  • I was besotted with all 3 games but this one the most. I think you have to be a little ocd or something to get into them, as it's all just about memorizing your reactions, I mainly played because I loved the animation so much. I was such a gork. I got a lot of attention when I'd swoop into a random arcade, play one of these, win it with 50 cents and then leave--they didn't know it cost (my parents) about a thousand dollars to learn them, ha ha ha. Thanks for posting!

  • @HalfBlindGamer I think having the rooms broken up as they are in Lair helps me prepare, the length of the sequences in Ace is what gives me a tough time. Even the final battle in Dragons Lair is shorter than most Space Ace sequences. :-)

  • Man, this almost gave me a seizure watching it. I've been a fan of Bluth laser games since I was a kid but I never did get anywhere with this one, unlike Dragons Lair.

  • @majikmonkee Funny, I'm pretty much the other way around, the first Dragon's Lair gives me a hard time. It always manages to throw a couple of rooms in a playthrough I'm no good at!

  • all the don bluth games were practically impossible in the arcade unless you pumped in huge coinage, noone I knew had enough money to master it and then memorise a sequence of bizzare directional choices and firing, the game felt terrible in the arcade, looked way ahead of its time but played like a pig, dvd would be a good format to learn it in.

  • Don Bluth is a great animator.

  • @sFT3wINm09

Don Bluth is the best animator

  • Interesting how this route compares with the other one, Seb! Still a pretty weird game all the same. :S

And even more cheat codes present within your commentary! :P

I guess this game might be a bit fun on the first playthrough but there's pretty much no replay value here. :(

  • Seeing Ace take on Dexter's Dark Side was a pure joy, as was listening to him chat Kimberly up while riding the motorcycle.

  • @djerwulfe As someone who never played these games back in the arcades, I found Dragon's Lair II to be a much better game. Most of the prompts are clearly visible and the game usually gives you enough time to react to them, although there's still a bit of memorization involved (mostly due to the blistering pace and chaotic visuals). I actually thought it was really fun; in a brutal, old-school Nintendo sorta way.

  • Awesome job man.

  • @KCtheOrchestrata Thanks :)

  • what button did he say he pressed when the robot was aiming his light at him? down?

  • I love Don Bluth he's such an amazing animator

  • @CrimsonNineTail Indeed, amazing animation work from him and his studio!

  • That Damsel reminds me of ariel.

  • Sony can jog on 8 quid for a game that came out more or less 25 years ago

  • @oORedeemerOo And people buy it too, it's a mad mad world!

  • 7:17 she has no panties

  • @33leel33 Perverted Animator :) Gotta love that sweet Ass <3

  • [continued...] so even before i looked up a video to check and see if i was right i was so sure of it i downloaded it right then. i looked up a video after that and i already remembered basically how the first level was because this game sticks with you if you've played it when you were younger. you just didn't get the game because it was so hard. i remembered it right away, and i was playing opeth's blackwater park and it was coming up to the soft part at 2:41 and it fit the game perfectly.

  • i'm freaking out because i've been trying to find this game for about 7 years going on 8 trying to remember the name. and i'm sitting here baked out of my mind so i downloaded an emulator so i can play FUCK WHO KNOWS WHAT anything so i started downloading roms and shit and i was scrolling down the list and then it was like BOOM SPACE ACE and i don't know why but it just stuck out at me like that. it was just BOOM SPACE ACE... and it just clicked in my head. i said "...THAT'S THE GAME.!!."

  • Everyone's a fucking ANgry Video Game Nerd. But there will be only ONE.

  • Is it harder or easier than Dragon Lair?

  • @TheWCWite Much easier, since it's the same path every game (although some sections can be mirrored). In Dragon's Lair the sequence is random for the most part, which makes it a bit harder to remember the different rooms. Also, Space Ace does a much better job of hinting on what direction to go to next.

  • @HalfBlindGamer After watching the video it seem like Space Ace is much faster but maybe because u sped it up a few times lol? It just came out on PSN, was thinking of buying it!

  • @TheWCWite The Space Ace scenes do move at a faster pace I think, now that you mention it. Which does make it more exiting then Dragon's Lair. Since all the sequences stay in the same order, it is very easy to memorize the whole game though. After finishing a scene you already know what will come up. In Dragon's Lair you'll need to recognize and remember the scene after it started. The final scene in Dragon's Lair with Singe is also much harder and longer then the final scene in Space Ace.

  • @TheWCWite

on space ace level was harder since some of the screens had picky timing and i had trouble getting the moves down sometimes

  • 5:42

Ahh. What 90's Don Bluth work would be complete without a Big Lipped Alligator Moment?

  • I really enjoyed your walkthrough. I rented this one for the sega cd for a day, got to the end but could not finish it before returning. I noticed a few things on your game that were not on mine so that was a bonus.Keep up the good work dude.

  • @rainydaymoon Thanks a lot! Shame you never got to finish it before returning, especially when so close to the end. I have never played the Sega CD version, didn't know they actually cut some scenes from it. This version also has some very slight alterations/omissions. I suppose the game was to big to handle back then.

  • uuummm.... This is 80's? During when the NES was at it's peak?

  • @Aussieroth7 Space Ace itself came out in arcade in 1984, so before the NES. Most faithful home ports came past the NES days though, with the introduction of CD based games.

  • Great gaming! Enjoyed the video and your commentary.

  • @NickyGloves Thanks, glad you enjoyed it :)

  • This game brings back my childhood memories from when my dad used to play all the time! thanks for uploading!!

  • You're not playing, it's just footage or watch mode. There's no beep sound :P

  • @5kogur The CD-i version has no beep sound, for some reason they took it out of the game. I may be terrible at games, but even I wouldn't manage to die during watch mode...

  • Dutch =)?

  • @franky993 Very much so ;)

  • god tier skillz bro

  • @narutofan78215 LOL thanks, it's not that great though once you got things memorized a bit.

  • what makes you think anyone wants to listen to your asinine commentary. This game was immensely entertaining and you babbling over it has ruined the video. You sound like Goldmember of Austin powers 2.

So, I have a Dutch accent!

  • @chiendeguerre if you like commentaries why would search for a let´s play?

  • @Lookin4aBoxToLive *don't

  • This game is mostly based on timing, so if you can get into an almost Zen like mindset, you can play it well.

  • @crispycritterz True, although the CD-i version is MUCH easier then the original arcade version when it comes to the timing. There's no penalty for hitting the button to early.

  • Lmao don bluth dragon lair cartoon arcade

  • oh man, my cousin and I used to play this as little kids, desperately trying to get past the first 2 levels xD

  • This game looks like its an old Disney film from like the 80s or something

  • @reniel611 Well, Don Bluth, the guy behind the game, used to be a animator at Disney. So it's no surprise you see the connection :)

  • @HalfBlindGamer Tnxs I didn't know that

  • OMG

I played this game before when I was a kid, but I died before I can finished it which sucks.

  • @katyasha29 It's a very hard game to get down for sure. This is also a really easy version of the game compared to some of the other versions out there.

  • I know you were saying shoot, when sped up, it does sound like you're saying sh*t. Maybe it's just me and my dirty mind, but that's what I think.

  • wish my game still worked, I loved this as a kid

  • this is like a cartoon and game wow i seen this before too

  • While Dexter is trying to get a date out of that girl, you have to keep his ass from being handed to him by the bad guys. That's kinda messed up.

Good playing man. Like I said in the last video, this game is intense if you are watching someone play it.

  • @TKGB2006 Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it. A shame I messed up a couple of times there, kind of ruined the flow ;)

  • You sound like a nasally GPS! LMao.

  • this game is f-ed up

  • Great upload!!!

  • lol tickle plants

  • I noticed that some of the scenes in this route are mirrored... I wonder why?

  • The scenes can be randomly mirrored on both routes, except for the first and the last ones.

  • ace sounds like he's dying most of the time

  • Sweet game,i remeber i play in this on Panasonic Real-))))

  • Nicely done!

I was able to get to the second to last level

and then the game crasht,.. my disk is scratched :(

  • Wow that'd suck. All that effort for no conclusion, ouch!

  • You my friend are a God died a few times so maybe just a DemiGod but I bow to your might. These kind of "games" I could never get far at all in.

    Aberran

  • LOL thanks a lot man, really appreciate your comment :)

It wasn't that hard though really, but it does take some memorization.

  • Well I am more of the SHMUPS AND BEATEMUPS AND Fighter games which are all basically designed to make Meth and Caffeine Addicts feel like they can be accomplished at something. I being the latter (not the prior at all lol) appreciate the sentiment. But for some reason I also like Strategy games mostly RTS; which are a lot different ... but yeah the memorization games I was never good at couldn't get into such a stringent rhythm, just never felt right.

  • That's pretty cool, I also love shooters and beat 'm ups, I'm more of an all round gamer I guess lol. I'm great at nothing, but can enjoy a lot of different genres, although it differst at times a bit. In general I'm most fond of a good adventure/rpg though.

These games do take some patience to get through though, and I pretty much played it so much for the review that I might as well do these haha. Otherwise I never really play these...

  • Criminey that's amazing. How long did it take to get that good?

  • Not to long really, but it does take some memorization so you know what's about to come up. If the rooms come in a random order (like in Dragon's Lair) I have a much tougher time.

It also greatly helps that there is a cheat menu in this version which let's you play any level you want. So you don't have to play through the whole game again to practice just one level untill you know it.

  • Great job.

  • Great video as usual. Now can we get you to do some of the shit live action ones that came out for cd-i? other than burn:cycle :P

Give you a lot more time to rag on the game.

  • Thanks man, glad you liked it!

I'll have to think about doing thos live action ones lol. I'm not to experienced with most of them, so they'll probably contain a lot of death lol.

  • Excellent work sir.

Kimmy really energizes my space ace! Argh! Argh! Argh!

  • Haha, the ultimate prize for the quest of manhood!

Thanks man! Glad you liked it.

  • This is great, I missed your commentary my friend. Someday when I get that converter I'll have to give this one a try but you know I'll be using this vid as a tutorial haha. Great seeing vids like this again. Thanks for everything as well, Im doing a lot better.

  • Great to hear you're doing better my friend, and thanks for stopping by and commenting :)

If you ever get it to work, be prepared for some frustratiions haha. Even with the solution it'll still take a while to get it done right.

  • Well........ now you can do one of Dragon's Lair. Haha.

  • Hah! I wish, that game is beyond my skills I'm afraid! Or more like beyond my patience to learn it inside out.

  • good job. I do not have the memorization skills to may this game.

  • Playing this game must be ultimately frustrating.

  • It is, sometimes it's not to clear what you have to do and it takes like 3 or 4 tries before you get past a certain move. There are no continue points so playing it the legit way that means that you have to go through the entire thing till that point, just to lose again!

Luckily the CD-i has a level select so that practicing tough spots gets a bit easier.

  • a demanding red head that always gets in trouble? lol big surprise :D

  • Wow, I've always known of the game but never saw it.. Just like Drangonslair and Segas Time traveler (and gawd knows how many Sega CD games) its not very playable - but those graphics were ll worth it back in the day.. Drangonslair came out in the 80's! Imagine that compared to your Vic 20!

  • Yeah, indeed. 1983! This game shortly followed it afterwards. It looked amazing back then in the arcaded. Just as long as you were watching someone else play it was an awesome game lol.

  • his gun flashes i think thats how he knows when to shoot

  • Right on! That's how you tell when you should shoot.

  • play it like hell then you know when to shoot : )

  • That too unfortunatly haha. I spend way to much time on this game...

  • someone needs to play the weird games to

  • how do you know when to shoot there is no little sign that show that you have to

  • His gun flashes, sometimes it's really hard to spot though. The situation overall gives an idea too that it might help to shoot stuff. In this game most of the moves make sense in their context.
