels coincide directly with the addition of civil population. That population constructs power plants, and transports goods and people.
Looking at the whole picture, it is far from conclusive. Even lead IPCC coauthors (whose opinions were ignored in the final report) say that. To keep it brief, there's lots of reasons for this: temperature measurements are uncertain due to land use changes, most "global temperature" numbers are statistically unsound (ask a statistician), sea levels are similarly hard to measure due to tectonic action and tide variability, just to name a few.
If you are only looking at stats, you certainly aren't considering all of the variables. There are truck loads of evidence showing the affects of man-induced pollution. Saying otherwise is little more than putting your head in the sand. The problem exists and bad habits are largely (though not completely) to blame. I'm done with this thread. This will be a deal breaker for me. If RP is not acknowledging environmental policy needs, I'm withdrawing my support for him.
Punchey, you're right. I had to view it again because of all of the banter here. I am not sure about it being a property rights issue. I'll have to look more closely at that to understand what he's saying. On every other issue, he's pretty thorough.
What he's basically saying is instead of viewing it as a regulatory issue that is handled by a bureaucracy or by international treaty, it should be an issue of statutory law, framed in the context of property rights. i.e. It would be illegal to pollute your neighbor's property, and that would be the basis for such law.
Just finished watching these all in succession. Thanks a lot for uploading them. I'm glad to hear Ron Paul actually speak instead of have to continuously defend himself from some asshole interviewer. 5 stars, for sure. Go Ron Paul!
"We don't think a child of 13 should be held responsible as a man of 23. That's true for most people, but black males age 13 who have been raised on the streets and who have joined criminal gangs are as big, strong, tough, scary and culpable as any adult and should be treated as such. We are constantly told that it is evil to be afraid of black men, it is hardly irrational. Black men commit murders, rapes, robberies, muggings and burglaries all out of proportion to their numbers."
Ron Paul has already addressed these smear quotes. These were not his words, but someone who worked for him. There's a more detailed explanation on his site, I think.
I defy anyone to show me a video of another candidate that speaks this extensively and with such focus on details, reason, and logic. Ron Paul is the only Candidate that actually Educates his audience while speaking to them.
He called former US Rep. Barbara Jordan (D-TX) a "fraud" and a "half-educated victimologist." Paul also claimed former President Bill Clinton not only fathered illegitimate children, but that he also used cocaine which "would explain certain mysteries" about the President's scratchy voice. "None of this is conclusive, of course, but it sure is interesting," he said.
An aide wrote it, and he took responsibility for it, though he didn't agree with it. But if he was such a racist, why did he offer to help pay for a medal for Rosa Parks OUT OF HIS OWN POCKET? And why has he suggested Walter Williams as a running mate?
Have you got a recording of him saying this? Or Video? Or just the one Article from Houston Chronicle which has been debunked about 10,000 times. Funny how that leaky story is the only thing anyone can bring up bad on Ron Paul, And its not even true. And theres way more evidence to the exact opposite in Ron Pauls beliefs against racism. Now could you suggest anyone else like I asked? No. You cant.
Then where is his alternative to FEMA? He never answered that.
Without federal income taxes, how does he propose we pay for anything at all? No state taxes in Texas just placed the financial burden on property owners (can you afford $5600 a year on a 150k house? If you can,you are probably not in need of property tax reform of any kind)
We love the "get out of Iraq" "reduce government" parts, but if you condemn the existing, you must offer clear solutions to get the votes...and he does not.
Apparently so, since I know his plans on how to create something better than FEMA. Have you watched any of his other interviews? Have you read anything about him? It's hard to fit so much in just a short amount of time. Like he said though, businesses and people themselves can do alot better helping in a catastrophy then the government. A business will be quick to help people if they know they're going to lose customers. The government couldn't care less.
I have checked others, and I still do not hear him candidly answer what he would do in lieu of all of things he would like to get rid of. It still seems very vague.
At any rate,by merely admitting skepticism and asking questions respectfully, rather than praising him without reservation, however,I have already been blocked from commenting on any videos by one Paul supporter,so I will probably continue on my own.
I was skeptical at first of Ron Paul, and will most likely be a little skeptical until he gets into office and proves he can walk the walk and talk the talk. However, after researching all the candidates, both Republican and Democrat, he's the only one offering real change, not just the same ol' bullshit lines politicians have been feeding us for a long time. I'd never block your comments, we all have the right to debate, but not to insult.
Like most Americans, I'm skeptical of all politicians, however, Ron Paul's record proves he does believe in following the guideline set by our founding fathers, the Constitution, no other candidate has a record of following it so closely and logically.
No need to be condescending. I am familiar with the history of the amendment. Are you?
We were not dealing with a population of 300 million back in the beginnning of the 20th century, but the solvency of this country was STILL in jeopardy,so they were not doing so well without them. Hence the need.
I don't see the population size as being relevant. It would be relevant to the States (whose job it is to deal with domestic issues), but the Constitutional role of the Federal government is to deal with interstate disputes and issues, and to deal with foreign nations, and yes, to provide a national defense. What the real difference between the early 20th Century and today is, we now have a MASSIVE welfare state that is outstripping our ability to pay for it.
Larger populations mean more complex/expensive issues of medical care, law enforcment, etc, and if it would be then left to the states, just how do you think THEY will pay for everything? Answer:Enormous state tax increases.
Congress would never pass such legislation anyway,so it's kinda like the guy running for class president who promises 15 minute classes and free weed at lunch. Some may vote for the guy,but the ones with iq's in 3 digits know it's horseshit, and prefer realistic goals.
Yeah, I guess you're right, freedom is an unrealistic goal. In fact, that whole revolution thing... man, what a bunch of hopeless dreamers. They should have come down to earth and been more realistic, really.
Sarcasm solves nothing. There must be realistic solutions, but if all you see is a choice between a pipe dream or the crap we have no,that is up to you.
What I see as realistic, you see as unrealistic. My sarcasm was intended to illustrate the absurdity of your narrow thinking. But I don't think there's any further convergence we can hope for since we obviously hold different views as to what is possible.
If you'd just learn about what The Federal Reserve is rather than what you THINK it is. You might get a clue as to where most of our money is going right now, and how conveniently at the same time is when we started having to pay Income Tax. Watch The Money Masters, or any of a number of vids here on Youtube to get an understanding of this corrupt institution of foreign bankers please.
You miss the point of all of this. What makes you think that any President can,in one fell swoop, abolish the fed, correctly and efficiently re-allocate funds to the states with no gap in services? Do you think states would wait? Do you think Congress would allow such sweeping legislation? idealism is great but reality bites once you look into the practicability of such promises.
He answers all those questions if you'd bother looking. He said he would Pressure Congress, and we all know how easy they are to submit under pressure. Its not hard. Read about how he plans to remove the Fed instead of asking people here to explain. Dont be such a lazy bitch.
I commented about interviews and how he handled them. I dont want to look up what empty promises he is making. They ALL have sites full of bullshit. I want to hear him explain himself coherently when asked a specific question in a public forum.
Thanks for the name-calling,by the way. If your rude, arrogant, insulting behavior is typical of Paul supporters,he is definitely doomed.
Im a typical American. Not a representative. Sorry Im not PC friendly. You are lazy. You dont consider it important enough to research very important issues that are important to the future of America and spend all this time argueing before even trying to inform yourself. Theres TONS of videos here on YouTube where RP responds in open forums. More than ANY candidate so why are you here instead of listening to what you say you want?
Sorry,I expect a candidate to publicly answer questions cogently. I saw him dodge answering some very thoughtful ones, rambling on instead, and commented on it.
Now,because I obviously was interested enough to track him,and ask questions, but not 100% convinced,I have taken endless shit from the likes of you, been called names and told I am lazy. You are not just pc UNfriendly;you are rude and arrogant. Learn to accept that Paul may not be GOD to all of us.
He didnt say No Taxes. He said no Income Taxes. Learn the difference. There are many types of Taxes. Income Tax is unconstituional. He exactly offers the solutions. It just takes a Sledge Hammer to get through some ignorant heads out there. Ron Paul educates everytime he speaks. Can you please show me a video of another candidate who does this?
The Constitution was amended in 1913 to make income taxes Constitutional, fool. Are you calling the Constitution unconstitutional? The amendment had been ratified by the necessary three-quarters of the states ensuring the constitutionality of unapportioned federal income taxes. Eventually 42 states ratified it. Some weirdos have tried to say the Sixteenth Amendment was never "properly ratified." These and similar arguments have been universally rejected by the courts.
Ron Paul obfuscates when he speaks, just like they all do. They all want changes and all make promises without going into exactly how it can be accomplished. Stop insulting ppl who dont kiss Paul's ass for a minute and think about it.
"Alternative to FEMA?" You act as if FEMA has really outdone itself over these past 8 years or something. FEMA is a colossal failure; state-funded local organizations could do better IMO.
And federal income taxes dont pay for much as it is; they certainly arent helping us out of debt. Why not cut all the useless programs that dont work- but through their symbolism still got some politician elected- and ADMIT the obvious: that the govt cant solve all these problems?
I urge everyone who supports Ron Paul to make copies of this entire interview and give it to every person they know. If people after hearing this eloquent, smart, common sense matter of fact argument and policies don't vote for this man and become active in getting him elected then may God help us all.
If border security and illegal immigration were important to Ron Paul, he would have never referenced Sen. Chuck Hagel and Rep. Dennis Kucinich (at 5:00).
