  • I just wanted to say, excellent work on all the bonus commentary you've written into the annotations. It's so nice to see someone put so much thought into their uploads! :D

  • I know it's Rob Brydon, but it really sounds like an American doing a Terry Wogan impression lol

  • I watched this video a while back and favouited it before. Now I'm here to watch the whole thing. I'm glad I left the annotations on since there are so many little interesting facts I would have missed_^) What Greek Mythology is the intro referencing? Troy? And 3 goddesses fighting over a Golden Apple right? This is gonna bug me all day!

  • Where can I download this game legally (Steam does not have it) and does it work on Windows 7? I have PSone version but I'd really like to play this on pc.

  • Meant to add thanks

  • How I loved this game! Hilarious! Now I can relive what I can't play anymore :( Brilliant music as well, particularly Saturnalia

  • Jesus Christ. Talk about irritating unnecessary unfunny annotations. Next time put all that bullshit in the description. Or leave it out entirely.

  • I can't believe I've found this. I love Discworld Noir and haven't played it for years. Watching this brings back some great memories.

  • Such a sweet fucking game!!!

  • i had this game but never completed it. just bought it from ebay now. the classics can never be beat

  • the graphics still look great..

  • Lewton was voiced by Rob Brydon? i would never have guessed that.

  • @RiFFxxx I'm here because of our dear Brydon, and I must say, over-dramatic and lovely as always! :P

  • Discworld Noir is better than Discworld I, which is WAY MUCH better than Discworld II. FACT.

  • Super looking game! I'm sure I'll love the playthrough! To think I was going to look at Discworld II (the game)... *shakes head*

  • try this site for running this game on windows 7 hope it helps you out.

    scummvm.org/

  • it's also Ps1! lol (is it the Terry Pratchett discworld?)

  • Agreed. I played it on ps1. Amazing game. This and first two Broken swords are best p&c adventure games.

  • @croHDgaming

Ahh but you forget Monkey Island, The Dig, Day of the Tentacle and Full Throttle

  • No Rincewind? I am le sad face.

  • Okay, I'm going to have to keep going with this; it's been a long time since a game made me giggle just by the witty Repartee. Or however it's spelt. Could be repartea, that way there's time for a sit down for a cup of it.

Thanks for the vid; great fun so far!

ps. Did you enter the IDD by any chance?

  • I have this game but it wont work on my computer >_< and i thought there was a lycan in it

  • @wolfheart4000 If it's Vista or XP that's the problem, check the video description. Windows 7, I'm afraid you're on your own!

There is indeed a lycan in it, I can guarantee that. Hope you can get it working.

  • @wolfheart4000 try this site out for running this game...hope it helps

    .scummvm.org/

  • One of historys most underrated game. And considering how brilliantly funny the other Discworld games were aswell, i cant understand why someone doesnt make more of these?

Seriously, the dudes who did the Monkey Island tales last year should dwell into this!

  • Why does he do the Thriller head jerk when he walks?

  • Brydon??? Oh wow I never knew that. Brilliant!

  • good to see this is still alive and kicking

  • Ah, I remember playing this game years ago and I tried to get it to work again a while back but was halted by one of the bugs and never got to continue. Thankfully I found this as I was reminiscing today! Is the playthrough finished?

  • @Mashirafen It is! Enjoy.

  • Thanks for doing this, especially since I never heard of Discworld: Noir, which is a shame since I'm a huge Discworld and Pratchett fan and have all the books in the main series and also have three of the other Discworld adventure games Colour of magic text adventure for the C64, and Discworld and Discworld 2: missing presumed?/ Mortality Bytes. But now thanks to your vid I had learned of this great game and now just got it off Amazon for a decent price too(10.99).

  • @Evilmonkey66699 Glad to oblige! Hope you enjoy the game as much as I do, it has its flaws but it's charming and explores a different aspect of the Discworld you don't usually read about, which is pretty cool.

  • It might be just the literature geek in me, but when he lies there without his hat, he looks a lot like Sherlock Holmes... I am fairly certain that i saw a Holmes picture once that was compareable...

anyway: I was cureing my flue this week and I used the time to look through all of your DN clips... they are absolutely amazing. Pitty that I never had a chance to play this. But the Soundtrack is downright amazing, as are the lines. And as are you for spending all that time on this. Thanks a lot.

  • @Crowfield85 Not a problem, this was a joy to produce and annotate. Glad you enjoyed it!

I always thought that Lewton had Humphrey Bogart's hairline, myself. Each to their own!

  • "women and seame-.." lulz

reminds me of the seaman prank on what was it, southpark?

BTW, hell of a game, there is so much humor in it, lots of golden lines, I might say it tops every Pratchett book. Maybe due to taking reference to a lot of them. Thoroughly enjoyed playing it, and again watching it. Thanks for your efforts mate!

BTW, who wrote the mono- and dialogs, the man himself?

  • @me1ne The pen extraordinaire only wrote a bit of it, but he had a say on the story as a whole.

  • @me1ne No problem, and FeedsNoSliesMusic is spot-on.

Saying that, a lot of the explanatory dialogue is lifted from the Discworld Companion, so I suppose Pratychett and Stephen Briggs *technically* wrote a lot of it.

  • i love this game...atm i am searching some download since is like 10 years when i played it last time....hope i will run it on Win 7

  • on deviantart I posted a bit of a started discworld noir comic I did about a year ago.

Youtube doesn't allow me to post a link, so try searching 'discworld noir' on the site, if you want to read it.

Hope you like it and I still enjoy watching bits of this walkthrough every now and then :)

  • @Zkytanni Apologies for my late reply, I got your message on DA but your message here didn't get to my inbox! Also I'm employed full time now, so I don't have as much internet time as I used to (I've got 600 messages on DeviantArt right now).

I liked your comic, it was a good start. Keep up the artistic aspirations, and thanks for sharing!

  • I love this game - and that's only watching it :D Do you know anywhere where I can get the music?

Thanks for doing this, I would never have know about it otherwise!

  • I remember that the voice of Carlotte was also the Amazonian in DW1.

  • Do you know how to get it to work on XP? Do you use the same method in your description? I really miss this game.

  • *squeels with delight* This was one of my- no- my FAVORET GAME! But I never got past the barrel bit where you had to empty out the wine. For some reason he just wouldn't do anything-

But then my brother gamr the game away and I was so upset. Now I've found this years lateer! I offically love you X3 *sits down and watches it all*

  • @UnnyGorey I'm glad you'll be able to find out what happens next! Please do enjoy. :D

  • I'd just like to say that the sheer time and effort you must have put into this is astounding, and I for one greatly appreciate it.

The pop-up trivia was a nice touch as well. Absolutely fantastic work that not enough people have thanked you for.

  • @LsTrOfSmG Well thank you, I've actually received a great deal of thanks from people like yourself and it is very much appreciated!

I'm still putting time into it - I'm slowly producing subtitle files to upload to YouTube for each video, I usually get one or two done per week. It's nice as it means that the hearing-impaired won't miss out and the subtitles on YT look really professional too.

    Thanks again!

  • Wow! Awesome job! One of my favorite games ever! Any possibility that i can find somewhere the captions, so that i can burn it with subtitles?

  • @pipipapiu I'm not quite sure what you mean - do you mean a version of this play-through with in-game captions, or would you like a copy of the caption files I've been slowly producing and uploading to accompany the vids? I'd be happy to send you copies of the .sbv files.

  • I tried to play this when it first came out but it wouldn't run on my comp...

  • @St4rdog It probably still won't run on your computer - it's a bit fussy when being played on anything newer than XP (but it's still possible to play it on modern operating systems nonetheless!).

  • Ahhh, nice one. I played this game several times, but the last time ist a bit longer ago. And it is very nice to have someone explaining some backgrounds and references. I'm an Discordian for years now, but for the Noir part I'm lacking some intels, so thanks for that.

Btw., the annotations are a nice kind of doing this, especially because the game is very verbose itself.

Who knows, next time I think about LPing it myself. ENG with GER subs and annotations (again, thanks for that idea).

  • @FreebirthOne Thank you kindly, I thoroughly enjoyed bringing DWN to YouTube and I'm glad that so many people, like yourself, have apparently enjoyed my videos.

Let me know if you start LPing it, I'll be an avid viewer. ;)

  • Woah, I never knew they made this :O

I played one and two..but not this.

  • @PatrickBooya In that case I'm glad to have been able to enlighten you!

  • Thanks so much for putting this up - I *love* Discworld Noir but my discs have gone walkabout so I can't play it right now...

  • @FuTeffla No worries! Glad to oblige.

  • I already love the Discworld series (well, the two books I've read anyway) and the noir genre. I meant to find this game someday and play it, but that story about Errata has made me want the game RIGHT NOW. Being a Discordian myself, that parody on the myth of the Golden Apple of Eris was the last proof I needed that I will love this game.

  • @truehare Glad to hear it! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!

  • 2nd time to watch this film.. erm, game, from same uploader. Forgot to mention, I enjoy playing D&D since I was a kid. Now I'm into White Wolf's.

  • love the discworld games but does anyone know if theres going to be anymore?

  • @zZHighTimeZz Haven't heard any news on that front, the only active game I know of is "Discworld MUD", and that seems well too deep and advanced for my liking. It's a sort of text-based RPG online (Google it).

  • Thanks, i will have a look.

  • God. What a game this was. Good job on LP'ing this!

  • @dash1141 Thank you! Although having watched several really good lp's recently, I'm not sure if it's fair to class this as the same. Maybe I should refer to this as a "Let's Annotate"!

  • @TheRussianGestapo From now on I start calling you "L.A. Lewton"^^

  • @FreebirthOne Haha! I see what you did there. ;)

  • Its one of my fav games of all time !!! amazing in every way ! I hope someone do another game with Lewton in future ....

  • @Qratz69 I'm conflicted on the subject of further Lewton adventures. On the one hand, I adore the character and would like to see more, but on the other hand I think this adventure is really definitive - it wraps up nicely and leaves on a high note.

  • True , but at least it can be another noir theme game , and Lewton can make cameo appearance . Anyway I am realy glad that someone posted videos of the game, thank you very much mate ! I downloaded it yesterday and now i am playing it for a 4th time after some years , and it feels even better :)

  • @Qratz69 I wouldn't say no to that. :D

Glad you enjoyed my vids and are still enjoying the game! Thanks for commenting.

  • Hello again, I was just wondering if you ever played The Curse Of Monkey Island and or Broken Sword I and II. If so I would love to se a playthrough of those games :D

  • Hello there!

Broken Sword I and II are some of my favourite adventure games! Funny you should mention it as quite recently a family member picked up the Broken Sword trilogy for me in a compilation pack that actually works properly on Windows XP. If I can't get Grim Fandango to work properly with my recording software, chances are I'll do Broken Sword instead. ;)

I played the first Monkey Island, but haven't yet played the others. Hilarious stuff, though.

  • That is good to hear. absolutely fantastic games.

Oh really? You should definitely try out the curse of monkey island. It is as you say hilarious stuff ;D

  • @veggen123 I borrowed the trilogy off of a friend, and completed most of the first one, never really got around to the second one and couldn't get the third one to work properly at all even with compatability settings turned on, which is a damned shame as the third one looked really funny. It just refused to work on my PC though, which is unusual (and I tried all my usual tricks as well!).

  • For me it was kind of opposite, I never really tried the first and second games. The third however has been completed several times up over the years. Now however I too cannot make it work, which is a damned shame because frankly it is truly an amazing game :)

  • OMG awesome;D This is one of my favorite games of all time. I just love it. Funny thing is I had not heard of Discworld before I randomly bought this game because it was a adventure point and click game. Always been a fan of the genre. And I must say, money well spent!

Thank you very much for this, I am going to visit regularly to hear some of Lewton's awesome jokes ;D

  • This game was basically my proper introduction to Discworld too. And film noir, as well!

I hope you do, and thank you!

  • Good to see this is still up and running. I might just re-play it with some nice incense smoking in the background... :)

  • I must say thanks again for the information about running this on Vista, I dare say that it's helped many of the people who have seen this video.

Mmm. I suppose you could say that you're incensed to play! As in the double meaning of something being scented and the adulation of something. God I have way too much time on my hands. XD

  • This has been one of my favourite games ever! Thanaks for uploading, you gave me the opportunity to show it to friends! Cheers!

  • @sunlioness1 No worries! Glad to be of service!

  • i friend of mine gave doscworld noir in usb and there are 3 cd files each one i have has a ccd file that my computer cant read so i can install the game (i own winows vista ) anyone knows anything about ccd file reader or any solution at my problem

  • This game, including the hero in the game, is one of a kind video game (or film coz for me it looks more like I'm watching a film with this) I've seen and I hope there's more to come.

The elements, excluding the game over stuff of course, specially the graphics were so unique I've never seen anything like this.

Sir and Madame Pratchett, my hats off you.

And thumbs up for you Sean.

  • @tyhrblade Cheers for your private message, your comments are most appreciated!

  • The best discworld game, and one of the best adventure games, hard to choose between this and grim fandango.

I got this when it first came out on the playstation didn't enjoy it so much, when i replayed it a couple of years ago, and after seeing the films it takes influence from, really makes it an amusing experience.

  • @eggman6 I dare say that the preference between Grim Fandango and DWN generally comes down to whichever someone plays first. For me DWN comes out on top - I love GF, but it lacks a certain something.

I must admit that I am still yet to see quite a few of the films and stories this game references, but I do look forward to them!

    Thanks for commenting!

  • Lawton is Rob Brydon! I KID YOU NOT!

  • I know, you really wouldn't think it unless you listened carefully!

  • oh man, these videos are awesome, my disks are too scratched to play anymore, i love this game

  • Why thank you kindly! I'm guessing that the disks are scratched from overuse? ;)

  • Have you seen the "Cowboy Bebop" series? It got me into anime, before that I thought they where all just about underaged schoolgirls with high pitched voices and pink hair ;) Though I still hate those kind of animes, I have realised that some of them are true art.

  • It was the jazz that made me think of it, you might like that show. But you should watch the series from the beginning, and wait before you watch the movie.

  • With Cowboy Bebop I would recomend the English dubb over the original, at least the first time you watch through it, It's done with real care and makes it easier to connect with the story and caracters.

  • OMG....

Because of your videos I try to get it from eba.y now... xD

Had this great game once(actually never played it through.. *shame*), but my cd's are way too scratched now...

    Thanks for uploading this...

  • I'm hope you enjoy it! And thanks for commenting!

  • I have finished it there is only three days, I'm so happy ! Excellent game ...

  • It really is a good game! Thanks for commenting!

  • I love this game

  • Me too!

  • Man i really loved what you did by posting that game on youtube. That's hands down my favorite classic adventure game, based on my favorite movie genre.Full stars just because you give a damn.

  • Thank you kindly! It's my pleasure to upload these videos.

  • dude thanks so much for this -- i lost the game ages ago and it's nice to see it again :)

  • My pleasure!

  • I had this on the PS1 years ago. I loved this game but preferred the 2D graphics of the previous discworlds. But i guess this was more or less an entirely different game.

Anyway I didn't realise that was Rob Brydon! Thanks!

  • The first time I played this was on a cousin's computer, but my first actual playthrough was on the PS1 port, which was admittedly slightly less buggy than the PC version.

I think this was indeed created by a different staff of developers, although there are a few links to those who created the previous two games (mostly just the voice actors).

I couldn't believe it was Rob Brydon myself, but it is indeed him!

    Thanks for commenting!

  • I finally figured out how to play Discworld Noir on Vista. This game is awesome. You really should try to read the books. "It's an Elfish thing." "Wellthankyouverymuch.."

  • Does it take much to make it run on Vista? If it's a simple method could you please note me on details so I can put it in the description of this first video? (Otherwise I'll keep getting people asking me how to get it to run on Vista and I can't help as I'm running XP)

I've read most of the books, Soul Music is indeed particularly memorable; the animated feature version was quite good too.

"A coach with liver on the side."

    "Livery."

    "That too."

    ...are you Elvish? ;)

  • Hi,

    Sorry for my late response, but this is how you do it;

Quote "Using REGEDT32, locate the Discworld Noir registry key at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Perfect Entertainment\Discworld Noir". Under it there should be a value called "Start Windowed", which is set to "No" by default. Change it to "Yes".

  • part 2 of quote:

Now, when you start up the game it runs in a window and looks like crap (because it's expecting 16-bit color mode). Press Alt-Enter to change into full-screen mode. THEN THE GAME LOOKS FINE, AND IT NO LONGER CRASHES!!!"

  • Thanks ever so much, added your quote to the description and an annotation at the beginning of the video letting people know. Will probably do the same for videos 2.01 and 3.01 when I get five minutes. ;)

    Cheers!

  • I am glad to help. Nobody should miss this game. I can safely say this is one of the best adventure games out there. And I am a big Lucas(film)Arts fan.

Just one thing; You still need to load your savegames with F1 from the main screen. The "resume game" option will not work as far as I remember.

  • You know I found that alt-tabbing out and then back into the game got rid of the visible cursor for me.

  • It's funny, the normal mouse cursor isn't visible when I play but gets captured on my videos, probably due to the recording program I use. I might have to try that alt-tab thing. Thank you!

  • Haha, Game Over. I like that gag.^^

  • Thanks kindly, I try to insert humour whenever I can. Kind of hard to do in a game this funny!

    Thanks for commenting!

  • Although I have this game (and have just completed it for the billionth time) the annotations really make this worth watching.

Especially since, shockingly enough, I haven't read a single Discworld novel (although currently I am reading Thud!, which is pretty good), so i do like all the references to the books that i might've missed whilst playing the game (though i didn't miss the reference to Genesis of the Daleks, lol).

So please, continue the playthrough if you can!

  • Thanks tremendously for the compliment, I was beginning to wonder whether or not it was worth doing the annotations - if at least one person enjoys them then the answer for me is yes.

I myself am guilty of not reading all the books, although I have read about half of them. DWN really does set you up to read the Watch novels, which are my favourite series of all the Discworld books (especially "Thud!" and "Night Watch").

If you see an error in my annotations, do feel free to correct me. Enjoy!

  • Carlotta looks so much hotter in the manual. Really great dialouge in this game.

  • I forgot all about the manual! I might have to do a video all about that once the playthrough is over. Maybe. Since I remembered that there's a copy of it on disc 1!

I'm not sure about the looks though, with that huge flat fringe Carlotta looks pretty bad in the manual, but then so does Lewton with his (granite) chiselled looks. Each to their own!

I love the dialogue in this game. In fact there's rarely a week in which I don't quote this game.

    Thanks for commenting!

  • I have this game and am an avid Terry Pratchett fan. My comp unfortunately can't run it, doesn't stop me from trying though.

    good job

  • If you're running XP, try setting the compatability mode settings to those in the description for this vid. I've tried running the game at all the other settings (95, 98, etc.) and it seems I've fond the combination that doesn't make it crash so much! (It still occasionally crashes on me, even now)

If you're trying to run it on Vista, then I wish you good luck and Godspeed! Let me know how it turns out.

    Thanks for commenting!

  • Love the game. Have it myself, but having it on Youtube in HD-quality and without the compatibility hassle would be great! Keep it up and you're gonna make loads of people happy.

    ...

    Or at least one :)

  • Well that makes this all the worthwhile then!

There's also an acquaintance of mine on DeviantArt who said that I'm doing them a favour with this playthrough too, since the game is apparently really hard to get in the States.

Look for updates every seven days or so, and I aim to please! Thanks for commenting.
