  • I applaud the news anchor and applaud Joe-Hannah!! Those are truly inspirational black women!!

  • awesome story!!

  • Good story

  • I'm so happy for Joe-Hannah & her daughter! Beautiful

Natural hair is the ish! Don't let people tell you otherwise. It's soo versatile!

  • I'm in awe about this coverage. I'm so happy to see positive coverage on natural hair. Makes me feel real good about being on this journey the last 6+ years.

  • Although I'm not against a perm, it's inspiring to see black Americans finally accept themselves as they are.

  • Im going natural ( i have been transitioning for 6 months) and I decided go natural because I am tired of getting chemical burns and damaging my hair.

  • This is AWESOME!!!! What city/state is this? I want to write to the Channel and give them KUDOS!!! BRAVO!

  • NATIONAL AFRO DAY July 4, 2012

    Appreciate!!!!!!! Celebrate!!!! Rock yo' Fro!!!!!

  • KUDOS TO YOU CHANNEL 5.... FOR PRESENTING THE MOST POSITIVE COVERAGE OF WOMAN OF COLOR EVER..... OPRAH ISN'T EVEN THAT BRAVE... KUDOS A HUNDRED FOLD..... THIS IS ON MY FACEBOOK PAGE....

  • they make it sound like other race women dont wear weeve/extentions

  • @Soniya4041 how many of them are wearing kinky or curly extensions? when other women wear EXTENSIONS they are actually EXTENSIONS...because they blend with their natural hair texture closer than that of a nappy headed black women wearing asian hair on her head...

  • @TikiTubeable Does the texture matter? They are still wearing weave; something people make it seem as if only black women wear.

  • @Soniya4041 they do but black women just use this manipulation for so they become the majority and others like white women asians etc that used extensions use it to blend with there real hair for length opposed to the fact that black women have a completely different texture than their weaves and relaxers and chemical straighteners

  • i don't think i'm being biased...but that little girl's mum looked so beautiful with natural hair!

  • DAMN IT FEELS GOOD TO SEE THE GODDESS BACK ON IT

  • Looks A THOUSAND times better. I never understood why black girls did this to their hair. They always look better with a natural cut.

  • Truthfully I don't see what the big deal is about using the so called "creamy crack". I use it occasionally to help keep my hair from coming out like it does in it's natural state. The trick I use is not to leave it on long where it becomes bone straight lol It has never burned me (except when I was a kid and when I got older and didn't know wth I was doing lol)or made my hair fall out that means u left it in TOO long or your hair just can't take a perm. I've had a few people recently try to co

  • @Egirl609 I have to agree w/u I fail to see how either being natural or having a relaxer makes 1feel more or less beautiful or albeit "Black" if you're that strong in who u are as a person hair shouldn't change u as an individual I dont care who dont like it I myself am a proud relaxed sista w/long,healthy hair&will continue to relax my hair b/c IT'S WHAT "I" LIKE I tried the natural thing it's just not for me&I shouldn't be made to feel bad b/c it's not if ppl wanna rock fros, braids, twists etc

  • @Egirl609 by all means they can do so but it's not fair to judge those of us who choose to relax our hair straight what makes us Black is our strength, wisdom&adversity NOT what's on our heads I've spent almost 2yrs growing my hair&I sure as hell aint gon cut if off should I have daughters I fully intend on keeping their hair natural but I will continue to relax my hair it's what works for me no tea,no shade lol

  • Mrs. Ritchie, do you realize what a major choice you have made? Your decision to "go natural" not only effects you but women everywhere! You have given strength and courage to women who are professionals in fields that are dominated by whites (like myself) and decide to go or stay natural. You have given more women, of all races the confidence to embrace the original beauty that they have been blessed with. I am so proud of you! You have used your position in the most positive way! Thanks!

  • Wow, this is an awesome story. What a way to empower your daughter. I finally decided to embrace my natural hair in November, and I love it. Also, I see more natural women featured in print advertisements and on TV.

  • Totally Excited About This!!!

  • I enjoyed this story. Back in the day black women wore the afro look. So people have no business complaining when sisters go natural. It's real and BEAUTIFUL, not to mention cheaper; most black women can go the the barber shop and NOT the beauty shop. This black man loves these natural women.

  • This is an awesome story! I love that they even took the time to share this...

  • I think its great for black women to embrace their natural beauty, hell we was born with it so I thank GOD for every feature he gave me.

  • only in the US, id love it if the bbc did reports like this lol

    (L)(L)

  • damn i cant go natural fuck that!!! flat irons and straightnnign creams are my life.

  • @MegaPeacelovelife you're sad.

  • @knobylob youre mama is.

  • THIS AINT NO NEW LOOK. THIS OUR HAIR. BEEN DOING THIS SINCE BEFORE ANYBODY ELSE ON THIS PLANET WAS AROUND. LOL

  • Girls go natural. All the way. Get rid of all the nasty chemicals.

  • Omg I cried 2! Lol. Takes a strong woman to embrace her natural beauty.

  • Great Report.... Thank You

  • I'm going natural without the big chop. I'll do that in like 2 years ha not ready for it

  • Black women are the most beautiful with all natural hair, whether lowcut, small fro, big fro, dreads etc.... them weaves & lace front wigs obscures the natural beauty/facial features of the beautiful black woman.

  • Comment removed

  • am I the only one that cried? because this defines my life lol

  • Oh my god T_T. I cried when I listened to the mother talking about the little girl growing insecure, because I remember too, being that little girl and seeing my mom and everyone with straight hair. And not just me, there's so many women and little girls who still possess these insecurities. But I say this: whether your black or white or whatever, LOVE your curlies and yourself. Been natural for 1 1/2 years, go strong no matter what :D

  • That one chick had an "Eddie Munster".

  • @1975pookie Shut the fuck up asshole.... They did the rite thing going natural, there's nothing wrong with it. Its healthier for their hair and saves them money, money they were spending on all those stupid hair products...

  • Black women are beautiful. They are more beautiful with their natural hair.

  • @blackbolt75 I agree... This was an awesome video.

  • I've been saying this stuff for years. When mothers start tryna get their hair relaxed, wigs, straightened and extended their daughters wonder if their own natural hair is something to be ashamed of. My own mother's Nigerian but when she came to the states started getting her hair permed. Girls be sicing girls for getting fake hair, it don't make sense to me.

  • Natural since January 2, 2011 and loving it! This is a great story and i'm glad this movement has been brought to media attention. Hopefully more women will be inspired to embrace their natural beauty! <3

  • OMG me too! I have tears in my eyes... Thanks for sharing this ;)

  • this video brought tears to my eyes

  • everybody look up redskitchensink!!!! theyre products are the best for natural styling and there customer service is the bomb....i am a living testament i had traction alopecia (bald spots) from wearing weaves and lace fronts and my hair has fully grown back after using their products. :)

  • @blk3454 i have tried their products too and they are very good

  • This vid. brought tears to my eyes I wish I could make all this go away. it makes me so, So sad. Black women need to realize that they are Fucking Adorable! and stop listing to society. often society is their worst enemy.

  • Awesome!!! I to decided 3 years ago to stop with the perms and extensions. After spending hundreds of dollars on all this stuff and losing my hair, I said forget it and am all natural now and I LOVE IT!!!

  • brought me to tears . . . i will soon be embarking on my journey, my mom is doing it with me. One of my friends has cancer and is going to start losing her hair soon, and we will lose ours too. #myblackisbeautiful

  • It's really sad that this even needs to be made a point of. Women, nay Americans, should be free to embrace their culture(s) without being ostracized. I think the sooner we being to appreciate what we can learn from our differences culturally, we will become stronger as a country. Rock on ladies and know you have the support of other women, even outside your race, who applaud the bravery and action to stand up and be who you are and express yourselves as you find fit. Kudos.

  • I went natural because, It is not a trend, or a new look. It is waking up from euro centric mind set. I am glad I made that decision. I threw that weave away and I have not look back sense. I will post a new video showing my natural self soon!

  • @lilcoco77007

That's a beautiful thing to hear. Hopefully more and more women will start waking up from the Matrix and start realizing that their hair doesn't have to look like Asians and Europeans for them to be beautiful.

  • WOW, I can't believe this made the news. Wow, amazing.

  • omg i teared up..im going natural too i believe that we should leave our hair how it comes out of our scap every other race does and i think that we should as well.!!

  • I Love this! this is not a trend or a fad. If other ethnicities can embrace their hair texture, I believe that we as darker skinned lovelies can do the same. this is not the 50s and we do not have to be bound to a jar of relaxer or thioglyocolate (the curl). I am truly excited as a Naturalista to radiate the natural side of me and know that I am taking healthier steps in hair care. it inspires me to continue this in all areas of my life

  • Wow! This brought tears to my eyes! Simply FANTASTIC! :O)

  • Awesome video!

  • You all comments are to long to read.

  • @Bigpimping808 A true sign of having a short attention span.

  • I love this special report, seeming as though people are looking at us naturals as if we have lost our minds for choosing to be less conformed with society. I am so proud as the people of the natural hair society continue to push forward with this beautiful hair movement! Now I know I am definitely not alone as I move into the 1 year anniversary of my b/c..Job well done beauties!

  • @sophiadaniel25 DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!...at the risk of sounding any more childish than I already have I'll stop but I must say I haven't regreted my decision I even joind a cute little group on face book when I need help, it's ridiculous how much I've learned....

  • you do not have to cut ur hair in order to go natural why do yal think that its alot of work to grow a perm out but u do not have to cut ur hair

  • @LadyNy217 eventually you'll have to cut off your permed ends, or they'll break off.

  • @Dillz4Realz Not necessarily I never cut my hair and I have been natural for years u just have to make sure that ur hair is well taken care of it was a very amazing reason why the mom in the video cut her hair so cudos we do what we have to for our kids the new way to the big chop is to let ur hair grow out as much as u can with the perm ends only on the bottom then cut them off so u will maintain length this was a beautiful story I loved it wish their was more mothers in the world like her

  • @LadyNy217 that's exactly what I said..the permed ends HAVE to come off no matter what.

  • @Dillz4Realz Ok

  • this almost brought tears to my eyes!! What a great Mom!!!

  • Beautiful! :)

  • I went natural almost 3 years ago because my hair was falling out in clumps. I always went to a salon for relaxers and still got burns and scabs. But I'm not mad because now I know it's so much better on the other side. My hair is longer and healthier than it's ever been and I love my curls. In my opinion chemically treating a child's hair under 10 yrs. should be a crime. And yes, my mama did it to me at 6. I used to cry and throw up. didn't matter.

  • for the 1st grader...when i was a child i was natural. my mother would have never sent me to school as that 1st grader was wearing her hair. my mother wore weaves, relaxed..every hair under the sun and i was never effected. NOW i use to hate the cornrolls because of the style chose to do but for the most part i wore 2 or 3 pony tails that were braided and oiled. her mother should have taken the time to comb the child head. oil it put some ponytails in..shes in the 1st grade!

  • damn how many times do she gotta say black... wtf we get the point.

  • Also I personally think black mothers shouldn't relax their daughter's hairs until they're old enough to understand the negative effects of relaxers. When they're young...yes they'll want that relaxed "pretty" look because that's how it would seem to them. Let them reach the age of 14 or 15 to decide on their own. By that time I'm assuming their natural hair will be extremely long and if they want straight hair just use pressing iron.

  • I don't think I'll ever go natural...at least not any time soon in my life. Not everyone looks good in natural hair. In my opinion people with heart shaped faces look really good in natural hair. Their upper forehead in size isn't too wide and I find natural hair to look good in them. I wouldn't mind going natural if I had 4a type of hair. My natural hair is the kinkiest of all. The one where it hurts like crazy to comb through. I give props to those who have gone natural and good luck!

  • @sweetbiella I have the kinkiest of hair also and it is rought to comb through, unless I have my good detangling brush and a good conditioner that allows me to comb or brush through it very easily. natural hair looks good on anyone as long as you take care of it and wear it in styles that look good on you! You have to won your hair and if you go in thinking that you won't look good, then you'll believe. speak positivity and you'll be fine. good luck to you.

  • I meant to say "own your hair"

  • That lady had pretty eyes! Were they green?

  • Great story.......Love the mother and daughter relationship being built. As for the reporter, her life her rules, you damn if you do, and damn if don't. We already know the Disparity that exits in television and Entertainment business concerning the people of color……… but I cannot believe all the anger, why can't people have a decent conversation without character assassination? Live and let live......Peace to the peaceable.

  • ALL TOGETHER LOVELY!

  • that was a great story. *sniffles* I'm happy to be a natural as well and it's so inspiring to see others take the plunge. At the end of the day this is all about self love regardless if you are natural or relaxed. As long as you love the hair coming out of your scalp that is all that matters. You do what you want to do with it from there.

  • me to i teared up also, hang in there sis.

  • Yeah, one battle at a time... one day it will be ok to talk naturally too! :)

  • does anyone hear how her accent is different from her "reporting voice"? at around 3:43 - 3:52 she sounded a lot more afro american. this is just like discreditable deviance. its funny how there are standards to how people speak in public. just like her hair, if she spoke the natural way while she was reporting, she probably wouldn't be able to "move up the tv ladder"

  • awwwwww (tear)! i feel so good that i went natural...i have been natural for 2 years now!

  • Im crying right now!

  • Love it! The story made me tear up. Beautiful women, beautiful hair.

  • did they seriously put this on the news lol

  • I wish more women could see this! All of the the things women especially black women buy to put in their hair are really bad and if we stop trying to make our hair INSTANTLY long and flowy and concentrate on growing our own hair more black women will have long hair. My hair stopped growing when I got relaxers but now im a year and 3 months transitioning and my hair is growing super fast!!

  • I can't believe it's been two years since I decided the expense, pain and nuisance of spending half a Saturday every month getting my hair relaxed was not worth it. I've been wearing my hair naturally ever since and it's amazing - no one cares. Although the big test was when I went for my internship interview. I was so afraid they wouldn't hire me because I didn't look "professional". I almost went and relaxed my hair but decided not to. I'm so glad I didn't. They want the real me not a fake me!

  • Thank you for this video!

  • Nothing profound to say about this! But I am very pleased with the way this story progressed! Thank you for putting yourself on the line.

  • GOOGLE Lauryn hill. that is beautiful, and screw what anyone says.

  • I love this story because 1: the rest of America doesn't "get it" so this helps them understand some black women's plight when it comes to hair and 2: children need to know that beauty comes in all forms. I teach and my kids I've known for the last 6 years of my teaching career still cannot understand why I cut my hair...they will still compliment my outfits but very few think my hair looks good (they don't voice this opinion but so much is evident in facial expressions). Let folks be great!!

  • I dore that you went natural. I plan to let go of weave this year. My last perm was July 2010, I'm on the authentic journey.

  • This is the best News story ever, I want to share it with everyone!!! Natural Hair Movement will sweep the Nation!!!!

  • I only wish that the news anchor wouldn't present this as a trend, because I honestly do believe that going natural is a movement.

  • @JustShanice He did say it was a trend but his co.worker sort of corrected him? I was saying to others there are easier ways to be trendy! lol...going natural isn't one of them.

  • @JustShanice It's been a movement since the sixties :)

  • I went natural almost 3 years ago and love it! I don't care what people have to say about it, actually some have said I look better and it suits me rather than my straight hair. I never received any negative feedback. Even though I don't have kids, I still think of myself as one even though I'm 26, children are very impressionable and they will definitely do what mom does (or not I guess lol). Anyway, I just wish more black women could get back to their roots. It's fantastic!

  • Natural hair does not equal self-love, self-respect, or self-esteem.

  • How black women wear their hair no more denotes self-hatred than when white women perm their hair (to make it curly) or tan for hours (at the risk of skin cancer) to become a few shades darker. I won't get into the collagen injections or butt implants. Asian women used to bind their feet (along with their daughters) and would develop lifelong deformities for the sake of having small feet because it was considered to be more attractive. You will find similar things amongst women of all cultures.

  • I love this! I am showing this to my 12 yr old. We are both 7 months in transition, but she does not like it. She thinks only straight hair is pretty hair. Even though she has seen the hairstyles I put my hair in (no heat, no chemicals, no chemical dyes). I told her before I watch her lose all her hair, I will take care if it myself, and when she is grown and on her own, it will be her own choice.

  • Very well done! I love this! Thanks for posting!

  • Thank you for this important!

  • Every person's hairstyle is their own choice, I have found Braids to be the best for me and my own hair grows as long as the extentions. I cannot take a perm and when my hair is pressed, it turns into an afro in a couple of Days! We should all Love what GOD gave to Us and live a life where you Love your Neighbor as much as you Love yourself in Jesus' name!

  • I am so proud of these ladies. I live in Germany and they are obsessed with hair. I have a Biracial child and they are fascinated by her hair. I think this is a great step forward to iron out all the ignorance in black and Biracial hair. Please comment on my page.

  • good to see this video is making a change to black women ,us black men have been saying exactly the same thing for the longest but when we said it we were called black women bashing ,good to see people now pay attention because its now news

  • @jrufus11...Where were all these self-righteous black men when black girls were being made fun of in school (elem, middle, high, college) for having nappy hair??? Where were all these brothers on here telling black women to embrace their natural hair when Martin Lawrence was calling Pam Beadybead and insulted her for having "kitchens" or that her hair was so nappy that Wilson couldn't pick it (Pickett)? How many times when growing up did black boys tell black girls that they NEEDED a perm?

  • @freetobemenoapology you are talking nonsense its not about being self- righteous its saying the same thing as these women on the news ,you are comparing kids to grown adults this is what grown black men are saying the same ones who were kids and watched our sisters sitting there while their hair was being plated sure no brothers were laughing then , your only problem is the black man always has to be wrong even if you agree with him

  • cute little girl

  • I think they are just beautiful. I have nappy hair and I just do a loose braid and use shea butter. I refuse to use the chemical treatments to my hair. Good for the ladies that go all natural. Blessings to them all.

  • Gorgeous, gorgeous gorgeous!

  • Love it!!!!!

  • We have to show our girls as well as tell them how beautiful their skin looks, how lovely are their big lips, and the hair is their crown honor it in its glory, and those many shades of skin how marverlous it is, and the eyes are just dreamy so many shapes, sizes, and colors, we are the rainbow, what a blessing.

  • I almost started to cry after viewing this video. Black women are beautiful in their natural state. We have allowed the media and society to somehow dictate how we view our own images. Going natural is truly a journey to self discovery that allows us to address our own insecurities directly.

Big ups to Rochelle for taking this step! I too became fed up and on 8/24/10 took a huge pair of scissors to my own head to remove all chemical traces.

Thanks goodness for all the women here on th

  • @ImmaculatelyPolished

Almost started cry? Honey I did!! Not over sadness, but true happiness. It was the best decision I made. And now my mom is joining me. <3

  • its just hair WTF big deal

  • 3:03 shocked me... not bad looking woman became a poo poo

  • I'm almost in tears because I am a 61 year old African American woman; a product of the 50's and 60's. In those days if you were dark and didn't have long flowing, straight hair, you were looked down upon. Permanent relaxers, weaves and wigs, have radically changed the richness of our hair. We are the only people on the planet with naturally curly hair and yet, we keep trying to make it do what it was not created to do. Black women, our natural hair is beautiful, not straight! Love it!

  • WOw... This story was soo touching.. brought tearsvto my *eyes

  • Wow! I am in tears!! I have to show this to my 11 yr old! man- I am SO proud of that newscaster! That was BRAVE! All right! And the mom too- what an inspiration!.I just went natural and will NEVER, EVER go back to relaxing! WE ARE BEAUTIFUL!

  • Love this!

  • Overall, this is a wonderful video and, I do uplift natural sistas!!

But, I've noticed something: many "naturals" use heat (blowout styles), gels/puddings/Miss Jessies and other things to make the air look less African, too.

Beautiful styles? Yes! But let's not deny it's all on a continuum!

My view: WW get tans, lip injections even butt implants bec they are influenced by our beauty and they are chill about it!

Maybe we could take a cue from them and chill, too.

    We need more love, sistas!

  • @RunnerJan Less African? How? African's have all different types of hair. And just because you use gel doesn't mean you are any less natural than someone who doesn't. It's just a style change. So you're saying that twist, braids, ponytails or any other style makes you look less African? I guess we should all just let our hair just tangle and matt. Never do anything to it. Because ALL manipulation changes the way hair looks. Even adding moisturizer to it changes the way it looks. Smh.

  • @ubergirliz1 I totally agree with you!!!

  • @ubergirliz1 COWARD!! YOU TYPE A BUNCH OF BS & MAKE YOUR CHANNEL UNAVAILABLE so you feel you can run your ignorant mouth! You are a JOKE! Do you really know how STUPID you sound?? There is A DOCUMENTED HISTORY of people who CLASSIFY THEMSELVES AS WHITE COMMITTING ACTS OF TERRORISM, GENOCIDE, SLAVERY, RAPE & ABUSE of my people. because they are NOT white.. therefore THOSE PEOPLE ARE MY ENEMIES.. but you are bit too dense to comprehend that aren't you? UR IGNANT.

  • @EbonyNewsChannel Lmao. I made my channel unavailable way before I even watched these videos. But yep, keep being a hateful person. God will judge you. :) Have a good day. Btw. There are people in Africa committing the same acts on other Africans. Think about that sweetie.

  • @ubergirliz1 Blah blah, blahhh, blah.. not a logical, intelligent counter to anything that I have said yet.. more mindless, thoughtless, insignificant RHETORIC.. you really should take a critical thinking/logic class.. your responses are so 2nd grade. LOL.

  • @EbonyNewsChannel And you really "followed" me to this video from the other one....what an internet stalker...smh.

  • @ubergirliz1 NO dimwit.. no one followed you.. I am just smart enough to know how to use a computer. The stalker is actually YOU.. being that you WASTED so much energy jumping in a conversation that DIDN'T INVOLVE YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE.. Don't flatter yourself.. if I were going to STALK someone, it would be a good looking man, with a MODICUM of intelligence. You possess neither quality.

  • @EbonyNewsChannel You're so proud to be African, but are you over there helping the people on that continent? Yeah. You're proud to be African, but you have no idea what country you're even from. People are being killed in that country by other Africans, but I don't see you getting off of your fat ass to help anyone. Child please, you're just a hateful Afrocentric psycho maniac who spews bullshit on the internet trying to get people to agree with your cult like mindset. I'm proud to be human

  • @EbonyNewsChannel but you seem proud to be a hateful person. But hey, it ain't no skin off my teeth sweetie, because it's people like you who are bringing this world down. Have a good day. :)

  • I'm natural & proud! Currently rocking micro braids using my own APL hair! Seeing how far you've come after having damaged, broken, "relaxed" hair is a reward all it's own!

  • great story :) i'm very proud of her :)

  • Very good news story!!

  • Did the same thing for my beautiful daughter who is 3 years old and told meshe wanted to have beautiful hair like princesses on TV. I am 8 months natural hair andmy little girl is happy to say that her mommy has hair like hers :)

  • Beautiful

  • She looks so much better with her natural hair. I have a 7 month old daughter and she has a head full of curls and I want to set a good example for her and show her she is beautiful, so I am going natural, no more relaxers for me. This what our kids need to see especially our daughters, to be proud of the way God made and intended us to be. We need to be the realistic example to reverse the effect of the "European Beauty" is the only beauty mentality.

  • Great story!!!!! Having two daughters I can so relate to wanting to be an example to my girls by leading by example. Our girls need to learn to love themselves as they are from a young age. This is what prompted me to start my YouTube Channel encouraging and giving parents tips and tools on looking after their natural children. The response has been amazing, so I know I'm not alone in my thinking. This reporter did a great service by going through her big chop on air! Kudos to her!!! x

  • My hair's natural and in a big fro.. getting locs soon :]

  • relaxers can suck it. i love my hair!

  • This is soooo encouraging. Seeing the little girl had me in tears she is soooo preciuos. Big ups!!!!!!

  • I <3 this!

  • wow.. all of this infighting is stupid. get it together ladies.

  • Great video. Natural hair isn't a fad for most of us. There are those that can't deal with the pressure and judgement that comes from our community when it comes to our hair. So some do go back to the creamy crack. As for the money to care for my hair. Price isn't an issue. If I can spent thousands of dollars on cheap hair products that dry out my hair, weave, lace fronts, sew ins, relaxers, and braids then I can pay for quality products as long as it keeps my hair healthy.

  • So beautiful! I cried!! Well done!

  • Rochelle is a very pretty lady in any hair style! But she's certainly glowing with the natural style for sure.

  • Why are some of the comments becoming so negative and hate-filled. Whether you've been "natural" for 10 minutes or 10 years means nothing. The most important thing is how you feel in your heart and in your mind. People, we have to stop denigrating each other and calling each other names. Black women, stand up and be the leaders, spiritual and otherwise, that you incarnated on this earth to become. Yes, there is more going on than hair, but please, chill with the rudeness and anger.

  • @yogini34 Because this hair thing is huge. It is a very emotional issue for a lot of people. It was for me. Hair and what we do with it has always been a big indicator of class status. And for people to deliberately say, hey, I'm not going to change my hair or I'm going to keep it natural, for black women is a leap of faith. Unfortunately, a lot of people would rather us just "fit in" and not upset their groove, rather than for us to find or own way of being, living and doing our hair.

being natural has nothing to do with having short hair. the only shot naturals are newly naturals and after a fewmonths to a year their hair is usually right back where they started. most of the naturals i know have at minimum shoulder length. i myself am natural but my hair is armit length yea. i think havin short hair is alot dif from being natural.

its not even bm alot of men like longer hair. but everyone got they own thing. lol

same her mt father was the only one who FULLy supported me withoutt ANY negative comments. the irony is that hes white

  • I love that women of color are finally waking up and loving themselves as God the way God created them to be. What is sad is the number of women who think they 'own' natural hair and condemn people for seeing the light. One day soon, I hope they too will wake up and learn that SISTERHOOD contains the word SISTER. <3ing my naptural me
