  • sorry but your accent needs a wee bit MORE PRACTICE!!!!

  • I think the back of your hand might taste nicer. (0;}

  • worst Scottish accent ever lol

  • @jay2022 yeah he sounds more like an inner city latina girl than a scot

  • thats disgusting

  • Everyone needs to calm down, it's just a cooking show. And its not like other countrys haven't made paradies about americans, we just laugh along with it and move on. It's not an attack on culture or anything else, he's just haven' a little fun with historical foods.

  • I don't know what's worse; an actual Haggis or this fucking "accent".

  • @lukestarspeeder Also, do you guys eat Haggis regularly? Or is it like an old folks dish like liver and onions? Just curious.

  • @lukestarspeeder You mean speak? I'm American. I can spell.

  • There's no such thing as too many onions

  • Oh RIP Good Eats, you were my true love!!

  • Alton Brown cooks chinese food ---- *squinty eyes* "Ahhh, ching chong ! Ching chong ! Dim sum chang !"

  • @lukestarspeeder .... I think the point is that Scottish food rather is "stone-man" like. I mean really apart from Single malt scotch you guys are really not known for your art and culture. Braveheart was good but wasn't he played by a Australian and betrayed by your own. I can't remember the last time I heard a bagpipe in a orchestra and will certainly never hear the words "what are we having for diner tonight? Scottish food??".

Just be thankful your not Irish. LMAO

  • @goonerdotcom actually, the Scots are Celts, who are known for their art, knot work, and stone carving. Additionally, Bagpipes have even been found in rock bands, and are a noted difficult instrument to play, let alone master. Alba gu Brath.

  • @goonerdotcom our Culture has contributed to society 2nd only to the ancient greek. Our contributions to science and excellence on the battlefield are unrivaled in the modern world. We are few, but we are great. Educate yourself on thinks before you open your mouth and reveal your ignorance and use more than a wildy inaccurate movie to judge a culture

  • @goonerdotcom I laughed at this video too and i know its in good fun, but your comments are starting too stray a wee bit too far

  • @lukestarspeeder - If you're going to call someone stupid, best not screw up when spelling words like SPEAK. I think Alton was a bit more accurate than you'd like to believe.

  • WOW.....I smell some smug...either that, or some of you people are just way too sensitive to have Internet access.......Take that stick out of your ass and chill the hell out, FFS!!!!!

  • Thank you Alton for your education through Entertainment. Until 2 min ago I didnt know what a haggis was, or the relation to the Scots. Open minded as I am, I will put making haggis on my to-do list. Going to Scotland was already on my list, but the ignorance I have read in these comments could tamper w/ my decision. I will defend Alton and his exceptionalism anyday. Could spend the next few minutes slamming a scot-chef, but the Alton-perfected RibEye I just consumed has made me sleepy. Nite

  • BAHAHAHA He sounds more Austrialian then Scottish.

  • As an American, a haggis lover, and an actor, I'm aesthetically offended by the TERRIBLE quality of the accent, Alton has done better! Seriously though Scotland, we love you, don't be upset, Alton takes the piss out of everything.

  • I think I'll pass on Haggis... and, based on the posts... Scots.

  • Being American and all, I was gonna look for a Scottish cooking-program to meticulously scrutinize anonymously over the internet, but then I remembered I DON'T CARE ABOUT SCOTLAND.

  • @lukestarspeeder Haha, you got owned

  • If "Ahnuld" and Shrek had a retarded lovechild it would be this twat! Who the hell just compared this ass to Monty Python? Sod off Alton!

  • LOL, that's so funny!

  • Love it!!

  • You think these Scots and Brits would have a clue. Ever Heard of Monty Python? Benny Hill? Its Parody!!! Get a clue please. Rock on Alton.

  • For Pete's sake, LAUGH! It's Alton Brown! He doesn't claim to be able to mimic any accents. He is just trying to present the preparation of what many find to be an offensive food in a humorous way. Understanding the hardships faced by the Scots under English rule, every part of an animal had to be used to feed ones family. There is great history to be learned and this is not historical. Poke fun at Americans. We can take it. We poke fun at ourselves all the time.

  • @lukestarspeeder I also am Scottish....from Glasgow.....and unless you missed the neds, yea, we're still dumbass backward people. Have a sense of humour, relax.....or you'll get "the bak o' me haund!"

  • TO MUCH ONION! bwahahahaha...btw...being from Scotland, I hate haggis....seriously...

  • This really is an embarrassing depiction of the Scottish. Scotland is far from a land full of cavemen, they have produced some of the greatest minds in history. Alexander Fleming the inventor of penicillin. The father of economics, Adam Smith. John Logie Baird as the inventor of the world's first television system. Alexander Graham Bell was a Scot as well as the inventor of the telephone. Not to mention John Paul Jones the first commander of the US Navy in 1777 and lets not forget Halloween..

  • I have tried haggis before at a scottish restraunt near my house, and to be truthfully honest its actually not that bad. The only thing I will say is that a little bit goes a long way. Its definitely not a dish for a main course

  • @lukestarspeeder

Agggggggh this hurts my sassonach ears what a load of "sceptic tank crap"

  • Comment removed

  • I'm an American of Scottish descent, have visited Scotland and have had haggis, (actually better than it sounds and looks) and I think this is the funniest skit Alton's done.

  • @lukestarspeeder Gosh, thanks for enlightening us dumbasses. And here I thought this was a historically accurate portrayal and not a FOOD SHOW PARODY. Where would we be without you to show us the light?

  • @elmegil hahaha!

  • This fails, at which point was it a joke?

  • wow he sounds swedish or german lol

  • Worst Scottish accent attempt EVER

  • xD I love how he refrences this part in the second oat episode.

  • you sound more like swedish

  • Patrick Belden is a musical genius. The man has done more variations on the Good Eats theme than I can count, but doing it with bagpipes takes the cake...or maybe the haggis.

  • For the record:

Scottie was Canadian, Mike Meyers's mom was from England, and if no one can appreciate humour then you are in a sorry state and emotionally deprived.

  • FREEEEEEEEEEDOOOOM

  • lol sounds like arnouughhd sweazenneggarr

  • "don't be shy... DON'T BE SHY!"

  • Okay! Enough already! It's OK fo him to TRY and do a Scots accent ( I for one do not have a problem with that and it is quite flattering ), but where it falls down is that it is a lazy stereotyped immitation of a poor immitation of a terrible immitation of an attempt to do a Scots accent !!!

Scots don't mind the piss getting taken out of them ...in fact if done well we love it! ...Seriously!!! ( ...again re Mike Myers, Scotty and Simpsons Willie )

BTW ...Its not a kick at the Yanks.

  • You need to understand that most Scottish cuisine is "based on a dare". So learn to like the haggis -Or you will "feel the back of me hand!" -(Don't take everything in life or especially on TV so seriously folks)

  • I'm kind of curious to try haggis, and I'm assuming it's a little more civilized than this XD

    TOO MUCH ONIONS!!!

  • That cunt's attempt at a scottish accent is poor he sounds like arnold Schwarzenegger

  • @MiKJnr 99% of the world population sucks at impersonating any accent other than their own. I can't even do a Texas accent without sounding fakey. Just accept it as a joke and move on with your life :P

Y'all come back now, ya hear?

  • @brendonian i can do alot of accents :)

  • @brendonian I'm Texan and I can't even do a good Texan accent lol.

  • @brendonian I'm Texan and I can't even do a good Texan accent. lol

  • You tube is great, people get all bent out of shape over jokes.

  • Everyone that comments about racism on a food skit is a fucking idiot your fucking idiots!!!!!

  • who is he arnold swarzenegger?

  • Schwarzenegger.

  • I hate onions though

  • This stuff is surprisingly good.

  • Which planet exactly do you live on where no one is allowed to make fun of Americans?

  • earth.

  • @creasicle yeah, no one, ESPECIALLY shows on the BBC, make fun of FAT Americans (sorry to say 'fat'...of course that never comes up over there)!

    Chill!

  • At least we know that stereotypes are stereotypes, they're a bit of fun. My scottish friend has lived in America and constantly got asked questions like "why aren't you wearing a kilt" and "do you have internet/television/shopping malls/civilised society in scotland".

Scottish people do not live in mud huts like Mel Gibson in Braveheart.

  • @creasicle sure, your opinion: Brits -> make fun of american stereotypes = fun. Others -> make fun of Britsh Isle stereotypes = insulting. I call that being a hypocrite.

    Everyone stereotypes. Don't fool yourself.

  • No shitface, listen to what I'm saying. We are well aware that not all americans are obese/stupid because we have access to american tv and culture, we also know more about you politics and history than you do about us but this is another issue.

Americans don't understand that their stereotyping of other nationalities isn't a reflection of reality. My friend left america with a really poor opinion of your people because of the ignorant comments he was constantly subjected to. FACT.

  • wow, you are such a nice guy...It is interesting you complain about people being rude, or ignorant, yet you have to resort to profanity to make your point.

also interesting that you can't conclude that the clip is a parody, most likely of an American movie, or at a minimum is a paraody of a culture at a point way in the past. I am sure no one in your culture (ahem, Monty Python) has done anything like that.

  • there is no evidence to suggest that. It is making fun of scottish people for eating haggis and the apparent barbarism of doing such a thing.

  • @creasicle A shame I missed this 9 months ago. It's amazing that lower on you claim this is just your opinion, yet here you state your complaint as if it's an objective fact. You're welcome to be offended if you like; those of us who find it funny mostly object to your insistence that the offense is intended, or that we or AB don't realize that real Scots aren't like that.

My heritage is German mostly, should I be taking offense at Mel Brook's ludicrous characterizations of "my people"?

  • @creasicle -umm yes they do -stop lying-We as Americans have that "superpower" to know when you are.lol cmon -get real-Most americans would probably LOVE living in Scotland right now

  • Seriously....it's a food network spoof!!! What the F#@K does that have to do with your hatred of America or Bush??? I bet your the life of any party you go to!!!

  • Yes because this is what I talk about exclusively at parties.

  • @creasicle ....and who said no one ever made fun of Americans? It's just comedy. We make fun of ourselves all the time, but it's only when another nation is made fun of that the other side pipes up about it. Don't get me wrong though; Alton did a horrible Scotish impression. He should of taken the safe route and went with a Sean Connery dub.

  • @creasicle Look up satire. this video is a friggin joke. I'm sorry if you have no sense of humor, but don't go ripping apart a country based on sweeping generalizations, just because you found a skit on a cooking show offensive. Grow up a bit.

  • @meph1975 As I've already said. I'm not suggesting that comedy shouldn't involve parody but this is just a strange man kind of taking the piss out of Scottish heritage. Furthermore just because I don't appreciate this apparently hilarious piece of American banter does not mean I don't have a sense of humour, nobody doesn't have a sense of humour it just means I disagree with you something which is conversely not allowed here in a public domain in which people comment on videos.

  • @creasicle And the one where it's a fascist state and the people don't even know it.

  • The guy doesn't even sound Scottish.

  • If he blacked up with some boot polish and start saying things like Yassir Boss! many coloured would be on this like a rash saying it was stereotyping, crap, offensive, etc. and rightly so.

Well, being insulted by stereotyping is not the sole province of people of colour.

You want to know if this is stereotyping ( and very poor at that ), then ask a Scot.

  • Well Im a Scot and I can tell you this is crap, offensive, insulting, etc. and Im pretty sure most Scots seeing this drivel would feel the same.

And please dont accuse my or other Scots who would agree with me of lacking a sense of humour, Scots are more self deprecating than most and as I pointed out when someone hits the nail on the head with a Scots impersonation then I/we love it more than anyone!

That said this is just shit!

  • Fuck you trolls.

  • Americans supposed to be notorious for being horrible at imitating foreign accents?

...Must be so true 'cos I've never seen any doing good ones! ( ...God knows what other foriegners must think when the Yanks try and do their accents! )

The only exceptions being Mel Gibson in Braveheart ( ...but more Glasgow than Elderslie ) and Mike Myers ( Man! The guy has really nails it for me! )

Star Trek's Scotty & Simpsons Wullie are crap but great and still fun, dont know why but they are!

  • Mike Meyers is Canadian :-)

  • @elmegil

Yep! Already knew that OK! ...I'll correct that statement (.... that makes it even worse somehow )... I meant Mel Gibson ( born in US ) along with Star Trek's Scotty & Simpsons Wullie

  • Actually, James Doohan was Canadian too.

  • @elmegil mel gibson is australian

  • @bolch88bb8: work on attributions; iceguyred123 was the one commenting on Gibson....

  • It's intended to be a joke :) If Alton Brown spoke real Scots dialect most people would have no idea what he was saying.

  • "If Alton Brown spoke real Scots dialect most people would have no idea what he was saying"

Hmmm! ...So you don't understand Mel Gibson in Braveheart, Billy Connolly, Sean Connery, Mike Meyers when he done Fat Bastard in Austin Powers, Star Trek's Scotty or Simpsons Wullie?

You can only understand a Scottish accent if it isn't remotely in any way Scottish and doesn't even try to be???

  • @iceguyred123 I've heard some English / Irish people imitate a general American accent as they thought it sounded...they sounded like a California beach surfer from 15 years ago by the impression XD I thought it was funny how far off they were. By the way, 2 different people on 2 different occasions.

  • @iceguyred123 I think you're missing the point on this one! I went to the Good Eats Tenth Anniversary event, and Alton Brown was laughing about his horrible accent. It's not like he was trying to be convincing; it's supposed to be ridiculous!

  • Why is it so difficult for people to recognize "it's a joke" instead of analyzing this as if it's some historical and accent reference?

  • @elmegil I agree. I don't think many Americans believe they are doing a good accent when they're speaking. Its generally what people refer to as a parody. God knows you see a lot of foreign TV shows and such making all Americans out to sound like a bunch of red-neck hicks...and that can by funny

  • @elmegil well beaucase, only americaNS are smart enough to figure that out. everyone else thinks there so much smarter than us.

  • lets see, im scottish, and tht sounds like a really shitty irish accent to me, with many parts not even audiable.

  • He makes Scottish people look like Barbarians.. Is this really how they act? Is guessing no..

  • aieeh! my ears hurt!

  • TOO MANY ONIONS!

  • I've always had good tastin haggis. A local curmudgeon makes it and brings it to the yealy 'Burns Supper'. Good Stuff, be sure to have a few 'Wee Drams' in ye at all times!

  • To add to my previous comment, the ones who would say " oh God I'd never eat that " would buy their weiners ( hot dogs ) and bologna. Although the ingredients may be fresh in those products read the fucking list of ingredients ! I'm always very wary of meat products that state on the list of ingredients " MAY CONTAIN, also AND / OR " The list is long after listing the meats and by-products ( which could anything ) there is a list as long as Argyle St. of fucking chemicals,,,,eat on McDuff !

  • I've lost count of the amount of haggis I've made and sold in my shop ( in Canada ).

I loved some of the comments " oh God I'd never eat stuff like that " ( of course they have never tried it ). What did I use ? fresh liver and hearts, spanish onions, natural oatmeal, barley, suet and my own blend of fresh spices.

Mixed with the broth in which the meats were cooked, stuffed into a natural beef casing which is not eaten by the way. Into the big pot of water ( 180 degrees ) until they rise.

  • @jeanmunn Mmm, that sounds quite good :-)

  • He's American. We're notorious for being horrible at imitating foreign accents, so leave him alone. lol Great video! I was almost tempted to try haggis on my trip to Scotland, and I now regret not taking the offer! :) Well, there's always next time, if I feel brave enough...

  • I'm from Norway and even I can do a better Scottish accent than that.

  • why is everyone taking his accent so seriously. his show is comedy and the bad accent makes this skit. he says it was his assistant, and it was but it was his accent too.

dont be shy... DONT BE SHY! lol

  • haha alton subtle mockery of failed counting with his fingers... priceless.

i cant imagine watching this high, i think id die of laughter lol

  • My God I love Alton Brown.

  • Bad Austrian accent.

  • He's not trying to have an Austrian accent he is trying to sound scottish because he is making the scottish dish haggis

  • I know. It's such a horrible Scottish accent, it sounds Austrian, and it's bad even then.

  • its supposed to be scottish it just sounds like schwarzenegger sometimes anyway its the bad accent that made this scene

  • LOL!! Alton sounds more like a mixture between Adrian Paul and Arnold Swartzenager AT BEST! :o)

  • Yes indeed, Alton himself admits that it's more Aussie than Aberdeen.

  • Worst. Scottish accent. Ever.

Also, this isn't how you make haggis. You catch them in the forests. Oh how this man makes a mockery of you.

  • I love Alton Brown, but the man can't do a Scottish accent. I still busted up laughing. It was all in good natured fun. Hehe, he wasn't really telling you how to make it for real. It was more just being silly :P

  • I should say the entire script of the haggis scene, not the entire episode.

  • No, I pulled it from a TiVo'd copy of the Oat Cuisine episode. I have Alton's book about the first few seasons in front of me; it's episode 57, season 5, and he has the entire script as well as the following: "The haggis Paul and I prepared in full Braveheart regalia was in no way meant to be taken seriously. If any of you purchased sheep's stomachs with the express purpose of preparing this dish...sorry."

The book is "Good Eats: The Early Years" and goes through season 6. Good Reads :-)

  • Was this an outtake? Because I never saw this until tonight's 10 year anniversary and it is friggin hilarious!

  • What the hell kind of accent is that supposed to be? Czech? Icelandic? A Polish suburb of Halifax? 'Cause gawd knows it ain't Scottish!

  • Is that a wasp that pops onto the cutting board at 1:08 right after adding the suet and before stooofin the stumach and boiling it for 3 hours or 3 days but not a minute longer? MOTG's Duncan/Golly meets Arnold Schwartzenegger for a very funny, goofy mock of a Scottish accent. Rabbie Burns is laughing, I hope. Can't find a good haggis in Southern California. Love Alton.

  • According to AB's commentary on the 10th anniversary special they built the cooktop over a yellowjacket nest.

You can imagine what happened next!!!

  • Considering Haggis is a Scottish dish, there was probably some Scottish being spoken.

  • @CuratesEgg Alton Brown confirmed in a later show that they were hurrying to film this skit because the tray was right ontop of a yellow jacket's nest.

  • eeeeeeeeeew

  • "TOO MANY ONIONS!"

  • Good eats is amazing. It's time to STOOF THE STOOMACH. lmao

  • Epic lulz.

  • LMAO!

  • i would like 2 try haggis even tho its like sheep guts n stuff

  • haggis is really good

  • Yeah. None of us Americans think that this is actually what the Scottish act or talk like. It was a caricature...a joke. Even AB thought that line "or you'll get the back of me hand" was so ridiculous he had to do 3 takes of him saying it.

  • He sounds more like Arnold Swarzenegger.

  • rofl

  • Ya Weee Bassstard tis ne how the Scottish talk!

  • lie im scottish and we dont talk like that

  • Terrible accent! I think he switches back and forth between Scottish and surfer guy ("gnarly, dude!), LOL! I LOVE him!

  • Beulin waatr! Brilliant, I'm from Scotland and my stomach and 'bits' are cramping I'm laughin so much.

  • hoot mon, is that you takin' the piss ...

  • AB RULES! Scottish is a hard accent to do.

  • I'm scottish, and that is the worst scottish accent I have ever heard, he is clearly taking the piss.

  • I have never heard the expression "taking the piss" but I love it.

  • he totally butchers the Scottish accent but its so hilariously like AB who can complain? :D

  • Hey, I'm actually Scottish, and a very proud Scot at that and to be honest i actually found this funny..

Why can't anyone take a joke anymore?

  • ...Superiority complex. It runs rampant on this god forsaken site.

If you listen closely you can he switches between an English and Scottish accent somewhere near the end. I find him hilarious. I happen to give his accent an A++

  • @RearAccessDenied Though it does raise the question: Is this how haggis is actually made? (not chop for chop, considering I know quite a bit of it was in comedic taste)

  • Yes... his Scottish accent is terrible, but at least he tried.

  • Dude's attempt at a Scottish accent is simply dire. (And I'm half-Scottish myself!)

  • lol, this is one of the most memorable episodes of Good Eats to me.

"Don't be shy... DON'T BE SHY!!!" is still an inside joke in my family.

  • the accent makes me want to die...

  • He did every accent in the world except scottish.

  • Is this an animal? Wild haggis?

  • STOOF DE STOOMICK! There are accents that give me the giggles. Scottish (or rather the made-up kind) is one, German is another. I'm not intentionally mocking anybody but any speech pattern that either sounds like this or Angry Klingons is rife for parody. Of course, Alton here is doing a very awful fake Scottish Brogue and he looks like "'Braveheart' By Way Of 'Clan Of The Cave Bear'". OOGA BOOGA!

  • It tastes like a distinctive spicy sausage. Haggis is quite nice actually, i recommend everyone who is curious to try it.

And to everyone who is grossed out, grow up, and i hope you never look into how they make sausages (or weiners as i believe the americans call them)!

  • Dear me, I am an American, and I can tell you that I would rather eat haggis than a hot dog. At least I know what's in haggis.

  • well, good for you then sir! It's a fine food!

  • I, too, am from America, and have only been to Scotland once. Thankfully, I decided to try haggis while I was there. Oh was it tasty. One of the best meals I've ever had.

I even liked the neeps. And I can't stand turnips.

  • whats haggis taste like??

  • kind of like a peppery sausage. It's pretty tasty

  • The word wiener is derived from German and rarely used in "America" (not North, Central or South America). Parts of the U.S.A and South America were heavily populated by German immigrants in the 19th century . In the U.S.A, Oscar Mayer was one such German immigrant and he founded a meat company (he called his product "wieners"). Sausages are called sausages in the U.S.A. Sausages are known by other names throughout the Americas. If you want to "grow up" read about history & stop eating meat

  • Idiot!

  • what does this taste like? sheep meat smells like shit..

  • What a crazy dish. Guess It'll taste like sheep. Look very practically but seems some kind of stinky. Is that really that good?

  • why is he talking like a fucking idiot

  • Because he likes to troll morons who think he's serious.

  • And by 'he' you refer to yourself ?

  • hes talking like a scot u fruckin moroon

  • No he isnt I am scottish and I am telling you he is talking like a fucking idiot. He sounds nothing like a fucking scot.

  • Why are all Scots bitchy obnoxious queens when it comes to internet forums? You morons actually make Groundskeeper Willie look SUBTLE in comparison.

  • See what I mean? Go choke on a Petula Clark CD!

  • ....Aaaand?

  • He isn't Scottish you doat!

  • man, i really want to taste this!!!
