If the Discus b is assampled, preflight'ed WHITH possetive control, and then disassemplpled for the record attemt, i would do the flight as well as the pilot did.
For those who dont know the Discus b, it is imposeble to assample it wrong whitout violence, and whith a handpict team like this, i think they would havve a better statestic whit 1000 assamplies like thisone, than the averige owerall..................
I've spent most of my working life as an airline engineer and most of my life as a glider pilot. If it can go wrong, it will. Nice for TV, but hardly recommended.
not a good record.. you NEVER skip checklists. making exceptions makes the whole concept of checklists, procedures and routines meaningless. routines and checklists are here for a reason: to keep airmen alive! there's no arguing that certain gliders cannot be assembled wrong, but doing stunts liek this just prooves you are not familiar with safety-thinking and so risk your life in one way or another.
There is a god reason for duing this record with a Discus b. It is simpel, you cannot sample it incorect regard the controls. Only the tailplane can be mounted wrong, and that takes a moron to do it. Regardles of other coments, i find this attemt ok, safty vice.
The rudder and cables are never disconnected on assembly or disassembly of the glider. A check is always good practice but in this case not really nessesary
This should be filed under "Records Not Worth Having"! No pre-flight, no positive control check, no safety!
FAR Title 14; Part 1; 1.1, Pilot in command means the person who:
(1) Has final authority and responsibility for the operation and safety of the flight;
This sort of thing should not to be praised. If they want to race for assembly times, then they should stop the clock, leave the aircraft on the ground, and inspect it for correct assembly rather than launch it.
Here EFKY "Kymi", we do ask-21 assembly with 2 people in 2 minutes. What do you say about that, stupid "selänpääläiset"

It's cool and all about how fast they can do that but come on man! Safety First.
I NEVER fly a glider of wich I don't know for sure that it was checked.
Even though I am still in a learning phase I do walk around the plane checking it again. just to be sure.

That´s just stupid...a fast assembly doesn´t make any sense at gliding...

Takes me longer to get strapped in, no positive control checks no DI just stupid.

Taitaa olla selänpää. EFRY:llä ei edes ole vintturia, eikä EFRYn radat ole 90 asteen kulmassa toisiinsa.

Kyllä on selänpää.
Sieltä löytyy hyviä korvasieniä ^^)

that is not funny because there is no safety!
87fliegermax 3 years ago
I prefer to look at this as a very carefully planned demonstration,
where you can notice that the brain of the operation is a blonde finnish,
carefully supervising and certainly ready to stop the op if the need arise.
It is also amazing to notice that particular sailplane holding itself together
with one bolt and one pin only.
IS NOT THIS SOME KIND OF MAGIC!!!!
(a wonder of German engineering)
dansco29 3 years ago
Brave - they choose not to check the controls (yes, I know they are self-connecting - but, hey, Murphy is everywhere).
tb27021964 3 years ago
nor they did apply sealing gap tape...........
dansco29 3 years ago
Yes , of course the controls are self-connecting...(for this recent model of glider). No't to be repeated with older model!
white108 3 years ago
very fast , but what about the SAFETY issues!!! all the controls must be made very slowly to be sure that everithing is fixed!!!
white108 3 years ago
Don't be a tart, they're self-connecting
