I dont think the driver was going fast. Seemed like a normal speed to me and he was able to see the cyclist. He is a good driver. Cyclist in Singapore are bad... Don't get me wrong. Those with road bikes and suits are generally very safe riders, it is the FOREIGN TALENTS who cycle like shit. I swear if not for noticing them earlier I would have hit a few down already. Believe me, the road training makes me a demon on climbs and hard trails. Yes, roadies are geeks and it is hard to understand them without riding in that pack once in a while, but the fast ones can shred a mt. biker on climbs and fast flats. It's the secret to really fast mtb riding. We're all pedalin' 2 wheels!

I am a hard core cyclist, I ride 'guerrilla style' (like a bike messenger) very aggressively in dealing with cars.

This guy is a complete douche bag moron for trying that move. He obviously wasn't even looking when he rode into that situation and just pedaled his way sluggishly across the rode when he realized his error.

This guy is not a real cyclist, serious riders know better. First rule of bike club- all cars are trying to kill you. The sooner you realize that the longer you live.

He's not that much at fault. The only thing is that you ARE driving quite fast and knowingly that there's a crossing junction ahead and ASSUMED that every pedestrians and cyclist must stop at Red. You ought to slow down. Besides, pedestrians/cyclist can't really judge the speed of every incoming cars. example: now a driver is moving at 50kph, the very next second would increase speed upon seeing the road ahead is clear. So, dun 100% pin the blame on pedestrians/cyclist for the accident.

Notice teh taxi is increasing speed after the slip road @ 35kmh to abt 50kmh, and he applied the brakes at around 80%, judging from the amt of the dip and thus stopped abt 4m frm the point of applying the brakes. Can't lock the wheels at this rate. Normal bicycles avg speed on straight is abt 25~30kmh and starting off speed from 5~12kmh, and peds' walking speed is abt 5kmh. It could be the cyclist was already on the move and thus moving abt 20kmh.

Good point. In the US, the Cyclist wouldn't have much legal recourse if he got hit by the car in such a situation.

I think that this is more of a public awareness issue than a crime because of the fact that it's so dangerous for the cyclists to do this.

I'd say that the drivers should have legal recourse to sue someone should they disobey the rules of the road and damage their car.
