  • Eizeh yofi! Kol hakavod. (How lovely! Great going.)

  • psalm 137

  • מי יכול לבצע את הקטע המוזיקלי הזה באוניברסיטה הפתוחה?

  • I love this psalm so much, except for that last sentence. I completely understand why it's there--the psychological trauma of deportation and exile creates such feelings in people. It's just an impossible line for me to daven.

  • Which verse are you speaking of?

  • These guys are just amazingly fantastic. Ya'ashir kochachem l'shalom.

  • Beautifully done!

  • פשוט נהדר !!

  • מדהים, באמת יפה :)

  • Fabulous singing, a really focussed and rich sound. A great to hear some Rossi - thanks so much.

  • Delivered with fierceness, reverence, and sweetness. The Psalmist would love it.

    Just wow!

Thank you for presenting this to all of us.

  • KOL HA KAVOD! Was listening to this before I recited Birkat Ha Mazon today.

  • Pashut yafeife!

  • I own several CD's of Solomon Rossi's music

  • Stunning performance; I've played his settings of psalms 118 and 128 one viola (string sextet and trio).

  • I LOVE these guys!!!! Wonderful group - hope they come to Halifax some day :-+) (hint, hint.....)

  • I've heard something of Salamone Rossi very recently. But Who are those singers? The're great! Great preformance! Bravo!!!!

  • Gorgeous - it's great to find Rossi being sung in the original, and so professionally :-)

  • I sang with the U of Chicago Collegium Musicum under Howard Mayer Brown back in the 70s and have heard lots of early music groups. This is an outstanding performance - a real treat!

  • MUSICA INSOLITA E FENOMENALE

  • phenomenal!!!!! BRAVO

  • wow, so cool. Hebrew. But music sounds like its from Euope. And I thought only Christians sang like that. Pleaes educate me.

  • It is from Europe--Italy precisely. The composer was a contemporary of Monteverdi.

  • @mpalardy As far as I know Rossi even played in Monteverdi's orchestra.

  • Did they know each other?

  • the composer is Salamone Rossi. He was a Jew living in Italy during the Renaissance, and was therefore greatly influenced by the Church music of the time. This is why you might think that his Synagogue music sounds very Christian. I personally think that it is very beautiful, and works for any religion. If you want to see more, you can go to iTunes and type in Salamone Rossi for some other works. Many of them are in this style.

  • Also, I go to a Jewish Day School, and I am in the choir. We have sang Rossi's "Odecha" (Psalm 118) and we are currently working on this version. The music is so complicated, and I am very impressed by these 4 singers.

  • @ronpasa69 It's not Christian style but baroque. In renaissance-baroque eras both religious and secular music followed the same style. Although the diffused Jewish music is basically Eastern-European Ashkenazi music it reminds actualy very much of Russian, Polish or Gypsy styles. So Rossi's pieces are by no means less "Jewish" than the Ashkenazi music!

  • I like the music. What language is that?

  • Hebrew! one of the only Hebrew sources from the 17th century.

  • @elamrotem Yehudy Italkì, kol hakavod Qedushot Qehilot shel Italkim.

  • @ronpasa69 its hebrew. it is talking about long ago wen yerushalaim was taken from the jews

  • מאממים! ראיתי אתכם (טוב, חלק מכם) במחזה דניאל לפני כמה חודשים, היה מעולה. מתי אתם מופיעים?

  • מדהים.

  • Absolutely gorgeous piece and singing. Why have I never heard of you guys before? Phenomenal work.
