To find a good pole length, bend your arms at a 90 degree angle relaxed at your sides. The poles that just touch the ground at that height should be the best of the poles you have.

@MikeMikeBMX how are you gonna ski backwards with poles that long. Poles are pointless anyways Mins are like three feet long and what do you need them for anyways...nothing. Definatly dont wanna be spinning through the air with huge daggers.

Using a pole plant is a really good idea because it helps you to remain balanced and to turn more quickly. Also it helps you to stay forward when you ski, which puts you in more control of what you do.

He showed how not to do it so that you knew why to hold it the other way. Otherwise you might think it didn't really matter either way.

ok, why show how not to hold it? just stick with how to! also he should have stuck with the using poles for balance. that's much more useful for learners at this stage, but unfortunately he hasn't shown you that. as for the pole plant, shame he didn't actually say why we do that eh, oh well.
